USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
Tel Aviv in the middle of a drone attack is probably as safe as most big cities in America.
If true itβs not great evidence that Iran is an existential threat against Israel. But of course Iranβs leverage is not how much they can hurt Israel but how much they can hurt the global economy and frustrate Americaβs allies and sphere of influence in the region.
I guess weβve moved on from the βweβre going to blast them to the stone ageβ Euphoria and into the βI think it will be a moderate geostrategic triumphβ cope.
The army of goblins that endorse the ever changing narrative is going nowhere it seems.
They really are willing to sink with the ship, even when the captain has long been gone.
You can hear them arguing it's a strategy (the ever changing narrative), it's a war of course there gonna be casualties, etc...
There is absolutely nothing that will change their mind.
At this point Trump shooting someone on 5th avenue would be pretty low in the rankings.
Will Trump eventually need to go to Congress to ask for additional money to continue to fund the operation?
This is gonna end up a win/win situation for both sides. The US and Israel will neutralize the Iranian threat which will be a win for them. The Islamists will keep their regime. Basically they win because they didnβt lose. This is similar to Hamas even though they got wrecked. The only losers will be the Iranian people because Iran is gonna turn nasty internally. This is unle
Agree with this as basically the regime will blame the protestors in January that began Trump considering intervening militarily.

So in essence Israel and the US will have made the life of Iranian people worse not better.
Boy I wonder why some of us are against US intervention.
Also news of defections among the IRGC, internally and externally. Although who knows if it is anywhere near a threshold to make a difference.
It's significant:
2026 defection and desertion of Iranian security forces

But as you said who knows if it's enough to reach critical mass. Then again it's probably the best shot they're going to get.
regime change thru vibes
I suspect that the political incompetence is worse than what Chris Murphy describes. I'm almost certain that Trump's original goals were quite a bit wider than 4 and that the administration is now just pretending like 4 was the goal all along because 4 is what now seems realistically achievable.
Luckbox,
I like you, but I am being deadly serious. Why do you even live in the US? You obviously hate this country, everything it stands for, and will gladly side with theocratic maniacs who vow "Death to America." You obviously have no problem traveling and living abroad, so it is not like you have a problem of inertia most people do.
Why do you even live here?
I'll be leaving at some point this year probably within the next few months. I've talked to a Colombian immigration lawyer and he doesn't think there should be a problem with me getting a 5 year visa and I would already have been gone as soon as I quit my job in California if not for the fact that I have a dog which complicates things-- but I've been enjoying myself in Colorado.
But the US is where the money is, and my friends and family. Yes it's the great Satan and it sucks when people are like "you should tell them that you're Canadian or Brazilian because they hate Americans", as if I can help where I'm from.

Fair enough. Although I understand Columbia is going through a economic leftist phase, which probably means things aren't going to be great economically for the near future. As that is how these things tend to work.
If true it’s not great evidence that Iran is an existential threat against Israel. But of course Iran’s leverage is not how much they can hurt Israel but how much they can hurt the global economy and frustrate America’s allies and sphere of influence in the region.
It is not that Iran is an existential threat at any given moment. The point is that the IRGC's entire reason for existing is to destroy Israel. And have been working towards that end to the best of their abilities for 47 years*. And Israel doesn't just want to exist surrounded by Iranian controlled Arab paramilitaries constantly threatening and attacking it. No one would. Even if they can survive like this in the short term because of their military strength and alliance with the US (who the IRGC is also dedicated to destroying)
Israel's belligerence towards the IRGC is completely rationale and defensible. The IRGC is the problem here. If they left Isael alone, this would disappear immediately. Which is why Israel is trying so hard to free the Iranian people from these maniac psychopaths, as it would be beneficial for them and the Iranian people.
I would say the real moral failure is not Israel's stance, but the rest of the world allowing this unacceptable behavior by the IRGC. If the IRGC wanted to just be North Korea and terrorize its own people, it would suck and be a tragedy but the world could live like that. But the IRGC isn't satisfied with this, because of their end time theocratic doctrines. They are actively terrorizing the entire region for supernatural reasons, which is not acceptable.
*As an aside, they have been working towards destroying the US too. But other than maiming and killing our troops in Iraq, and attacking us diplomatically, they have not had any capabilities to do this. So it is something we have the luxury of ignoring.

The Colombian peso is stronger than it was when I was there last. As a foreigner who has their money in USD you want it weak because the exchange rates are better and the dollar goes further...just not so weak that it causes economic collapse.

Well, Trump has tanked the dollar, so that is probably part of it. Exchange rates are relative.
My understanding is Columbia's economic fortunes are pretty tied to its trade relations with the US. Which are fairly strong right now. Although the leftist President could do a lot of damage if he keeps on like he is.

There wont be endless war because the IRGC can't survive like this indefinitely, especially because they have no support of the people, nor will the world accept the ongoing economic contraction. It is just a race to see who blinks first.

You sure that's what is happening? Or is this just another fantasy of yours?

Clearly you have learned exactly nothing from the other wars you said the same about. Literally nothing.
I will say If Iran fails to secure control of their airspace, it will be very interesting moving forward during the next round of street protests if street protestors can coordinate with the IDF to drone strike Basij security forces. Although Iran is a big country, and Israel is far away. So will be some limits how effective this can be.
