It's just that the more I find out about the promo, the less appealing it becomes. First of all, I have to put in twice the hours of the Horseshoe promo, and still lose less than I might gain. I can only gain $170 now, bringing my maximum loss rate at the tables to $5.66 an hour just to break even. At 1/3 that's basically one hand. OTOH I ran like death at Horseshoe, maybe Pala

Yes but the main difference is that Horseshoe only pays 36 spots while at Venetian you are guaranteed at least $170. And 30 hours to qualify should be fairly easy

Slight bump. One month to go!

Venetian just contacted me with an offer for 3 nights for $0 including resort fees + a bunch of free play so I’ll do something I haven’t before: while staying at Nomad I’ll go over April 2nd and check in just for the comps. Not entirely sure I’ll even use the room, depends on if I want to play poker at Venetian later or not.

BTDT pretty much every time go to VEGAS wife. Usually will stack them like you often do. But once we had 4 rooms for the same night. Normally at least make sure we go to the room once just so there is a record the card key was used.

Yeah I’m actually considering maybe staying there one night for Thursday, that way I can play at the V Thursday/Friday. But not sure yet, it’s so far away

We would do more of that and wife sometimes does but I have SEVERE sleep apnea so I sleep where my CPAP is or I don’t sleep.

Ouch, no wonder they love you.

A friend of mine won $2500 in a slot machine there, and they sent him free rooms, comps, etc for years after. So you can win if you want, and still get comped.

Pretty sure MuckPls wasn't trying to lose on purpose πŸ˜€

Maybe I should try some coin-in at Venetian myself; would be an awesome place to stay since I enjoy playing poker there.

I believe they still have poker rates. Back ~20 years ago, when every Vegas hotel was doing well and weekend rates were always > $300 at decent hotels, I always stayed at Venetian or Wynn or Bellagio because their poker rates were better than Paris rates, for example. They only required 5 or 6 hours of play per day.

Without bothering to research this subject, I think poker rates are mostly a thing of the past. And I personally wouldn't want to commit to playing at a single property for 6 hours every day.

Edit, asked ChatGPT and seems Venetian still offer it, but that you typically need to call ahead or book with the poker room/rewards desk and confirm the promotion.

I think both Wynn and Venetian still offer it

So does Aria and Bellagio but the rates are incredibly expensive. Sure it’s still a bit cheaper than going with no offers but still expensive.

https://aria.mgmresorts.com/en/casino/po...

They used to have the rates visible a few years back, now it’s contact only

I used the Wynn poker rate last fall. It's fantastic - a single entry to a daily tournament satisfies the play requirement. They have 2 dailies, a $200 and a $160. I think by the time I paid the resort fee, the room ended up being around $200 for the night. They also comped the parking fee. It's kinda sad to be so happy to park my car for free, though.

Irrelevant to this discussion, but I have to take the opportunity to brag a little, since those opportunities are so rare. Ended up cashing for $395, for $195 profit. I may never play another Wynn tourney, retiring as a lifetime winner.

Iirc it’s $129 and $179 for weekends?

I think 149 and 199, of course before tax and room fee. I used the Wynn a couple years ago. don’t think they diligently track your hours. You reserve thru poker room and my stay, don’t think I can close to 6 hours per day. Checkout was fine.

This! I would never consider a poker rate. The flexibility to play anywhere or not at all is my choice. The rates are barely better anyway and if you shop around likely worse.

Most places only have an option of cash game hours, either 5 or 6 hours. The Wynn allows you to play a tournament instead, if you want. If you wanted to play a tournament anyway, then it's a great deal. The last time I think I saved about $150 on my room. It's a good tourney too, a lot like the Aria dailies, and we had over 90 entries iirc, pretty good for a random weekday. Plus, I saved $25 for parking too.

All-time baseball great Ted Williams hit a dramatic home run in his last at bat ever. That's the way to go out. I'm in favor of you never again playing a Wynn tourney and going out on top.

I used to do the comp stacking every time I could.

Once (out of 20+ times) I didn't even visit the room at Ceasars, and they charged me like ~$200 or something. This is 10ish years ago, and I have no recollection of any details, but just a FYI, make sure you muss up the bed at least to be safe.

Yup I’ll likely stay the first night and play most of Thursday/Friday at the Venetian.

Slight derail from Vegas, but this should be a cool event here in Malta in late September. So if anyone here feels like ring-hunting.. πŸ˜€

That would be awesome! I quickly started planning, but quickly realized that's my Paris conference :( Can't complain about Paris, but Malta for poker would have been amazing!

I'm guessing it would cost a small fortune to stay in a hotel.

Whale, being that Malta is in the Med, are you going to have any travel issues?
