Resorts World closing poker room amid Vegas tourism collapse
Following Planet Hollywood not long ago. Bummer.
Tourism has been taking a hit in Sin City — and now comes news of another poker room closure on the Las Vegas Strip.
A Resorts World representative confirmed to Fox News Digital that its poker rooms will be discontinued on March 30.
"However, we will be introducing new gaming opportunities to replace the poker room," the representative said.
The representative did not elaborate on what new gaming offerings would take the room’s place. It currently features No Limit Texas Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha and mixed games.
The closure will leave just eight poker rooms open on the Las Vegas Strip, according to the blog "Vital Vegas."

Las Vegas Strip gaming revenue fell 11% year over year, from $840,093,428 in January 2025 to $747,655,527 in January 2026, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB).
Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total gaming win of roughly $1.35 billion in January of this year, dropping 6.55% compared to the same month last year, according to the NGCB.
The online gambling market is expected to reach a projected revenue of $22.2 million by 2030, according to Grand View Research.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LCVA) recently released its year-end summary for 2025 as well — and those numbers are worrisome to many.

There were 38,545,700 people who visited Sin City — down 7.5% from 2024, the report said.
The highest visitation year ever recorded in Las Vegas was in 2019 — with 42,523,700 people coming by.
That was before a dip during the COVID pandemic, according to data that LCVA posted on its website.
The noted visitor volume in 2025 closely mirrors the levels seen in 2000, 2002 and 2003.
thanks, Obama!
Going to Vegas in 2025 compared to ~2015 was like driving from district to district in the 2011 Justin Timberlake vehicle "In Time" vs driving on the Autobahn
Fuck Vegas. Nickel and dime everyone to death charge $20 for parking, rooms suck and are expensive for no reason, service sucks, there’s a reason Vegas is drying up and it has less to do with the economy and more to do with greed.

Not to mention disgusting smoke filled casinos that probably aren’t appealing to younger audiences. They must be so afraid of losing the Asian degenerate gambler demo that they’ll alienate the US customer with insta-lung cancer floor conditions. (Obv the poker rooms, that are left anyway, are smoke free).
I realize this if off-topic for this thread, but this criticism of Vegas strikes me as absurd. There's lots of stuff that's overpriced in Vegas, but hotel rooms absolutely are not. The quality of hotel rooms is one of major reasons why Vegas is my favorite place in the US to visit.
Have you ever booked a hotel room in another major American city? Rooms in Vegas are like four times as large for a quarter of the price as, with nicer amenities and much nicer views, than basically any other city I've been to. (This is assuming you have some record of play and status with the company you are booking with, but it's really easy in most cases to get this if you visit Vegas on at least an annual basis.)

Wow, Flashback. When I was living in Vegas and I first learned Omaha over a decade ago, I thought that it might be a good idea to start off playing Fixed Limit Omaha High instead of Pot Limit Omaha High. I walked into Boulder Station's poker room that allowed smoking in that small glass enclosed space and I almost got insta-lung cancer from the poker room conditions.
some of the anecdotal comments here are wrong or misleading. vegas actually had record breaking gaming revenues last year on fewer visitors. this is by design. everything on the vegas strip is now optimized for high rollers with status and not for "vacationers". if you have status everything is still free/comped and super luxury better than ever before. if you dont everything costs money and is obviously not there for you. if you want service as a low roller i guess theres still downtown. its the K shaped economy vegas style.
Gaming revenue was down 11% year over year 1/2025 - 1/2026
Nevada set an all-time record for the fifth consecutive year in 2025, reaching $15.8 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR), a 1.2% increase over 2024. The Las Vegas Strip reported $8.82 billion in revenue a 0.03% to 0.11% increase compared to 2024. Baccarat HOLD (down 43%) has destroyed the strip casinos so far in 2026 even though the amount wagers is UP slightly. . Some super high rollers must be crushing!!!

It’s the stupid resort fees that irk people. Probably what gives the impression of them being overpriced, too. You think you’re getting a deal at $150/night the they hit you with $50 resort fee and $20/day parking. Now $150 is $270, almost a 100% increase on what you were originally sold on.
Not to mention the gouging on food costs.
So yes, the rooms are nice enough because they’re competing with everyone else right next to them. But they still absolutely gouge the consumers and nickel and dime them every step of the way.

Oh shutup. The ventilation is amazing and second hand smoke from a few days in a casino is a ridiculous overreaction

Vegas: People arent coming - we need people!
Also Vegas: That will be $8 for your 20oz Diet Pepsi sir.
Part of the problem is that some of the properties artificially inflated their balance sheets with a sale/leaseback arrangement, now the rents are due and they are scrambling to come up with the money.
These deals often involve specialized real estate investment trusts (REITs) like VICI Properties or Gaming & Leisure Properties (GLPI) acquiring the land/buildings, while the operating company (e.g., MGM, Caesars) continues to run the property under a long-term lease.

Long term these casinos screwed themselves with these real estate deals. Of course corporations don't care about long term as long as they look good in the short term. And it's not like anyone making these decisions plans on being with the same company for decades so once they leave they don't care what happens to the company.
While I don't like it I understand places doing great businesses charging more and more as long as people are willing to pay.
But when ghost towns like RW and FB want to fill the main floor with 6:5 bj and charge for parking it's comical. They should be begging people to park there even if they're going to walk to the Sphere. Guess what once they're in your building some of them will give you some business.
Jesus Fly, you sound like a racist. Want to bring uo some other common associations with different races?
Im white. And I do indeed appreciate a cigarette occasionally while having a drink. But this conversation is pointless

So common associations make you racist? Have you travelled to Asia, anywhere? China? Dude everyone smokes there. But I’m racist for saying an obvious fact, got it libtard.

That's roughly half the inflation rate?
No idea how domestic numbers stack up but international guests are down a lot. I saw somewhere 20%+ drop in Canadian tourists? Kinda surprised the weak Dollar didn't help but maybe the rest of the developed world is seriously pissed this time.
Vegas used to be a place where the everyman could go and get great deals on everything. Food, rooms, shows, everything was cheaper and felt more luxurious for the price than what you got elsewhere. The unspoken deal was that all these everymen would more than make up that value for the casinos with a gambling budget which was seen as money you would just throw away and hope for the best.
I was in Vegas in 2010 and 2014. Both times it was absolutely great. I was a student and the value on most things except the clubs was excellent and actually affordable. It felt like the casinos genuinely competed to give you the best deals.
I went back last summer with my GF and the change has been drastic. Resort fees that are basically a scam forcing you to pay like 50-80% more than the stated price on rooms. Parking fees. The prices are ludicrous for everything, even the cheapest food courts are overpriced. No free buffets for gamblers. The list goes on.
Its like Vegas expects people to pay out their arse for everything and the on top of that have any money left for gambling. And then they complain that people arent coming.
One guy above probably had it right. They dont care about low rollers any more. All they care about are the hyper rich whales. Getting one of those guys into your casino is worth 1000+ tourists. What they dont understand is that if Vegas loses its aura which it will if normal people dont go there any more and the general consensus becomes "Vegas is a scam and a joke" which is where its headed, that image will trickle upwards to the high rollers as well and they will also stop coming.

do i agree with what they are doing? no. do i hope it will fail? yes. but what the strip casinos are doing is deliberate and planned. They have basically destroyed the strip for regular people for months at a time for one week of F1 which everyone in vegas hates with a burning passion but some bean counters have decided that whatever it takes to get super high rollers in is worth it in the long run and super high rollers HATE crowds of poor looky loo plebs. right now the major properties are learning one of the downsides of super high rollers....sometimes they win, BIG!!! (and then leave)
And all of this whining about Vegas prices has exactly what to do with the Resorts World poker room closing?
RW poker room was always an also-ran, and never pulled people in at any time.
And quite frankly, the "Vegas is dying, and it's obvious that the only way to fix it is to give me free stuff that has more value than what I will spend, and that's the only way that I will come back" rants are getting beyond tired. Vegas doesn't want you the same way your family doesn't want you - you think you matter in this world, and you don't.
(btw - who the **** is "Vegas"? - do you mean the tourism board, the casinos, the county, etc.... because most of these rants here and on the socials seem to think they are all the same monolith, and try to get one of these entities to do things the others have control over)
I have stayed at Resorts World 3 times and the poker room was always dead so I would walk over to the Venetian or Uber. I found the staff at Resorts World rude the last stay.
Loved the pool , Rooms were nice and right across from Denny's
Last stay I checked in had a king and they told me we have upgraded you to a higher floor but its a queen. I said nope I like my King please. Sorry sir we do not have any kings but will give you a $30 credit. My reply was a night and she said yeah we can do that. When I checked out they would only give me a $30 credit and when I asked for the manager said sorry sir his reply will be the same. That was the moment I would never stay there again
