Doesn't anyone else occasionally think that RED has a gas leak in his house?

likely more accurately characterized as a common run of the mill prefer bass over trouble valve vapor lock

Yeah, I didn't really understand that, though he seemed to be warning me about commute times? Not very likely to be commuting, and if so, may be off standard schedule. I may keep my professorial hand in, but not planning on a 9-to-5.

I thought the gas leak joke was relevant to this thread and assume RED knew I was joking. Garick, it sounds like you'd like some towns near where I live. Unfortunately on the other side of the country.

I'm looking for a new dining table. I have bamboo floors. I like one table that is oak, but am worried about the wood/grain difference. Should I care?

all in fun, i try to never take anything 'round here too serious
yes, the commute if crossing the river south in the morning and north in the afternoon is one of the worst in the metro area, but nothing like famously trafficed cities.

Randall -
are your floors the traditional bamboo blondish yellow?
horizontal cut (with the knots), vertical grain or woven?
guessing the table under consideration is white oak, not red?
any other unpainted wood in the room like casework or trim?

i quite enjoy various woods in combination when intentionally destinct, not so much when just slightly different from each other in tone and color.
one approach is to find the darkest tone of the floor and use that for the table. different species but this image gives the jist. also notice how the cradenza is a third wood middle warmth tone that can also be found in the floor

of course a second option is find a nice area rug

RED, medium to dark vertical bamboo in herringbone. I'll try to get some pics (and I should use a tool to show the table in my space).

And yes, a rug would do the trick, but I'm not the biggest fan.

also not a big fan of paying for an under the table rug
room first read imagines floors bold in both tone and pattern sharpie markering the grounded plane

do you want the table to appear anchored or conversely float and what sort of chairs are you proposing to surrounding it with

under the table rugs and over the pants hjs, is there really any difference?

You guys want to join for a bathroom remodel extravaganza?! Here we go!

Before:

Bizzare blend of opulence and desperation.

Ngl,I think I might have dropped acid looking at that.

Or maybe I need to.

Either way,sign me up!

This plan has evolved a little since I marked up the floor plan. Basically the same though. I may be tanking my resale value, but **** it, I probably won't sell anytime soon.

Once those curtains go to the dump, the house will be empty of all the curtains handmade by Gma.

So....seeing all those dollar signs on the plan, what's the budget looking like?

Switches! I'm buying the bigger material items and doing the electrical myself. Plumber will have to cut a hole in the slab to install the drain where I'm moving the shower to. The quote is for $19,500, including the plumber, with me supplying the tile, plumbing fixtures, floor heating stuff, and vanity/shelving. In addition to the electrical, I'll be moving the ac vent and running the new fartfan vent as there's not one in there now. I have $3200 spent on material, with only a few things left to buy, so probably around $4500 I'll spend on material. So, it should come in under 25k total, I hope.

here's a thought, preserve the bathroom and rent it out as an airbnb experience

have a hunch gma and i would have spun mighty a yarn before the party was done

everything you're showing makes practical sense and looks rather efficient and tidy.
one thing that isn't quite clear yet is how the function of that entry hall closet will be replaced

That closet will be gone. That whole end of the room will be the new shower.

World Cup's coming soon! Don't think I haven't considered being a temporary airbnb'er, lol.

understood, but entry hall closets can have a functional use aka do you have another way to store **** near your front door?

I don't keep anything in there now except the cushions from the patio furniture during cold or rainy times. It won't be missed.

took me a while to figure out that was a shower with the trim and curtains - truly amazing

Your Grandma and the owners of my house in Indiana would have enjoyed themselves talking interior decorating.

Your Grandma and the owners of my house in Indiana would have enjoyed themselves talking interior decorating.

We found a bunch of drawings and notes of hers from either a high school or college class on decorating, so late 30's, and everything in the house pretty much was exactly what she was thinking about way back then.

Living the dream!

Power out for about 3 hours today. Everything seems to be ok.

I don't understand the circuitry (?) of the neighborhood. I live on a small north-facing cul-de-sac, six houses, 3 on east, 3 on west. It attaches to a small half-circle, which connects on both ends to the through street (all residential).

Anyway, on the occasion we have a power problem, it seems to be the three western houses, plus that half of the circle, and the few houses directly behind on the through street. Other half of the cul-de-sac not affected.

I guess they must be on a different circuit (or whatever the correct term is)? I suppose there has to be some dividing line, just seems strange to me that they separated the six houses down the middle of the cul-de-sac.
