Vent! Run bad and tilt = 9bi downswing in 1250 hands/3hrs at 10nl
Little history on me. I'm a recreational player who picked up poker in 2016ish on my spare time.
From 2016 to 2019 I consumed a bunch of poker content via YouTube and Twitch, paid for the odd runitonce month of their course ect.
I started with dipping my toes in freerolls via acr to see if I wanted to continue with this. Won small and lost small, playing 1.10 and 3.30 mtts occasionally. Stopped playing around 2019 for a year or so.
Come 2021, Michigan passes legal online sports betting and poker. Pokerstars is offering killer sign up bonuses and I made an account and started grinding 2nl reg tables the day it went live in Mich.
I proceeded to 6 to 8 table 6max reg tables for 4 to 8hrs a day. There were so many brand new poker players in the pool because of the bonuses and free money stars was giving away, that i proceeded to win 100bi over the next 3 weeks.
I started a new job shortly after and had zero time to play since then all the way till about 1 week ago.
Figured id fire up stars and see what kinda cash tables still ran. Seen the 10nl pool is pretty healthy and decided to jump in, again 6 to 8 tabling 6max cash reg tables.
Proceed to play good but also run pure. Holding when ahead, making correct hero calls, and bluffing at seemingly the perfect times.
I'm up 16bi at 10nl in a matter of 4k hands across 14ish hours of play across 5 separate days 25bb+/100 wr. Obviously not sustainable, but I truly believe i can maintain a 10-15bb/100 wr with sufficient volume over 100k hands, with the pool in the NJ/MI combined pool.
Now yesterday I load up 8 tables like always and proceeded to go on the most egregious run bad over the next 3hrs and roughly 500 hands, and lose 9bi over that time.
2 aipf and 2 outer on the river for a stack
1 flush over flush for a stack
1 58/23/14 whale x/r me on a 347r flop when I flopped the nut st8 with 65s, he pots 9 turn jams 7 river and rolls over 97o for a stack
AK into AA aipf 100bb deep sb vs button for a stack.
All of this happens over maybe 90 mins and 500 hands.
The next 3 stacks I take full credit for. I was semi tilted and overplayed my top pair good kicker hands on dry boards only to get shown top pair better kicker like KJ vs KQ vs whale, and a set over set hand 33s vs 10s on a decently wet board
I shut it down at this point and called it a night.
Fired up today, and in exactly 32mins and 101 hands I win 4 stacks, strictly playing a tag 26/23/10 style and value betting my good hands and going for thin value in some spots.
All of that tldr story to say, I never knew how crazy variance could smack you on a given day, and if you sprinkle tilt onto it.... hold on cause it will be ugly.
Have a much better appreciation for it and now know I need to rage quit when im running like that or bad **** is coming.

9 buyins isn't even a downswing. It's super duper freakin standard dude.
A whole heap of text for some rec playing 10nl that can't tell they are the whale. You tilting is part of your reason like many recs you're a net loser. 9 buyins is fart in the wind
9 BI in one session is hard but not seldom especially if you lost some stacks due to tilt obviously.
As you seem to use a tracker: What is your result regarding Cash all-in-equity vs. your actual results?
I also play 5/10 NL for recreational purposes (used to play higher, but dont want to risk too much any more with family and two kids).
Currently I am also down, but from a mere math standpoint I got my money in good (but variance hit me), see this graph:
