I was looking into iron men among big men, kind of based on the lack of durability of Bowie and Walton, in particular. Kareem was impressive, Gilmore was mega-impressive playing every game 11 or his first 12 seasons. Elvin Hayes was ridiculous ... his LOW games in a season was 80, and that was only once, the other 15 seasons were either 81 or 82, and he missed 9 games in 16 seasons.

Who is the only player besides Wilt Chamberlain to average 20 pts. and 20 rebounds for a season more than once?

My first thought is Kareem

Wilt averaging 48.5 mpg for a full season is one of the craziest stats in NBA history.

Moses Malone

I looked up those 2 and neither Kareem nor Moses ever averaged higher than 17.6 rebounds per game.

It's pretty amazing that Kareem is still alive. You don't hear of 7'2" guys living yo be 78 years old usually these giants die relatively young.

Kareem had a somewhat major health scare 10+ years ago iirc, something like de-fib or another heart issue. I remember a commercial about it and he was thinking he was just tired, and if he didn't get it checked out he would've likely suffered a fatal heart attack.

Jerry Lucas is the other guy with 20/20 average twice. There is a great ESPN Sportscentury on him on youtube. Memorizing phone books or audience names is far from the strangest thing about him. Well worth watching. I remember him as a boy ... one of the first centers shooting long bombs back then and uncanny rebounding for undersized guy compared to the giants. Played college at Ohio State with Knight and Havlicek in 3 straight NCAA finals, winning one. He got traded to my favorite Knicks team and they won another title against Chamberlain, and lost a final to the GOAT Lakers teams of '72.

Yeah, Kareem has de-fib. It's a lifelong medication thing to control heart beat. My lady friend has it ... gets scary when it strikes hard. They go from looking like their dead or bedridden for life to fine in about 12 hours.

I've often wondered about the extreme height and longevity issue. I looked it up once but don't really remember for sure the result. I did come across a stat that one of the leading factors in recurring cancers, and maybe it was mortality of cancer, shockingly, is height. Maybe it was only a certain kind of cancers, and it was something about growth hormone affecting tumor growth.

Yup, yup.

can spend the rest of the cap on the other 4 spots, sick

Is LeBron a little tone deaf that calling his son Bronny might not be such a wise idea? Seems to just open him to extra mockery. His middle name is Raymone, I think I'd have started calling him Ray when it appeared he was going to be playing.

Being super tall is bad for sone of the same reasons being really fat is bad (or even excessively muscular). Your heart just has to work so much harder.

I'd be shocked if Shaq is alive at 70.

LeBron has said he regrets naming him LeBron Jr but wtf he was 19 at the time. Never thought of the Ray angle but yeah definitely.

IIRC the health effects are more pronounced among tall women.

I had Shaq dead within ten years of retiring at 450lbs, so who knows, but that’s just a massive organism to keep functioning longterm under any conditions.

Lol.

A defibrillator is the thing that shocks your heart back into rhythm, in an emergent situation.

Atrial fibrillation, or A-Fib, is a fairly common heart dysrhythmia that is the most common cause for stroke in older folks. Taking blood thinners greatly reduces that risk, and I think that’s what Kareem was selling.

Knicks/Hawks Round 1!

How confident are you feeling, AIM?

Hawks are hotter than fish grease.

I think the Knicks are juuuuuuust inconsistent and overhyped enough to be ripe for an upset.

So Doncic, Wemby, and Jokic don't qualify for MVP?

pretty underwhelming round 1 matchups wise, obviously a lot of that has to do with the lakers injuries

hopefully cha can win and play det

also lol @ KD having to go to OKC rd 2....he might start tweeting from his main account at halftime

Jokic and Wemby got theirs and Doncic is going to Appeal.

Yeah. Knicks a good team, but not great. They won't win a title as designed right now. Championship will be won by Jokic, SGa, or White. Derick White is the best basketball player on the celtics. He deserves more love.

It's comical every year like who deserves to win mvp?. When if we're being honest Jokic deserves it every year. Dude does everything! Wemby prolly wins it next year because he wants that title so bad he's gonna go crazy. Like scoring at high level and continuing playing great defense. Next year he starts to show he's a goat type player.

am I the only one who thinks this Mikal Bridges streak is corny af?
