So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

BC just went to permanent daylight savings time. March 8th is last time we'll need to change clocks.

Guess this isn't a LOL, it's great news.

Well this does not apply to Kimberley,Cranbrook,Invermere and Fernie and surrounding towns

I never understood when I moved here why these communities were still on MST

Love watching the news were they say that with the rise of gas prices because of the war it will impact the cost of everything including groceries yet adding .17 cents to the price of gas by a carbon tax has little to no effect

but rebate! that i never used because im lazy. no one talks about that the majority wont bother

As if Canadian grocers need more excuses to **** us in the ass with food prices.

LOL. Who are we kidding. Canada has let its military degrade to the point it has absolutely nothing to add. There is nothing they could do to help, so no one is even asking. Most of the Arab gulf countries have military capabilities that far surpass Canadas anyways.

I guess Canada's strategy is to do nothing, and then if it looks like Trump is going to win (whatever winning even means) they can jump in at the last second to be on the winning side. And if not, will just completely nap it out.

Good and may they continue to do nothing. **** the US, **** Trump and **** Netanyahu.

Fair enough. I also definitely think all military contracts with Canada should be cancelled. Let theme buy Grippens.

Given Carneys pivot towards CCP, incorporating Canada in western military architecture would be a giant security risk and liability anyways.

You'll never have an ally like Canada ever again. You're both too stupid and too stubborn to admit that.

You keep alienating your allies and fighting Bibi's wars. Lets see how far you'll get.

As for the CCP pivot. You've been laughed at before and you're being laughed at again. You don't get to lecture anyone on dealings with China when your own government is balls deep in China.

So respectfully, and again, **** off to the Israel thread or something.

Starting in the 1970s the US made significant economic trade agreements with China, and now the 2 economies are inexorably intertwined. And it is very much a 2 way street. Decoupling would probably actually hurt China more than the US. So despite the rhetoric, I dont expect much to happen on the decoupling front in the near future.

But despite this, they have made it clear they view themselves as a political adversary of the US; and Carney under Canada is doing the same. Which is fine.

But given Canada's current neglect in military affairs, and shifting political allegiances, it makes little sense for them to be buying American hardware moving forward. For what? They are close enough geographically to the US they aren't every going to be attacked anyways (unless it is by the US, in which case why would we supply them hardware to use against us) and it doesn't seem like the US and Canada are likely to be on the same side in conflicts anywhere else moving forward.

1. The explanation is irrelevant. You don't get to lecture anyone on dealing with China when you're American. How do you not understand this?
2. US is the aggressor to Canada. Not the other way around. You want to blame Carney? Blame Trump first.
3. Is there a point you're trying to make?

It has never made sense to spend as much as we did on US military equipment but unfortunately our closest ally is a bloodthirsty warmonger and we had no other option but to keep our ally happy. That is no longer necessary as our ally has told us many times in the last year, they don't need us. Funnily enough, you seem to agree.

and it doesn't seem like they are likely to be on the same side as the US in conflicts anywhere else moving forward.

Maybe don't talk **** about the country that has a long history of aiding the U.S. during disasters. Dunno, just an idea.

I understand Canada has a proud military history. They even once had a domestic MIC. But they decided to scrap it and devote those resources to social welfare. And now they have a very expensive social welfare system and little military capabilities or hardware. And the US and Canada are diverging geopolitically.

It is what it is.

LMAO kelhus for the unbridled conspiracy theories again.

Like Carney makes a super limited micro deal on canola/seafood for evs, Kelhus suddenly manages to conclude that this makes Canada a giant security risk on military architecture?

Utterly deranged and disconnected from basic reality.

Just look at the F35 Harper agrees to buy them even though over priced and plagued with issues, Trudeau campaigns on scrapping them which was smart, Oh than Justin gets wire transfer to Cayman island bank account and voila Trudeau approves buying them again even though over priced and plagued with problems . Now we may buy them we may not but more of them

Seems we all agree Canada should just go with the Grippens.

I think this is the only way these deranged Americans can cope. No idea how else they can justify alienating their closest ally while maintaining the stance it's all Canada's fault.

This is phase 2 of FAFO for Trump. Canada was entirely content with spending tens of billions of dollars on US equipment, then someone said we're not needed and now Canada is shifting away from the US.

Dunyain may offer you a million reasons as to why it's our fault, realistically he's either too stupid or too brainwashed to admit his pedo in command is the reason the entire world is pivoting away from the US.

We all agree moving forward we(and the rest of the world) should be less reliable on the US yes. Why have a strong relationship with a country that's as corrupt as the US?

Of all the reasons to pivot to the CCP instead of the US, trustworthiness and corruption is not one of them.

Unless you want to argue at least with the CCP you know the relationship is purely transactional and you can trust they will stab you in the back when it becomes convenient to do so.

Try reading between the lines instead of letting your brain run wild and make up all this garbage nobody said. But, now that we are speaking trustworthiness and corruption, USA should be in the same bucket as China, especially this administration.

They should stop buying from the USa and look to Europe and South Korea

so this makes more sense for Canada to not buy your stuff then for you to not sell your stuff. Since you make money from selling it and we do nothing and don't need it. I think we can agree on this one.

are you seriously suggesting the united states gains nothing from selling things to make money? do you know how commerce works. and then we use that to fight your wars. its a win win for you. We just waste money and you spend less money

Few small changes and Danielle Smith goes from a 8 billion $ deficit to a surplus. What a great leader .

MAJORITY.

With a 4th floor crossing to the liberals, they only need to pick up the two safe seats in upcoming byelections. If they win the quebec coinflip election (i'm guessing no) then they get a bit of margin. But for now, majority. Of course the polls last two weeks have been fantastic for Carney, so it's not like the cons would want an election any time soon anyways. What an unprecedented political moment we are in.

I'm just happy with a majority and no future election

The Quebec byelection is just a crazy story and tells us how one vote can make a difference

The highlighted was what used to happen. I dont think it is going to be happening at all going forward. Canadian and American interests have diverged to the point I cant think of any scenario where Canada will be fighting with the US in any future wars. More likely they would be on opposite sides.

A lot of them aren't even really allies, but there are plenty of other countries which would use military hardware in ways that align with US interests (such as all the Arab Gulf nations which are forced to out of geopolitical necessity). I think the US MIC has enough demand, it doesn't need to supply nations that will never use the hardware.

And Canada can use the saved money to expand social welfare.

So win win for Canada and US MIC to decouple.
