USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
You guys watch too many movies; nukes are just really big bombs. Tel Aviv has roughly 4 million people. Even ideally detonated over the city and with no warning, maybe 5–10% of Tel Aviv’s population would be killed. With a few minutes warning, that drops to around 1–2%, with a few thousand more dying from injuries and radiation, or < 0.5% of Israel’s to
10% would be about 450,000 deaths. And I believe a lot more than 'a few thousand' would die from radiation and other injuries.
Although technically true, this is more than a little misleading. The yield of the most power nuclear weapon currently in the U.S. arsenal is 1200 kilotons. The yield of the most powerful nuclear bomb ever detonated in a test is 50,000 kilotons. For comparison, the yield of the largest conventional bombs is 0.011 kilotons.
Probably as we speak, Bibi wants to drop a nuke and Trump is fighting him because he wants to be the next guy that goes down in history dropping a nuke. John21 and Doylefan will argue it was a mistake and they meant to drop rice cakes.

I think you’re confusing what might come back at them with what Iran could realistically develop.
The megaton numbers you’re citing come from extremely advanced thermonuclear weapons built by the US after decades of development. A first bomb from a new nuclear state like Iran would almost certainly be a simple fission device in the tens-of-kilotons range eg, Nagasaki level, not Cold War megaton weapons like in the movies.

No I'm not.
The Tsar Bomba device (50,000 kilotons) isn't particularly modern. It was tested more than 60 years ago. Let's assume that any weapon in the possession of a country like Iran would be a fission bomb that was more in the range of 50-100 kilotons. That's 4,500-9,000 times more kilotons than the largest conventional bombs.
Saying that nuclear weapons are just big bombs is like saying broadswords are just big thumbtacks.

The first thermonuclear device, Mike I, tested by the US in the Marshall Islands on 1 November 1952, yielded 10.4 megatons.
The Iranians are cosy-cosy with the Russians, who could certainly tell them how to make a thermonuclear fusion bomb once they were capable of manufacturing the fission 'trigger'.
North Korea only has nukes because a Pakistani scientist told them how to do it.

Fair point on my βreally big bombβ wording. But the comparison youβre making is still off.
A first-generation fission weapon would likely be in the 20β50k range based on what I've read. Large conventional bombs are on the order of 10β20 tons. So the realistic comparison is something like 1k-3k x.

Sure. But that would take more than an hour:
To your point though, that's basically why I don't think they should even be allowed to have one because that will lead to more and more advancement. And since their nuke program is effectively wiped out, might as well keep it that way. They can get fuel rods for power plants from Westinghouse.

The highest yield of any conventional bomb ever dropped is11 tons.
You should stop moving the goalposts. Especially if you're going to keep missing. First they were a literal threat to the US developing nukes and chanting death to America, then president monkey bragged those capabilities were destroyed but now Iran is again developing nukes and they intend to use them to blow up half the worlds oil supply?
things get rebuilt my dude its a game of whack a terrorist! I dont think iran is close to a bomb but I would like to keep it that way. we bomb in a fun game of whackamole to stop them! also why would i believe trump
I dont know if they have them or not. but if they wanted to nuke Israel then they would have gotten them already.
incorrect they would have been bombed earlier! The one thing you can't **** on isreal for is their intelligence gathering. just look at irans lack of leadership. during both wars there 1st and second in command has been killed like 7 times. imagine the us was at war and vance and trump were killed 7 times. That would be sick . I think we know what iran is up too based on are ability to locate their leaders

the amount of devastation is kind of unimportant. its the amount of leverage it provides. Once you have the ability to kill 100k+ people no one can literally appose you because the cost would be too high. people would not be able to go against that. I dont think iran would acually asap use the bomb. history has shown the nuclear bomb is best sued as leverage. and once that happens iran takes over the middle east and half the worlds energy reserves because we are too cowardly to take 100k+ in deaths. no democracy would go against them because no government could get elected willing to go against a nuclear power.
Interesting to note the difference between trump and Kamila getting elected was entirely based on people who served in the military voting for him. So when you consider that its not actually that surprising he became a war monger

Reminds me of the "Covid is just the flu" trope.

You mean the same folks who convinced the U.S. about Sadam Hussein's WMD's? Those folks?
Okay but this isn't a hill I'm interested in dying on. My point is that whatever they could have come up with isn't going to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth or anything remotely close. And they know what's coming back.
Then look at Palestine. It seemed to me they were trying to draw Iran into a war, and Iran pretty much sat it out. Why? What more incentive would they need to engage, if their religous ideology is driving their decisions, as opposed to serving and maintaining the regime's survival.
The U.S. has intercepted encrypted communications believed to have originated in Iran that may serve as "an operational trigger" for "sleeper assets" outside the country, according to a federal government alert sent to law enforcement agencies.
seems legit
The U.S. has intercepted encrypted communications...
"Don't do a Hamas!"
Who thinks a false flag before elections is coming?
can i bet on that somewhere? literally free money
