Today I purchased Blue Train by John Coltrane (on the blue note label) -Excellent and beautiful flowing Jazz work. Comp
Which has the better drugs, jazz or folk?
less cut drugs draw which better crowds of folk, jazz or girls?
This guy literally has a PhD in Frank Zappa but here he is with a meditative take on Henry Mancini.

Afro Blue also more than worthy of annual reminders
and here's the full album if you'd like to hear it in context with other songs
Wise One is the second track, and it's interesting to hear how they eventually get there from the opening tones
and yes sometimes John Coltrane was compared to an angry brass goose

The above is what I listened to when I was in the hospital after my hip surgery. It had an amazing power to straighten my brain out and let me rest. Saint John, indeed.

Just found this obscure youtube channel that's pretty good. You guys probably never hear of it.
Seriously though, Rick has a few interviews that are really special. This is one. Not that I comprehend all of it.
Rick's a national treasure. If I can't understand the music theory, I can always understand his rants against youtube.
this one is wild
recorded late november into early december of 1961
not much else going on in the world at that time other than one hell of a catch 22 as jfk labels troops sent to vietnam as advisory while castro goes full commie nuts and americans start orbiting chipmanzees around the earth next stop the moon

yall know what i mean most ever and always repetitiously is all this sidewinding bop but not movement when dolphy brashly slithers in from the long cane reeds with his clarinet and clear intent to stranglehold the rest of the song into my numb skull the bassist ways ever
so much fun
also underscores the rarity of even hearing a jazz artist speak
I've seen this before. I love the part at around 4:00 where Oscar is talking about how Art Tatum used to mog by throwing in all kinda glissandos and whatnot and Basie is like that's the same thing you been doing to me for years!
why not also from a sight unseen dead start still produce another ray of childhood wonder as he did with those ivories
This what I'm listening to bopping around Home Depot this evening.
from someone who identifies primairly reeding as jazz baratone

Serge was a terrible heroin addict and when he managed to get clean got some kind of spinal paralysis.
So he recorded this one sober, but unable to walk. Then he died at 33.
Different register obv but similar breathy soft tone.
Bonus legend Ed Bickert on guitar.
Serge Chaloff is a root cause of many post bebop broke jaw lingual jazz inflections
today first time knowing his name
never noticed how eerily important it was hearing in on non-strum music being created from an untarnished large brass bowl instrument
This showed up in my email inbox this morning. Why my love for Wes Montgomery would be considered controversial is beyond me, but it almost got me thrown out of my Thursday Nite home game more than once.
Broken YouTube LinkThis will not stand!
