I have one of David Sklansky’s 1982 WSOP watches — curious what it’s worth
I ended up with something pretty unusual and figured this might be the right place to ask about it.
About two years ago I acquired a 1982 WSOP gold watch directly from David Sklansky. With his recent passing, I’ve been trying to understand a bit more about what these are and what they might be worth today.
From what I’ve read, 1982 was the only year WSOP issued watches instead of bracelets.
The watch is engraved:
“David – 1982 World Series of Poker”
And inside:
“David Sklansky – Mix Doubles – Seven Card High – World Championship”
It’s a Baume & Mercier, marked 14K, and weighs about 2.15 oz with the bracelet. Not currently running.
I’ll attach some photos below.
Curious if anyone here has seen one of these before or has any sense of how rare they are / what kind of value they might have.
Not in a rush to sell, but would consider it if there’s serious interest from a collector.

Sweet quarter
david tried to sell it on pawn stars for 25k and was basically laughed out of the shop (instant decline). A watch like that without being a trophy is prob worth 10k, as a trophy its probably worth a lot less.
Not sure his death necessarily adds a lot of value to it as it would to a bigger celebrity, but I do think it will continue to appreciate yearly and if there’s ever an in-person poker Hall of Fame you might see it grow exponentially in value.
bout tree fiddy

literally no one will ever care about a poker hall of fame. it is basically a criminals and scoundrels hall of fame. WHICH IS FINE! (as a legend of gambling I get it) but no one is ever gonna care about it, nor should they.

Mob museum is full of criminals and scoundrels and it’s amazing lol. People tend to sensationalize and turn certain types of criminals into heroes. I don’t see why poker would be any different.

mob museum isn't a "hall of fame". its marketed as salacious/macabre. the exhibits are all of death and crime. seeing antique guns and actual artifacts of massacres has literally nothing to do with seeing the 2 cards (insert broke in hock poker goober here) won the WSOP of poker with.

I don't necessarily disagree that a poker hall of fame may never happen, more like a poker hall of fame yearly exhibit at the WSOP. But there's nothing about the mob museum that's marketed as salacious/macabre lol. The way mobsters are glorified in our culture has nothing to do with macabre. They're practically heroes on the level of Superman and Batman in some portrayals.

if exhibits of massacres and murder weapons isn't macabre to you, welp, uuuhhhhhhh, ya. Ive never noticed mobsters being glorified, do you only watch the first half of mob movies? i hate to ruin goodfellas, godfather, casino, etc. for you but in the end almost everyone gets murdered or imprisoned.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is full of pedophiles, huge tourist attraction.
You need better press.
OP, that’s a really cool piece you have there! Gold prices are high but the WSOP/David connection definitely adds to the allure. I’m guessing on eBay you can probably get $10, 000-$12, 000.
Unfortunately, I think most would prefer it to be the standard bracelet rather than the watch.
As stated, David took these very watches to Gold & Silver Pawn in Las Vegas (known as Pawn Stars on tv), and was told they’re basically worth their weight in gold. Unless a poker/wsop aficionado really wanted them and would pay up more than melt value. Which is doubtful imho.
Cmon man, provide the story please.
You dont need to include how much you paid of course, just how you came in contact with David. If its a simple ebay transaction, fair enough.
Good luck getting good value out of it
I'd start the bidding, but I'm not looking to bid against myself
Limon, these are admitted pedophiles. conviction in a court of law is irrelevant.
One example, Anthony Keidis admits to having sex with I believe a 14-yo? After he knew she was 14. He wrote that in his book.
I'm not looking to argue with you about whether Rock Gods used to bang underage groupies constantly, everyone knows that's true.
similar one on Ebay for $6k, price of gold may go up, I would maybe hang on to it for a bit longer.

oh, so its your imagination. lol. as i thought.
The only people who would pay more for this watch cuz he’s dead are ppl who post on his forum
