the clinic shutdowns also suggest the real numbers were significantly higher than any study captured - this stuff was deliberately kept off the books, providers working on gender reassignment for minors had to access special segregated record systems specifically to keep it out of normal patient records, so the idea that insurance claim studies captured anywhere near the full picture is naive
seattle children's for example was doing this at serious scale until they paused it, and they're still dealing with the fallout where families fly in from across the country having booked appointments through filters that didn't catch that they're minors, only to find out in person they can't be seen. that's not a rounding error population, that's a substantial demand that the studies likely never fully captured

It turns out that like 67% of all Democrats think that Trans women athletes shouldn't be able to compete on sports teams. Now this is certainly less than 90% or so Republicans. But it is about the same as the roughly 70% of independents who think the same thing.
I was a lefty back in the 70's when trans tennis pro Renee Richards had become a woman. "She" went from being ranked like 150th among men to being ranked 17th among women. In one of the first tournaments she played in, the top 25 or 30 women boycotted the tournament and Renee Richards won it. Following that it was about the rules and Renee Richards was ultimately allowed to play (at like 6'2"). Which I thought was horrible.
Similarly with the recent swimming race in the NCAA championships where the newly switched trans woman won by like 2 minutes. In situations that are so unfair it is critical that the trans women aren't allowed to compete. But in a marathon where a trans woman finishes in the top 10%, so what?
For trans girls where either its been years since they had testosterone or they are pretty average at best, it should be up to the league as to what to do. I would hope that people would try to welcome them into the competitive world. Not about the winning. But about the experience for everyone.

When I played at Foxwoods (FW) there were women's tournaments every Deep Stack's series (which before Covid happened about 6 times a year). Because of law technicalities FW couldn't prevent men from playing in those tournaments. There were basically 2 men who played in every ladies tournament. One was a transvestite. I don't think he had become a trans woman (this was around 2010) and he still had a significant Adam's apple. He was welcomed by the women in part because he wasn't a super fantastic player. But probably more because he wore makeup and a dress and even though he was over 6' tall, acted like a woman. The other player was Bobby the Bus. Who dressed as a man. And he actually won one of the women's tournaments. The funny part was that every tournament that he got knocked out, every woman stood and applauded. Basically a standing ovation. FW ultimately changed it to charge men $1,000 in the $300 tournament and that put an end to it. Also Bobby the Bus died (not sure if he would have paid the $1,000).
So as a lefty I do think that trans women should be forbidden to play in women's sports/events if they would have an unfair advantage. And I think the competitors should be able to decide that. Or at least the representatives of the teams. But it is also important to let those that don't affect outcomes because of advantages based on their having been male, be able to play so that they can somehow meld into the female world.
Ultimately with roughly 1,700,000 trans people in the US to date I think it would be better for trans women to compete in their own bracket. Probably not a ton of teams but at least it would be fair.

But again, Republicans were losing the culture war so they turned culture into politics. Thats why MAGA tend to be so outwardly maga. Its their culture. Its their cult.

I don’t know, because when I was asking people to defend that the proposition “some men can get pregnant” is false within the semantics that pro-trans people use the terms, they couldn’t identify a non-equivocating reason why it was false. To me having unjustified beliefs is pretty crazy all around, and to stick with them when confronted with a sound argument is pretty dumb.

but it doesn't show up in the records - they actually take great care to keep any gender reassignment records separate from normal medical records to make them far less accessible - this is done for very good reasons to protect the kids from nefarious actors
like you see this, this is absolutely outrageous that the state of Texas would ask for this - so these hospitals are genuinely doing good by quarantining any records of gender reassignment on children
however, this also means any public numbers are going to be far smaller than the reality

Which is it: the doctors were making massive $$$ for the procedures from the insurance companies and government entities forced to pay for the care or the insurance companies numbers are under reported because all of these procedures were personal pay by their minor patients?
