GG poker and country of residence question

How do GG poker accounts work with residency/country of origin and documentation?

As an American, I've heard that I can get an "agent" and play on GG using a VPN from another country. So, GG doesn't care where you are as long as you're logged in from an allowed country.

How does KYC work then? Is GG accepting your American documents for the account and saying, basically "it doesn't matter where youre from, just where you log in from?

What are the differences between a "genuine account" (using actual KYC from your home country, which is a GG allowed territory) and these "VPN" accounts?
For example, I have heard doing the VPN acct through the agent, that they can only promise to protect you up to certain limits like 5/10.

It seems better to play on a normal account.
Thx for your time.
