What’s your biggest headache growing a home poker game?

Hey everyone, I have a few of my own home game challenges but curious to know what everyone else experiences.

For me, it's just been getting guys who say they're coming to actually show up.

We play a $.50/$1 NLHE that actually plays more like a $2/$5, lol.

I may be the only serious poker player, the other guys just like to gamble.

For me, one of the biggest challenges was simply organizing games and keeping track of players without constantly chasing people down via phone calls, texts /WhatsApp. It often got chaotic at times. So I ended up building an app to streamline everything — invites, tracking, comms, etc. It's honestly been a game changer, not just for me, but for the whole group.

Developing a roster of substitute players has been the biggest challenge so far. I took over organizing the weekly game from a player that moved out of state. It's tough during the off season (summers in AZ) because some players are away for 2-3 months. That said, I am making some progress and will be in better shape going into next year

Running out of drink.. that could be a problem

Besides people not showing up my biggest problem is limiting the number of players. I have a bi-weekly tournament that has grown from one table to four and when I announce the next date I am at 30 on the first day. Once golf season ends I know it will grow again (but I do not have room in my house for more than 4 tables).

I charge no rake so maybe that's it. In reality I kind of fish as buying the tables, chairs, cards, chips etc has ran me about 3 K minimum.

Attendance, same with tabletop RPG groups, what works for me is to have a pool of 10+ people I'd play with in a common group chat, and when I open an invitation I expect 6 to accept it and 4 to actually come... Whoever shows up gets to play.

Organizing home poker games can be tricky — keeping everyone consistent and engaged is the real challenge. That’s why I started mixing in online sessions; it keeps the momentum going even when people can’t meet. Lately, I’ve been using online https://1winbet.pro/app for smooth online play and tracking — it really helps maintain the competitive spirit between live games.

If you're running on PPPoker or ClubGG, the main headache is dead tables when regulars aren't online. The fix is joining a union - connects your club to a shared player pool. TOP UNION (topunion.club) works across PPPoker, X Poker and ClubGG
