Ditto on South Point being fun poker room and great value on gambling and food?
I played a tourney there last year and had a blast, (going deep always helps) well run and friendly which makes a difference. (Take note Aria, Wynn & Venetian) I wish they would add like a $600 multi day or something similar to what GN does in their Grand Poker series.
Waiting on GN schedule to fill out my in between tourneys from WSOP events as they are a fun lively, good value place as well.
Coming June 14 and jumping right into the $800, 8 handed NLH. Staying until June 25th or so.

The South Point 300k structures are very likely to be the same as the 300k they did a couple months ago, which is still on their website. I remember them skipping a couple levels (2500 bb and 5k bb) last year which made it a little more turbo in nature towards the bubble, and the structure for the one in February was the same.

That's actually the poster for the upcoming Lucky 300 tournament. The dates are May14-17. If you click on the poster, the structure sheet will appear.

Yeah, I contacted them via Facebook and they said the structure should be the same as the Lucky 300K. It rates out at 53 s-points. If this were a single day event, this would be a decent structure for $300. For a 2-day, it leaves a bit to be desired.

For comparison, the Orleans Sunday Special ($300 + $100 add-on) is a single day event and rates out at 81 s-points. This is borderline too good for a single day event which gets a big crowd.

Anyhow, I might give SP a try if I find myself with nothing to do on a Wed/Thu. The only obstacle is the relative distance from the WSOP, but I have played at SP before and I like the venue. I suppose this is their first kick at a summer series. I'm not sure what it's like from a # tables standpoint, which may explain the turbo-ish structure.

still surprised at caesars 100$ tourneys with no BB ante first few levels if they run those during wsop they will get a decent amt of runners for sure.

also i expect mgm, aria etc other events to get posted soon right, usually mgm has one prior to wsop if i recall

Apparently the MGM schedule is out. Credit riverph7 from another thread.

Love the mixed-game action, don't love the venue.

I’m surprised MGM and GN are waiting until June to start. WSOP has their opening $500 mini mystery milly before then and I’m guessing it will be 20, 000-30, 000 in that event.

Why not start a week earlier and capitalize on the influx of low buy-in tourists coming out for that?

I agree with you !

But let’s be confident and try to predict some realistic numbers for fun.

. I am 100% sure it will be over 20k and under 30k for opening Mini Mystery event.

My prediction is over 26000.

Early on, I agreed with your estimate. But now that some of the other venues are starting later, I think a fair number of low buy-in tourists will wait to come out when more tournament options are available.

Sure, the WSOP is the main draw. But for people who can only afford to come to Vegas once per year for poker action, I’m thinking they’ll wait for Colossus or another low buy-in so they have MGM and GN as options, too.

My revised realistic estimate is between 18, 000-22, 000 runners.

I see they are hosting the Gulf Coast Poker Tour Golden Event June 16th-20th ($720.00) w/ 5 starting flights. Have they hosted this previously? Wondering how many runners they had and what the results were. I can't seem to find where they have hosted this before? Looks intriguing.

I am confident this would be the first time for GCPT at the Golden Nugget at least during the WSOP time frame. Definitely not in 2025 or 2024. Be nice if they put out the structures but I guess that would be expecting to much. Last year the Golden Nugget structures were poor to terrible. We know they will have a new Tournament director
( sadly ) so my personal expectations for their home events is minimal. Who knows who controls the GCPT structures.

agree that I feel some of these tourneys starting a week later than usual,. usually they start first week of wsop but some are waiting a week,
maybe they ran the numbers for the first week and think its not worth?

I’d be really surprised because the first week is usually one of the busiest at WSOP. Unless the numbers show that the first week visitors don’t typically leave the Paris/Horseshoe property to play elsewhere. But I doubt that.

I think it's hard to run any low BI event and compete with a $500 mystery bounty at WSOP. Even though the structure for the $500 looks terrible, everyone is going to choose it over a $300 tournament elsewhere. The difference in price points isn't big enough.

It didn’t stop them from opening the same week in previous years even though WSOP historically has a low buy-in event to start.

I'm intrigued by the GN "rookies & recs" event -- 2 multi-day $420 tourney during seniors week -- limited to players with less than $500K in winnings on Hendon Mob. Day 1A, 1B, then Day 2 combined field. Means trekking up to the Nugget, but could be interesting. Have then run an event like this before?

500K? That seems way too high. I have seen venues host rookies events before, but it has typically been under 25K on Hendon Mob. You could be making a living for a few years from tourneys, and still have under 500K.

Yeah. I mean, if you have 500K over the course of 15 or 20 years that's one thing. But 500K in the last 3 years would not seem to indicate the target audience.

by akashenk m

In my opinion It's more a marketing ploy than reality - to give the impression that the field will not include "Hi roll professionals" The reality is MOST (certainly not all ) won't play in a $420 buy in when OTHER options are readily available. Let's face it after last year the Golden Nugget can't really afford to turn away a significant number of potential entries and I doubt the Gulf Coast Tour can either.

A little sad to see the Nugget move away from their weekend multi day events. It feels like they’ve shifted toward the The Orleans Hotel and Casino model, where most tournaments are single day with a pretty standard schedule, aside from the mixed games sprinkled throughout the series.
It used to be easy to pick any weekend in June, stay downtown, and fire multiple bullets into a weekend event with a real shot at making Day 2. I’d post up at California Hotel and Casino to save money and just grind Nugget events and cash games.
At this point, I’ll probably stick to the Strip. The Nugget’s β€œGrand” series just doesn’t hit the same anymore.

Any news on venetian/wynn yet?

Any news on venetian/wynn yet?

Both schedules have been out for a few weeks.

by RealMcCoy m

Maybe so. I haven't played at GN since before COVID simply because it's far from where I stay and there are plenty of good options nearer to the WSOP. When I did play there years ago in their ME, I had a decent experience, though I imagine it might not be the same place nowadays. As a sort of outside observer, I think GN is uniquely positioned for success during the WSOP. I think they are pretty much the only series in the area. Maybe they can't have the same kind of series as a strip venue, but they have a captive audience. There are a lot of people who prefer to stay downtown for varoius reasons. I would guess many of them play poker.

I play at least 1 to 3 events at GN each WSOP. I like going downtown as a change of pace from the strip. That said
Their structures have gotten progressively worse IMO and antidotally their attendance has decreased.
Guarantee fiasco of last year and dumping their player friendly TD couldn't possibly help their image with informed players. Sad really, im awaiting the release of their ling promised structures to see if I can justify even 1 event this year. Im sure im not the only one that feels this way and its a shame.

Honestly, if they don’t have a decent turnout this year, I think this will be the last year they do it.

And that’s going to be a tall order given what happened last year. I think what few people they had show up last year will be reluctant to go again this year.

Their only hope is their partnership deals with GCP, BPO, and LIPS. If those don’t bring in the players, I think The Grand is history.

I have played in the Grand at the GN years ago. Haven't played there the past few trips I have been out there. What happened last year?
I know they didn't honor a guarantee at one point, but I thought that was 2-3 years ago. Was thinking about playing in their HORSE event on June 7th.

If this post bothers anyone, I’ll take it down.

Hey guys, just a quick drop-in to point you to the thread on 2+2 about a tool I built that’s really useful for live players (especially for the Vegas series). You’ll see I’ve just added a discount code specifically for the 2+2 forum, and it’s only available for a few days. It basically costs about the price of a Big Mac meal for a full year:

https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=5...

I won’t take up more of your time, but you should really check it out (there’s a free plan with no credit card and no commitment). Everyone who’s tried it has found it genuinely useful, and people on this thread are exactly the target audience.

The Wynn, the Nugget, and the Aria have decided to wait until the series is over to publish their structures sheets ? β€” or is this some new concept of a Mystery Tournament?
