Road to the 2027 Crossfit Games
You gotta have dreams, right?
Background:
Crossfit
Gymnastics
EMOM 10:
1 - 9 cal row, 30 seconds
2 - 4 bar muscle ups
(did the last 2 minutes in a minute)
Metcon
5 rounds for time:
21 Calorie Row
15 V-Ups
9 Dumbbell Bench Press, 32.5kg DBs
15:48 - 25kg DBs
---------------
Cool. BMUs felt incredible. I just about kept the bench presses unbroken. I've done fewer metcons off late, more strength, and lots of tennis. I am quietly confident about doing well in the Open in 2 weeks. I think my cardio is pretty good right now.
Crossfit
Strength
OHP: 50x3, 52.5x3, 55x3x2
Metcon - 21.3
For time: (15 minute cap)
15 Front Squats, 42.5kg
30 Toes-to-Bars
15 Thrusters, 42.5kg
- rest 1 minute -
15 Front Squats, 42.5kg
30 Chest-to-bar Pull-ups
15 Thrusters, 42.5kg
- rest 1 minute -
15 Front Squats, 42.5kg
30 Bar Muscle-Ups
15 Thrusters, 42.5kg
138 reps - 3 BMU (3 rep PR)
----------------------------
Well, maybe I'm not in Open shape (starts in a week). I got there with 2 mintues left last year and didn't get a single BMU. I thought I would take it easier this time, but only got there with 90 seconds left and did an ugly set of 3. The chest to bars buried me.
I'd like you to go full Open froth this year. Repeat wods etc.
Open Gym
Bulgarian Split Squats: 60x5, 62.5x5, 65x5 (per leg)
Bench Press: 60x8x3, 60xAMRAP=14
Chest Supported DB Rows: 20sx12,10,10,10,10
Ring Hamstring Curls: 5x12 (slow eccentric)
EMOM 10:
1 - 15 curls, 7.5s
2 - 4 strict handstand push ups
---------------
Another AI led strength session. I hurt my ribs out of nowhere a couple of days ago and it hurt too much when squatting, so I split squatted. That's the heaviest I have done, and there is quite a bit of room up.
I actually might do. I'm a tennis frother now and the pressure is off the Open. I'll do it Saturday. If I can get a better score, I'll do it on Monday. Because why the hell not
Crossfit
Gymnastics
1 set of max ring muscle ups: 4 (stopped there)
8 minute EMOM:
1 - 30 sec row at 5k pace
2 - 2 ring muscle ups
stopped at 6 minutes
Metcon
4 sets:
1:00 Max Calorie Machine
1:00 Max Sit Ups
1:00 Max Step Back Lunges
1:00 Rest
Didn't count
-------------------
Went very easy today. I am raring to go for Saturday!
oof, guessing 26.1 isn't ideal for you. a pure gasser
Crossfit
26.1
180 reps
------------
Pathetic. But also got a judge that was unfair. He gave me like 15 no reps and was making me do 10.5 foot wall balls instead of 10. Redoing it tomorrow.
getting no repped in a metcon is infuriating
26.1
194, just the one no rep. Mostly 6s and 7s for the wall balls. Better.
Crossfit
Strength
OHP: 57.5x3x2, 60x3
Metcon
3 Sets:
9-12-15 Calorie Row
7.5m-15m-7.5m Handstand Walk (or 2-4-2 Wall Walks)
-rest 3:00 between sets-
3:33, 3:47, 3:45 - wall walks
----------------------------
Fine, paced it okay for once.
I just don't think I'm in good enough cardio shape. I haven't done anything different before the Open and my frothyness seems to be waning.
Crossfit and Open Gym
EMOM 8: 2 squat snatches
20, 40, 45x6
Back Squat: 95x5x3
Ring Rows: 4x15, 1x20
---------------------
Fine
week 2 looks nasty
26.2
112 reps - 14:39 tiebreak
-----------
Been sick as a dog. Heroic effort from me to show up. I waited till Monday evening to do it to give myself as good a chance as possible. The workout was made for me. How many RMUs can you do under fatigue! The answer for me was 0 under fatigue and illness. Onto next year, sigh
#whowantsitmore???
Open Gym
Clean and Jerk: 75, 80, 85, 90
Every 3 minutes for 4 sets:
10 Overhead Squats, 30kg
30 Double unders
3 wall walks
EMOM 8:
1 - 15 push ups
2 - DB curls, 7.5kg
-------------------
Can't be bothered with logging anymore. Going to move to a weekly update with highlights
Open Gym
Bench Press: 70x6x4
Strict Pull-ups: 4x5 (1s pause at top)
----------------------
No WIM after 2 hours of tennis yesterday. May or may not do 26.3 tomorrow. I think I've had a chest infection and not a standard cold. High intensity exercise fills me with dread.
Week of 16/3 to 22/3
Monday - Intermediate Tennis Class
Tuesday - Crossfit (Muscle up EMOM, gassy interval metcon with toes to bar, KB swings, rowing)
Wednesday - Open Gym (Front squats, 28 minute EMOM with DB bench, ring rows, rowing)
Thursday - Intermediate Tennis Class
Friday AM - Crossfit (Snatches, metcon with wall walks, overhead squats, and pull ups)
Friday PM - Tennis social (beat a guy in advanced 4-1, 4-1. Coach said I had to move up to advanced)
Saturday - Off
Sunday AM - Open Gym (Bench, deadlifts, accessories)
Sunday PM - Tennis with the missus
------------------------------------------------
So fun. I went to judge a friend of mine on Monday for 26.3. I went in my workout clothes but didn't do it. I was still recovering from my chest infection and would have done horribly. Tuesday's class confirmed that.
6 months in, and I've made it to the advanced classes in tennis. It is definitely my new addiction. My fitness and speed is way better than anyone else and my touch is pretty good. I just need to work on my groundstrokes and I think I can get to a good level.
23/3 to 29/3
Monday AM: Crossfit - Squats and Jackie PR!
Monday PM: Intermediate Tennis
Tuesday: Off
Wednesday: Weightlifting (lots of pushing and clean and jerks)
Thursday: Intermediate Tennis
Friday: Crossfit (RMU metcon at easy pace, following by a nasty front squat/burpee metcon)
Saturday: First ever tennis tournament, got 2nd!!
Sunday: Off
---------------------------------------
Another super fun week. The crossfit highlight was an 8:04 Jackie and a 24 second PR which is pretty massive.
Mar 2018 - 10:03
Sep 2018 - 9:19
Sep 2021 - 8:37
Oct 2024 - 8:28
** Today - 8:04
I am not entirely sure where it came from. Split times were 4:04/2:25/1:34. Last time they were 4:06/2:32/1:50. Perhaps it was the grips for pull ups. I rowed at 1:57 and then slowed down for the last 100m. Thrusters were 25/10/8/7. Pull ups were 5/5/5/5/4/3/3.
--------------------------------------
The tennis tournament on Saturday was so amazing. There were 10 entries of all levels. I think possibly 5 from the advanced class. The format was 2 groups of 5, and then knockouts. We played fast4, which is 1 set to 4.
Match 1 - Beat a girl 4-1. It was actually 1-1 and I was pretty nervous, then just got it done.
Match 2 - Beat a guy from intermediate 4-2. My style is pretty defensive and he was even more defensive than me! Was feeling good now.
Match 3 - Beat a guy from advanced 4-2. I think I just frustrated him by returning everything.
Match 4 - Lost to a guy in advanced 4-2. He had an absolute monster serve and was the best player by a mile. It was 2-2 and deuce on my serve. I lost that game and then he served 4 unreturnable serves.
Semifinal - Beat a guy in advanced 4-3 (9-7 in a tiebreak). Quite proud of this. I could have choked twice. I was up 3-2 and 40-0 and he won that game. I was then up 5-1 in the tiebreak and lost 5 points in a row. But held on to win 9-7. He was talking to himself every point and I found that very amusing.
Final - Lost to the same guy 4-1 I lost earlier. He had a 30 minute break after winning his semifinal 4-0 and I was pretty tired now after 2.5 hours. I also lost my will to fight after reaching the final and knowing who I was playing. Something to work on for next time.

30/3 to 5/4
Monday AM - Crossfit - 25 min AMRAP with strict pull ups, push ups, air squats, and running
Monday PM - Advanced Tennis Class
Tuesday AM - Strength at open gym - Front Squat 105x3 at low RPE
Wednesday PM - Advanced Tennis Class
Thursday AM - Crossfit - Metcon with running and strict HSPU, did some pulling after
Friday PM - Tennis with the missus and then a tennis social. 2 hours but pretty light
Saturday AM - Open Gym - Bench 80x7 at RPE 10 (ties rep PR). Deadlifts and accessories
Saturday PM - Tennis for 2.5 hours with 2 friends. Destroyed.
Sunday - Off
-------------------------
Loving everything really. Tennis is so fun. Crossfit is still fun with trying to pick and choose what to do. 2 metcons a week and 2 strength sessions a week seems good.
6/4 to 12/4
Monday - Crossfit (5x3 back squats and a toes to bar heavy metcon)
Tuesday - Crossfit (snatch complex and a short metcon with snatches and burpees)
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - Hyrox Class (long metcon)
Friday AM - Open Gym (OHP, strict pull ups, incline bench, ring rows curls)
Friday PM - 2 hours of tennis with two friends
Saturday - Off
Sunday - Off
--------------------------
Tennis classes were off this week for Easter, so I actually had a nice and easy week. Still enough to keep everything ticking along
13/4 to 19/4
Monday AM - Crossfit (Strict half Murph - 21:45)
Monday PM - Advanced Tennis and 30 minutes after
Tuesday AM - Crossfit (Clean complex and a deadlift metcon)
Tuesday PM - Advanced Tennis

Thursday PM - Intermediate Tennis (last one)
Friday - Crossfit (Bench 5x5 and a front squat/ring muscle up metcon)
Saturday - Tennis Tournament (won 1, lost 3, came crashing back down to earth)
Sunday - Off
---------------------------------
I actually think I'm getting fitter with all the tennis. My strict half murph was nearly 2 minutes faster than my previous half murph with kipping!
20/4 to 26/4
Monday AM - Open Gym (Squats, bench, strict pull ups, accessories)
Monday PM - Tennis Group Lesson
Tuesday - Tennis Group Lesson
Wednesday - Crossfit (Snatch complex and metcon with double unders and OHS)
Thursday - Hyrox class
Friday - 2 hours of tennis with a friend (got absolutely smashed)
Saturday - Off
Sunday - Open Gym (all upper body)
-----------------------------
So fun. It's nice to play a sport as opposed to just fitnessing. I need to get my diet back in order.
Also, we've now had 2 miscarriages and she's pregnant again. And it's twins. My life is about to become chaos.
oh congrats on the impending arrivals - what stage of the pregnancy are you up to now?
miscarriages are no good, but so common. that knowledge doesn't help....particularly when they're happening before you've had your first because of all the uncertainty and emotion, but crazy common. my ex and I had 6 total pregnancies for 3 kids
and yes, getting diet in order now a good idea - you'll for sure struggle with that in the first 3 months + when the babies arrive
