Netflix "Watch Instantly"
I just recently rejoined Netflix and was pleased to see they have added a "Watch Instantly" feature where you can stream
It wasn’t a cliffhanger, and it did end with the best possible piece of dialogue, but there was supposed to be a 4th season. Or at least they had plans for what it would be if it didn’t get cancelled. They did get a movie to wrap it up and I think ot did a great job.
I still think that not getting that 4th season is a crime against art and humanity…
There were several issues that prevented Deadwood from moving forward with s4, but the main one IMO was that they couldn't get Ian McShane signed. Deadwood ain't Deadwood without Al.
The main one was definitely money. HBO producing both Deadwood and Rome at the same time was an expense completely unheard of at that time. New management took over and promptly cancelled both shows.
If it makes you feel any better, Season 4 was always going to be a depressing ride. We would've seen the winter season for the first time, the fire that burned down the Gem Saloon, Al's death (possible suicide?), and civilization's grip continuing to squeeze the spirit out of the town. We wanted to be told something pretty, but it was always going to end this way.
I did enjoy the movie they made eventually, even though it essentially repeated the same beats of the show. Having most of the cast back together was a treat.
The new SNL UK premieres in UK this Saturday and every week will be available next day on Peacock in US. Tina Fey is the first host.

I agree, but what happened? Did he ask for too much money? Did he get tired of saying c***sucker every 30 seconds? lol

I believe that they took so long to decide on s4 (for other financial reasons, plus Milch was committed to producing John From Cincinnati), that McShane had already committed to other projects.

Re: the bolded
Good info on the real Al's demise below.

I remember liking John From Cincinnati. That's another cliffhanger cancelation that pissed me off.
A lot of the location shots for John From Cincinnati were filmed in Imperial Beach, California where I had my business for 36 years. Honestly, that was the only reason I kept watching it. The storyline was a bit too convoluted for me.

It was like seeing old friends again.
I started watching Bodies. Halfway though and liking it despite typically hating the way time travel is treated in shows.Have you finished Southland? I remembered why I haven't watched it as of yet. Apparently it was canceled with a pretty big cliffhanger in the finale. Still worth watching? That really ****s with me, kinda triggers my OCD brain to watch something that doesn't
Where do you stand on "Lost"? Not a cliffhanger, but more of a Wee Bey gif ending. The show taught me to recognize early when there's no possibility that the writers will put together a satisfying ending, and make the decision whether I want to enjoy the ride or disembark.
I'm not a big Tom Seugra guy - but I've gotten some solid laughs out of his Sketch show recently.
Wasn't the allure precisely in the clearly uphill battle of how in the hell* they were going to tie this together?
*maybe?
I liked Lost, although I never experienced the week to week anticipation and conversation as I didn't watch until several years after it was complete. Pretty sure I watched it via the Blockbuster or Netflix DVDs in the mail method, lol. I think maybe I should give that a rewatch someday since I really don't even remember the ending now. I guess I can live with bad endings, I just can't abide No Endings. A lack of imagination on my part, I'm sure.
The movie Croupier is excellent according to my tastes. Lots of great gambling psychology quotes and themes in it. I can't quote them right now as I haven't seen it in a few years. Well worth it, imo.

+1
I saw Croupier when it was first released and re-watched it many years later. Excellent film that launched Clive Owen's career.

Makes sense. I was a little more frustrated as I watched it week to week - and was young enough that it didn't occur to me that they wouldn't be able to pull it all together. It was a learning experience for me, and enjoyable if not satisfying. I still have no idea what happened.
Who picks a fight with Reacher? lol

Yup. +2. I love Neo Noir films, especially those pertaining to gambling!!! I remember making an all-time gambling movie lists, and Croupier entered my top 10 list (but not top 5...).

Not real, that's some AI shit.
nope was real, tmz posted it and Alan Ritchson talked about it.
looks like the neighbor was a karen and annoyed that alan was making noise in the daytime revving his bike

I'll take the other side of this one as we have some kids who ride there extremely loud dirtbikes up and down the street revving frequently and it's irritating af.
It's illegal for several reasons, and when policing fails, **** like this happens.
Several times I've considered pulling a Colin Farrell, True Detective Season 2 (3?) move and taking the issue up with one of their fathers - but seems like more trouble than it's worth.
Unfortunately, on the other side of the coin we have a bunch of untrustworthy law enforcement sparking calls to defund the police - which just further exacerbates the issue.
Tough times.
In other news - I watched Croupier yesterday based on the recommendations above. Solid movie - thanks for the rec folks!
Spoiler
My only issue was that the "twist" was a bit weak. Great - the father set up his son and the chick was a plant. But what was the actual point? Did they want the robbery crew to get caught? Who killed the GF in the hit and run and why?
Yea, that video didn't show the part where this guy ran out in front of Alan and stood in front of his bike making him lay his bike down to start it all.
Guy in blue is huge too. Wasn't sure who was who.
Alan Ritchson released bodycam footage. Seems things aren't quite how they appeared.
