Depends on how old you are. In 1985 41 years ago was 1944. I considered that old because it was before my time. Still do. 1985? Not old. I was 31 and iived it, So I think he answer is relative to how old you are. If it was old when you were born its old. If you lived through it? Not so much.

This comes up every once in a while when people talk about Back to the Future, when in 1985, he went back to 1955 - "way way in the past, a different generation". A 2026 Marty McFly would be going back to 1996, which feels to us old people like yesterday but to a kid born in the early 2000s is referred to as "the late 1900s".
I’m 60. 1996 seems kinda goofy lol to me still, but 1985 seems old to me, and a different planet to me.
