Squeeze with QQ?

1/2 in a Texas card room.

UTG raises to 20. Young guy wearing sunglasses, hasn't been at the table long, hasn't gotten out of line. One caller. Button who is trying his best to give away money goes all in for 115. Hero has QQ in SB with 350, UTG covers.

Hero ???

Is a 10x open normal in TX?

Is the BTN fish passive but calling station? Is he opening like 80% of hands pre? Is he 3b crazily and wide? The specific type of fishy play by BTN may inform my ranging of UTG who, by appearance, we are assuming can think a little higher than standard 1/2 player type.

If fish is more passive call station and I am UTG I am opening a tighter range here from UTG with the $20 sizing- TT+, AQs+, AKo and filtering out my Axs I’d typically open. We are still UTG and OOP against most of the field so can’t get too wide compared to when we are IP isolating vs fish.

If fish is raising at a high clip I can see why some may consider a limping range from UTG. Has UTG open limped at all? If he has, can we infer anything about his hand if he opted not to open limp and instead opened 10x? I would weight him stronger.

If fish is 3betting aggressively, then an UTG 10x is an even more peculiar sizing and would give me at least brief pause thinking UTG sizing is major strength.

Given the sizing shove relative to your effective stack it is all-in or fold for me personally. Since you don’t have any specific read on the UTG opponent and his 10x open sizing I jam it all in hoping to isolate the fish on the BTN. Sometimes we run into AA/KK here. I just can’t fold QQ here unless I have a very reliable read that tells me I need to lay it down.

/thread.

I guess I’m greedy and want sunglasses money, so I’m going to call and hope he calls too. Nothing wrong with shipping it, but I think you shut out the guy with the money.

If there was some indication that UTG would call a jam, I would consider it, but it doesn’t seem likely. Going all-in is the easy answer, no more decisions, just see what happens, but UTG will probably fold.

I don’t understand adding or subtracting any weight from a 20 open, as I see that all the time. Sometimes everyone folds & other times 4 people call. I’m not even in Texas.

I personally ship it instead of leaving awkward SPR <1 and potentially allowing AK, JJ to get scared off bad flop. Also if A, K flops am I ever really folding with that SPR but feel kind of sick when it happens. But I can see your perspective.

In terms of my $20 concerns I have never played $1/2, only $1/ and $2/5 for which $30 and $50 respectively never happen in the games I play. If this is standard then I would just range him without taking bet size into account.

Sunglasses are the biggest live tell that the player is a fish, so would heavily lean this towards being like JJ+/AQs/AK for the giant EP open size esp. so if I'd ever seen UTG open limp EP (maybe terrible advice for TX games).

If you don't think that read applies, then probably shrug and shove. I think if you call pre. you kind of have to open shove all flops, and it'll be into a dry side pot.

For the record, 20 is not an out of the ordinary raise pre. Texas is crazy.

I take a deep breath and shove. Ideally UTG folds or we race against AK.

I'm shoving, anything else invites another caller. H is probably a 70/30 fave right now in a pot that is 50- 75% of a buy in. These opportunities don't come around often so don't let it get away with fancy play trying to bait UTG to stay in the pot.

I defo call with AA, KK is a bit read dependent. QQ I ship.

TT/JJ is kinda interesting.

Seems unanimous on ship it.

I did, UTG snapped with KK and held. Runout was J94 T A and somehow crazy button couldn’t best kings on that board.

I really didn’t like all three possibilities. Figured best I could hope for was UTG calling with AK and maybe JJ. Think shipping is slightly +EV but also think there are better spots in these games.

Even better would be if UTG folded AK; you win either way.

If 10x raise isn't out of the ordinary then you absolutely want to play against the button and just calling makes nonsense whatsoever when you have a hand which won't improve. Jam now to get called by JJ, get calls or folds from AK, folds from everything else (ish) and a load of dead money and a hugely profitable situation.

And yes lol @ button not having a hand that wins on that runout
