Considering playing full-time after uni graduation in 2026.

hi everyone, im a uni student rn and gonna graduate next year, and considering playing (online cash) full time. making this thread as a way to track my progress and keep me accountable.

i really love playing poker and am really into the math and stuff behind it. i play 100nl rn, gonna take proper shots at 200nl as soon as roll hits ~8k total (so very soon). got about $4500 cash + ~$2.5k in gems (GGPoker).

Longterm Goals:

[ ] Be financially free
[ ] Beat 200nl over 100k sample for >8bb/100
[ ] Play professionally
[ ] Get some sort of formal coaching

April goals:

[ ] pass my 3 exams
[ ] make $10k ev playing 100nl with wr > 10bb/100
[ ] study poker for an hour every day
[ ] 75k hands
[ ] Post an update here every week (starting April 7)
[ ] stay active? (optional)

hoping to maybe post on here once a week but not sure if ill remember to, wish me luck at the tables!

What's your current win rate/sample size? What's your current study routine? Do you only play on one site, GG? Why?

The best advice anyone can give you is, yes study and grind poker as hard as you can, but don't cause you to not finish school or pass up on any real life opportunities (internship/job). Poker can make you a lot of money, but having a stable job is the way to secure your future. If you can play poker on the side of that and retire early, it's a win/win.

my wr is currently 14bb / 100 at 100nl over 200k sample prerake, post I believe that comes to around 5bb/100+rb. I don’t have a very structured study routine but try to do a warmup as recommended by GTO wiz with 30minutes of trainer and a range construction and study one particular spot from a past session. I star a bunch of interesting hands while I play and review them later. Also I only play GG because the rb and the volume are the best here (ring fenced pool).

I’m gonna be doing an internship over the summer and hope to get a return offer from these guys should this poker thing not work out, I’m a pretty good employee 😀 I’m hoping that I can get to the point where I make more at poker than 2x job salary after tax, trying to use these next few months to get to that point

wishing you the best of luck! what part of the world?

im in ontario rn

Best time for it, imo. If you find it's not the life for you, you'll still have a degree and no employment gap to explain.

Apr 7 2026 Update:

Played a fair bit over the last couple days, played decent at 100nl (1st graph) and took my first shot back at 200nl (2nd graph). Ended up down 3BI but ran a bit below EV as well. Played pretty poorly I would say though I think it was mainly a mental block. I think the stakes are getting to me as I'm pretty broke irl right now and seeing a $1200 swing with less than that in my checking account is pretty rough lmao.

Luckily I start my internship in 3 weeks so gonna get a decent amount of life money from that. Planning to go back to 100 again for a while, probably til the end of this month, before taking another shot with clearer mind and better focus.

My study routine has been pretty scuffed, though I did have a good time of it today at least, went out and reviewed a bunch of hands from the offending session, and practiced some BB vs BTN 3bp spots, + read an interesting article about BvB after xbc flop. I am very intrigued to say the least. I'm going to try and do my studying outside of the house, maybe in a library or something.

(Yes I should put my graphs in pokertracker Im just too lazy to do it right now).

Also maybe I should send some hand histories or something here and get people's thoughts? Let me know.

Next update in a week (hopefully).

Hello fellow GG ontario 100NLer

GL man hope the run good continues!

def post HH also

Apr 13 2026 Update:

Played very well today as well as these last couple of days, finding it a lot easier to exploit the player pool after I consciously note hands of interest and what they tell me about the playstyle.

One thing that I have noticed that is a pretty visible leak is I don't want to fold to bad players lol. In a BTN rfi SB 3b, BB (hero) 4b BTN fold SB jam I think I need to start folding TT type hands against some nit regs. It's easy for me to look at the solver and say hey this play is approved but I feel like that is just an excuse to call. Fairly certain if we modify the ranges accordingly the solver would start saying to fold lol. This is definitely an ego thing but I've been trying to mitigate it by just repeating to myself that folding is a weapon I can use against bad players, and it has been working, but I need to stick to it.

Here is the pt4 graph:

and here is the gg prerake graph (i put this one in because it looks good and im proud of it:

I'm running pure rn. Here's an interesting hand tho. Yellow tag is okay reg.

I think I need to go geo sizing with my 2p+, maybe b250 or so, but in game I didn't think I would get called enough. Considered blocking river but ultimately decided against it. Lmk what yall think.

Anyhow the goal was 10k EV prerake this month, and its a pretty decent amount, but I think I can get it. Wish me luck 😀

In for Ontario GL bro! Nice graphs

no not yet, i've been thinking of applying to cfp but probably won't for a while. I think i will apply when I reach a bottleneck in terms of my learning, i am still pretty bad compared to higher stakes players and have a lot that i can learn on my own.

Hey, I have similar goals as you, I just graduated uni and taking a gap year to see if the online poker thing works out. Do you have discord?

Best of luck with ur grind mate and i hope u can make it. Why dont u play any Coinpoker from Ontario? Its extremly soft and RB is great too. How much RB % do u get on GG every month rn?

Apr 27 2026 Update:

Looking unlikely that I'll make it to 10k ev prerake before end of month, took close to a week off because of exams (i think i passed them but not confirmed yet), rn only at about 6.5k which is pretty far off from what I was hoping for but its okay. I start playing 200nl in May, just need to get the confidence up. I feel like it's just a matter of getting used to it and having the roll. Speaking of, bankroll is roughly 11k right now, so I should have plenty of room to go on swings and weather the variance.

im probably going to pour a lot of time into study starting now and build a solid theoretical foundation. Adding a new goal as well, to be shot taking 1knl by the end of the year. If anyone knows of any English speaking study groups that I could join or where to find them I'd really appreciate it.

I don't know much about Coin but I can get ~50% rb on GG assuming I cash out my gems for 10k, for now i think im just going to save it up. If coin is better with as soft of a pool I'll definitely join.

Hey,

I’m looking for 2-3 highly motivated study partners for online cash games 6max who are complete tryharders and want to become world-class poker players.

Ideally, people where poker is your main priority in life right now, with a full-time level commitment (50-60+ hrs/week including play and study).

About me:

- Professional esports background
- Played 5 years in the best Clash of Clans team in the world
- Team results: 1x World Champion, 2x World Runner-up, 1x 3rd place, 1x 5th place
- Team tournament earnings: $1M+
- In Rocket League, I was also Ranked Leaderboard #1 worldwide
- Started poker last year at NL2 and now play NL100

Poker is my new chapter, and I want to become one of the best players in the world here too (Top 100 goal minimum). I want to achieve that goal together with other ambitious grinders who aim just as high.

From esports, I learned that being surrounded by elite competitors makes progress faster and the journey more enjoyable. That’s why I want to build a small circle of crushers who push each other hard and hold each other accountable.

What I’m looking for:

- Regular study sessions / hand reviews
- Honest feedback, no ego
- Consistent volume and discipline
- Long-term mindset
- English/German speaking / Discord active

You look like a great fit, leave a message if you are interested 😀

I have sent u friend/contact request. Wanted to sent u a dm about coinpoker. Since u have to be careful talking about rb deals publicly. In general i can tell that u get on coinpoker a flat 15% RB and if u sign up through one of the thousand affiliate links u will get additional 15% on top. They have several promotions and leaderboards for CG which can help to increase the total RB up to 50%. Im playing both GG global playerpool and Coinpoker. GG is better in terms of action and traffic. Nevertheless Coinpoker games are softer. They attract really a lot of degens that want to spew their crypto lol Traffic is also nice and they have a lot of US & Asia based players which makes the games really juicy. Ill dm u more about the RB deals they offer in private if u dont mind? Im sure it would be great for ur volume and winrate if u add up coinpoker to ur list. Anyways best of luck at the tables. In terms of looking for study groups : Try out the raise your edge discord server. they have a sub channel there where u can look for study partners or try it out here. Im pretty sure u will find like minded people. In case u need more help with the search please let me know and i can show u excactly where to find it.

in case the dm thing isnt working u can add me also on discord : sickomicko1

Damn May has been an ordeal i barely have any hands, settling into work has been an ordeal, but going to be playing some high volume soon, planning to start tonight.
