So, Iran's response to the latest US proposal is....... creation of the Persian Gulf Straight Authority...
It is like Iran is taunting Trump at every turn.
Now the US is retaliating for some attempted attacks on US ships, but it seems they are apologetically responding, claiming that this is not an escalation.
Where did Trump lose his will to finish? Are the Saudi's causing Trump to change his tune from "we will wipe you off the face of the earth and open the damn straight" to...."sorry we have to defend ourselves, and Iran needs more time to consider our latest, latest, latest offer...."
I have no idea what should happen next other to say that the US should have been prepared for this situation when they began the offensive. Closing the straight was one of very few leverage points Iran had.
It is like Trump is frozen, and is looking for the right move, but there is no right move to make......

I won't vote for anyone to the political left of John McCain. If Harris moves significantly to the right, I'd have to problem at all voting for her. With Trump it is no more complicated than the fact that he doesn't know what he is doing, but he does not let that stop him from doing it. Other than that we can speculate about the motivation all day long.
As for Iran, they are tough negotiators and always have been.
The other Gulf states have learned the limits of US ability to project force, at least in this political climate, and the unreliable nature of the corrupt and what 400 million dollar "gifts" can get you. Caveat emptor.

Actually, the key is they dont actually negotiate at all. They just refuse to budge at all and wait for you to move to a position they find acceptable. Worked very well with Obama and the JPCOA. So far not working as well with Trump.

Trump Jr and Eric are backers in a company that builds counter-drone interceptors for the military and has secured a deal with the Pentagon, yet dude would vote for Jr over Harris for reasons he can't put into words. Baffling.
