i think part is fine and fits decently (much better than well for narcotics for example), but is also very easily missed

Cane is not even weak since there are a bunch of sugar cane based spirits. Like if sugar was on the board, it would be top 2 guess. The only question is whether or not he missed it, because it's way stronger than most of this stuff.
Part is just one of those words that vaguely hits almost everything, but is rarely strong. It's a tough word to avoid in a lot of cases and it usually gets guessed wrongly.

I don’t think I have ever heard anyone use the phrase “in a walking state.”
Your example of sleeping state makes me think of a waking state, but that’s an L short of the clue.

I haven't heard "in a walking state" but if you ask "what state is he in?" "he is resting, he is walking, he is sleeping, he is in Minnesota" all seems like reasonable answers

Where are you on brush? You mentioned it in your first post and I think it’s pretty all right (walking through brush).
i don't mind it 5th but kinda whatever on it, feels like a 1.5 where you could sorta link it. I could also see Robot or Guitar for instance
