USA Goes to War Against Iran

Time for a dedicated thread to the war.

How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?

If you get rid of the soteriology and christology of Christianity, what exactly are you left with except some religious platitudes?

The advice to do unto others..., don't judge and forgive trespasses. My mom told me that's all that matters after I dropped out (or maybe got kicked out) of Sunday School. Buddha said try it and find out... others say just get in harmony with the Tao. "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah." "As you would have people do to you, do to them; and what you dislike to be done to you, do not do to them." -Prophet Muhammad

If theres a one true religion, that's the essence of it, imo. The rest is commentary and stories.

“The DEAL that we are making with Iran will be FAR BETTER than the JCPOA,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Sounds like he's lowering expectations. Does sound like there's some sort of deal on the table. But the Iranians in total are just as schizo as Trump so who knows.

Whole MAGA schtick:
-break thing
-remake it worse
-claim victory

This latest aside isn't a blockade on talking about the war. But as I said, most of the people left on this board don't want to engage in any substantive talk on the war. They mostly just want to talk about the personal character, play tribal identity politics or whatever, with some just outright trolling.

Lol at asserting that anyone against the war is engaging in tribal identity politics.

Maybe you guys can take your circlejerk to private message?

CYLINDER TALK NEEDS TO BE RESPECTED, TRIBALIST!

by Rococo m

This seems to be a persistent problem.

Thank you, Rococo, for setting the record strait.

Except non-religious worldviews would almost invariably agree with those sentiments as well.

So, believing in the Golden Rule, for example, is not a religious distinctive. The authors of The Humanist Manifesto would hold to those tenets as well.

Religion is a lot more than that.

I didn't know that being against the murder of innocent civilians, including children, was 'tribal identify politics.' Amazin'!

Jesus said other things as well. I just don’t see in what sense it would be β€œChristianity” if you stripped it of the other things. And that’s true for at least Judaism and Islam as well.

It seems like you just agree with me that those religions would be false under a perennial philosophy but had a couple nuggets of truth.

I'm against the war war too. But that doesn't mean I have to be pro IRGC like you and others itt. Nor does it mean I don't want Trump to succeed in halting their uranium enrichment or even better toppling "ya boys" in the IRGC to free the Iranian people.

I thought only Victor was 'pro IRGC.' Can you please name even ONE person other than Victor posting in this thread that could reasonably be called 'pro-IRGC.' Thanks.

That was cute. "I'm against the war, too, but let me give you a bunch of reasons why I'm for the war..."

Trump's Director of Counterterrorism and Director of National Intelligence both said Iran was no threat, yet here you are trying to assert you know better than them.

Trump's back to threatening genocide again, so yeah, save the "free the Iranian people" bullshit. Like always, they are going to destroy the country and leave the people worse off than they were before and inspire more ISIS-like groups.

One has to be ******ed to think Iranian citizens are like, "Oh, hey, bombing our bridges and power plants mean they want freedom for those of us who survive the blasts and ensuing famine."

Maybe, you know, fix the US first before trying to fix other countries? Mistaking pro-US people for being pro-Iran is a you thingy.

Here's some more tribal identity politics - all cued up to 4:30:

Agree. I think religions entail something along the lines of: the Word became flesh or something pointing towards a transcendental reality. But since all religions do that in one way or another, it's not a specific difference between them to say one is better or true and the others false. It's just an essential property of religion that sets it apart from secular morality.

It seems like you just agree with me that those religions would be false under a perennial philosophy but had a couple nuggets of truth.

That's what I meant with:

by John21 m

I'd argue there can logically be at most one Divine Essence, but many religions can point toward it. Perennialism for instance: different maps, same territory. Thomism works too. As related to the thread I don't have an issue with Sufism. Currently reading "Behold the Spirit" by Alan Watts, though.

So what geezerchess is actually claiming is that there can be only one true metaphor, which is false at face value since metaphors aren't subject to truth values.

I think most would agree that not all the stories in the Bible originated within the Judeo-Christian culture.

No, I'm not saying that at all. Just because it's all binary in your mind doesn't make it so. There are plenty of Americans and people throughout the world who were against Trump starting the war but at the same time hope it ends with a de-nuked Iran.

So you want Iran to be what they were before Trump invaded (de-nuked)? Mind blown...

.

A US official said Washington is uncertain who is in charge in Iran as efforts continue to secure a deal and extend the ceasefire, Axios reported on Monday.

“We aren't sure who's in charge and neither do they. That's going to have work itself out," it quoted the official as saying.

“We thought they were negotiating with the right people, they had reached the cocktail of what they had agreed to, what could be announced. But what happened is the Iranian team went back and the IRGC and those kinds of people said ‘oh, no, no. You don't speak for us,’” a second senior administration official said.

“Now they have a real divide over there between these factions and we're not sure who's going to win it. We hope the team we negotiated with will."

My understanding is that when their supreme leader is dead or incapacitated the president along with a chief cleric have the power. The IRGC has issued statements supposedly from Khamenei II but the IRGC has him (or his body) under guard and no one from the government has been in direct contact with him.

Are you saying it's false that there are plenty of people who were opposed to the war but would like to see it end with Iran giving up on their uranium enrichment program? Or do you agree with that?
