No asterisks. 83 is a real number. I don't care how it was done because the result stays the same.

David Robinson did exactly this to win the scoring title once. 71 was a huge number back then and he was spoon fed the entire game.

Everyone who ever played basketball EARNED every single point.

The ball went in the net.

Agree no asterisks. He scored'em period in terms of real stats. The fouling intentionally up 20 coming down the stretch not so sure. Meh. Chamberlain's 100 I'm sure was a bit gimmicky too.

i read that in chamberlain's 100 pt game, his team was doing the same thing , fouling so that he could get the ball back ASAP

There's a great article on wiki about Chamberlain's 100 point game. There is some classic stuff in there. Teammate Al Attles was perfect from the field and stripe and bemoaned the fact that he didn't get any ink for it. Both Russell and Baylor had been quoted as saying he would score 100 in a game at some point. Many others had similar comments. Apparently it was almost "in the air" and called a "fulfilled prophecy since his first game."

Key point: Wilt shot his free throws underhanded in the game and went Larry Bird on them. How did he ever change back to that terrible shot put style of his?

Says the Warriors did start fouling to up the possessions over the last 4 minutes. There was the same talk of not respecting the game by some.

Chamberlain went on Ed Sullivan a couple days later. I'm looking for it.

Somehow it reminds me of Jamal Lewis record game of 295 yards, where pre-game he trash talked the Browns (I was thinking it was the Bengals) saying he was going to do it. That was always a jaw-dropper for me. That a guy, even averaging a bit over 100, could just say he was going off for 300, and then do it.

Wilt the Stilt: he stared down Jordan once on a talk show when the GOAT stuff came up. GOAT statistically Wilt by a mile. The two all-time GOAT teams up to then were Wilt.

"Beyond the statistics and trends, there is a darker, more complex factor that must be acknowledged. Information circulating in the betting underworld of Cleveland suggests this game may be viewed as an "opportunity" by certain parties.

According to a source—a former employee of a legal Cleveland casino who maintains contacts with investment groups interested in "alternative sports betting markets"—a significant amount of "smart money" has been placed on the Over 158.5 for this specific matchup. This source claims that a group with deep ties to Northern Ohio placed well over a million dollars on the Over, broken down into hundreds of smaller bets across legal sportsbooks in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan to avoid detection.

The source's information is fragmentary, pieced together from conversations within this milieu, but points to a few key observations:

The Trigger: The real interest from this group began immediately after UMass's stunning upset of Miami (OH) . Until that moment, UMass was not on their radar. But that win opened up the bracket and created a perceived "opportunity" for the quarterfinal matchup with Toledo. The bets were placed quickly, reacting to the new landscape.

The Focus: Leroy Blyden Jr. According to the source, whispers in betting circles ..."

Just dropped an analysis for today's NHL matchup.

Na bro... the heat intentionally fouled the other team to get Bam more possessions to break 81. They challenged a call up 30 w/ 3 minutes left to get Bam more FT's. Bam didn't even shoot 50% from the field.

Corny AF... huge asterisk.

Go watch that Kobe game and tell me those games even compare. Kobe had to score for them to win, it was a close game till the 4th.
Kobe: 81 PTS, 28-46 FG, 7-13 3PT, 18-20 FT, 6 REB, 2 AST, 3 STL, 1 BLK, 3 TO, 42 MIN

Bam: 83 PTS, 20-43 FG, 7-22 3PT, 36-43 FT, 9 REB, 3 AST, 2 STL, 1 BLK, 40 MIN

Like I said... if this is what the NBA wants to do, then let the scorers have at it vs a tanking team. Break 100. Luka's 50 pt performance last night (1 ast short of triple dub) was more impressive than 43 FG and 43 FT attempts.

When he got close to 100. Nobody had gotten anywhere near that... so it's a little more understandable.

Wilt also had 25 rebounds, and shot well from the field and FT line.

“what the NBA wants to do” aka a thing that happened one time

lol Okay for 100, not for 80

smh.

Lot's of players have left and not played 4th quarters w/ high-scoring totals because their teams were comfortably winning. They didn't go back out to pad their stats... it's called respecting the game.

It just is... Heat and Bam fans, congrats. You can defend it all you want, but it's corny AF. It wouldn't be getting this much heat (pun intended) if it wasn't corny AF and disrespectful to the game.

3 numbers, much bigger than 2 numbers.

smh.

The previous record was 71 points and he blew past that w/o fouling.

Coaches also pull players having great nights in blowouts, to avoid risk of injury in a needless game situation.

I mean if you respected “the game”, youd occasionally talk about “the game”. Rather than whatever is on espn today that riled you up

Basketball is a team sport... right? Players constantly talk about winning... that's all that matters, and the numbers they end up w/ is whatever they end up with. Of course, sometimes when guys are close to triple dubs or whatever, they stay in a little longer, but usually not.

You play the game the right way, and the numbers land where they land. You don't FG hunt to drive up your own numbers. That's the difference between a show like the Harlem Globetrotters (and Bam's performance) and playing the game the right way.

Just my two cents... but as someone who has played and coached nearly their whole life, I don't understand how anyone can defend that game.

Freak daddy your opinion here is pathetic

Freak daddy your opinion here is pathetic

Well he did say it was only worth 2 cents...
