The PLO-Grind journal: Micros to highstakes
Hi everyone,
I am EmilTheRaccoon.
PLO is the best game out there and I want to become a highstakes crusher.
This thread is inspired by my fellow swiss legend Deeepz.
In this thread I will document my graphs, stats, learning, losses, mental state and everything else you guys are interested in.
I will also share a lot of stuff I find about PLO (concepts, strategy etc.) so if you're a beginner just like me, you can follow along these learning.
Currently I am working a 41h / week so don't expect progress to be too quick. I will try my best to grind and learn as much as I can.
Never done forum posts or daily updates. I need to learn that too.
I will be starting with a BR of $300 on coinpoker and I will use the 100% RB system they have for micros. So I will play PLO5 stakes.
4 and possibly 5 cards.
I am currently away for work and only got my macbook with me. Haven't figured out a way to track hands properly on it so pokerintel has to do for the moment.

I also took a shot at some tournaments on the weekend so I lost the majority of the winnings back.
But I think it's worth it since I am properly rolled for PLO5 and these shots can catapult my BR to the next level.
Only doing this with high GTD tournaments though.
This week I will be playing a lot to get some volume in and also do my study. I am currently working on preflop. I want to have a 85%-90% accuracy for preflop. Here are my study stats.

Good stuff. The lesson post is nice. Keep it up!
Woa thank you! First comment always feels great. Haha!
Glad you found my thread. Hope you enjoy it.
I will write tonight or tomorrow a few new entries. BR update, maybe a new slide deck? we'll see.
What kind of theory / strategy would you be interested in for a slide deck?
This week has been full of variance. I think for the most part I played pretty well. Did some blunders here and there but thats all within my level of expertise I think.
Here are my stats for this week and for the month so far.

This week I felt very inspired and motivated to grind.
The move to PLO5 was the right choice. I can grind without thinking about the money at all. This feels great. The 100% rakeback on coin is also a very well received bonus. To move up in stakes doesn't really make sense because of that.
This weekend I won't be able to play much due to personal obligations.
Next week the focus will be on grinding it out and preflop study - as usual.
Tomorrow I will be flying - at the airport I will try to do the next slide deck with some learnings. Let's see how that goes.
Glgl love a plo5 blog. What stakes are you playing on coin atm? Maybe we have bumped into each other haha. Im a new plo5 player as well
Glgl from a PlO enjoyer.
Do u think plo5 has better ROI than plo4 and why?

Hey there! Nice that you found your way over here!
I am playing PLO$5 4card. Have been putting in some work in plo5card but on coin I tend to miss the plo5card action (or there is none) for lower stakes.
Hope to still see you below my thread and enjoying the content.
Emil
Well I mainly play 4card - but have plenty of hands played with 5cards as well. On the microstakes-end there is too little action for 5card at the moment on coin.
Would love to play more.
I think 5card has more ROI because another card adds complexity and also there is not as much information out there as for 4card.
I like both formats. Currently focusing on 4card because there is more action on the micros and also tournaments run more often for the occasional shottake.

Thanks for the reply.
Hope u make it on coin as the rake there seems to be reasonable and beatable.
Looking forward to the next update. Glgl
New update
haven't been too active - lot's of work and other stuff that I had to take care of.
Still managed to get some tournament exposer and played a few cash games.
Variance was not on my side. Run pretty bad.
I have the habit of making it worse when I run bad instead of playing my best game, need to fix this ASAP - all mental.
I started to play a bit more HU and I want to put more focus on that. I think it's a great way to have a rapid feedback loop.
There are a few more tournaments that I'd like to take a shot at. (I guess there always will be...) Not sure how to handle that.
Start to play pure cash? That's probably the most profitable thing to do.
Anyway - what's to come?
When I am back from my business-travel I will start streaming. The stream will bring me consistency and also will hold me accountable.
There will be a BR challenge (whatever BR I have when I start streaming - probably around a few hundred bucks) to first 4 figures, then 5.
Also it's study time - need more solver work. Starting today with that.
Haven't been able to invest enough time for a new slide deck. Will think about something over this weekend. Maybe - because my theory knowledge is not as great as I want it to be I will make a slide deck about how to improve the mental game.
We'll see... Lot's planned - now I have to actually do it.
As I know you guys love stats. Here is my poker intel.
Running cold:

This month:

Last 7 days:

Today I played my worst session so far. I think I lost around 20 BI's lol.
Not sure what happened. Felt like I was playing decent but missed pretty much every board, the few I hit I couldn't get value out of and when I had less than nuts or a bluff, people showed up with top of range.
Also I played way too many tables. Played 3 HU tables and 3 6max. That was way too much. Need to chill and take a step back. Focus and make the right decisions. Not autoplay.
Before I would be very demotivated after such a session. But I geniunly enjoyed the ride and I am eager to learn.
If you're properly rolled for the stakes you play, variance is much easier to handle. hehe
Oh well. Will play some more later today. Let's see how that goes lmao
