Poker Dad - Start of a new online poker Journey

Poker Dad - Start of a new online poker Journey

Where to even start….

Little Bio about myself:

So im 37 years old, I have played poker since I was 15 and online from the age of 18, I have two amazing kids, a daughter who is 16 months old and a step son who is 6. Im from the UK, England, and have an amazing girlfriend of over 4 years

So why am I here on two plus two….

So as my son is in school and even though my daughter is only 16 months old, I have much more free time to get back into playing poker which has always been somewhat of a constant with me and will never totally waver. So after chatting over with few people including my partner, I am going to start up playing online poker again, and I want to share my journey with fellow poker players and poker dads even to show that I can play to enjoy and win as a little bonus

So what is the plan…..

Here are my steps to get started:-

  • 1. Getting a small PC and setup
  • 2. deciding which site to play at (limited for reasons I will explain later in the post)
  • 3. Setting out guidelines to follow e.g Bankroll Management

So im not wanting some flash gaming pc just an office pc with some what of decent spec to run, so any recommendations would be great

Also limited sites can only play at 3 ipoker network sites (paddy, grovsner and sky poker) and also PartyPoker (best bet) again any suggestions would be great too

Finally my biggest issue is tilt and BRM which I donÂ’t want to have control my play anymore as im doing this for fun and winning money is a bonus for me

Conclusion…

So yeah this is going to be a fun one so join me and I will post regular updates and interact with you all and become regular on the forum

***UPDATE***

Date: 28/04/26

So it’s been little while since I posted on here and granted only one person commented and no one else has seemed to have bothered to read it (which is fine Im a newbie so not expecting the work haha) im still wanting to share my journey and have some fun with jt and so major changes and update on poker

* PC Setup
So I needed a setup but nothing fancy and so I bought a little office machine setup pc, it’s a dell office machine with i5 4th generation cpu and 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics with a dell 22 inch monitor and keyboard and mouse, paid way above the price for it as I could not get a machine lower than £100 which is insane but anyhow what’s done is done but I now have a setup to play poker with

* Poker site choice
I had a few to choose from as I mentioned at the start of my post, and even though I was little hesitant, I did decide on playing Party Poker. This was just down to the fact that I enjoy playing the tournaments there and also it has fast forward which ipoker networks do not so that’s my site of choice going forward

* Bankroll (starting and any rules/guideline to follow etc)
Now I had wanted to just deposit a bankroll but I had around 80 cents and so I went and played a few overdrive games, I made it into $1.30 and so went to fast forward cash $2NL and I made it into a whopping $9 bucks! I then decided as I was on a roll, I decided the next day to play again and this time ran up to an amazing $53 dollars after moving up from 2NL to 25NL and then I decided that I was going to make this my bankroll

Now we have good news and bad news here, the bad news is that I decided to play on slots to see if I could boost the bankroll (I know I know slap my hand and send me bed haha) the good news is that I made up to $250! Even though this wasn’t exactly grinding it, I never wanted to be full on pro time and have strict rules etc to follow, because even if I had lost I was planning on depositing a bankroll anyways. This just means I have not deposited at all! So have to be pleased about that! (Towards the end i will explain what rules I am going to follow as there is further updates coming up!)

So today I had played a daily legend tournament of $5.50 PKO bounty $500 GTD game which I ended up coming in 1st place for around $130 odd dollars including $80 odd dollars of bounties collected which boosted my bankroll $380! I did later that day play cash and was on a bad run and went down to $324. By this point I left it and wasn’t planning on playing anything until next day….that was until the early hours where I played another daily legend game PKO $5.50 $300 GTD game where I made it to final 3 where I was on a 170k stack against a 1.8mill stack and a 1.3mill stack (estimates as I don’t have records of these am afraid!) and came to actually win this and boosted my roll baxk to $387! In both games I felt confident, I was enjoying playing, I got bad beat but kept my cool and grind it out and it paid off big for me, I know variance is big and so I can come across downswing at times but it’s all about mentality and determination to not lose it and quit and that’s what I’m planning on doing

Rules im going to follow moving forward:-

* Tournament Buy In Limit = $11 max
* Cash Table Limits = highest - $25(25NL 1 table Max) lowest - $2(2NL 2 tables max)
* If I lose 10 buy ins at lowest stake cash or lose 3 buy ins at highest stake cash i will end session for the day, tournaments if I don’t cash and lose up to 3 tournaments in single day no matter buy in i will again end session for the day

Conclusion

Im really happy how things are going and looking forward to this journey and sharing it with whoever is interested

Until next time good luck at tables!
