I just realized, and it makes so much more sense now, what is going on with Trump's "negotiation" line in Iran.
I keep seeing articles about him saying that negotiations are underway, despite repeated remonstration by the Irani government.
Well, there is reporting now that Army Rangers and Navy Seals have moved in.
So it seems clear now that Trump is actually negotiating - with a junta that he is preparing to install - while bombing out as much of the current power structure as possible.

he didn't just fail to respond to the climate issue, or to covid - he didn't even just impede the solutions -- he actively made these things worse
this is all newspaper stuff though. I think the real damage was at the desk-worker level - the general disfunction that he wrought among the services designed to support and sustain the complex society we live in, and its downstream damages.
