Ballgame

Was just waiting to make my appearance b/c I knew the game would end seconds later. Wanted you guys to enjoy a bit more OT

I've watched enough hockey to know it's only a matter of time before Buffalo wins or not clutch anti jynx

Newhook another Game 7 winner, this Fn guy

Must suck being a goalie that went through like 4 legs and 3 sticks.

Dobes 6-0 after a loss, NOBODY beats Dobby 2x in a row (please don't revisit this comment during Carolina series)

How did housenuts get banned?

it was a 24 ban afaik for politics posting, felt pretty ool from the mod imo but coordi's usually very reasonable

he trolls them pretty hard and they really can't stand it

If you had told me Habs top line would be this poor, then I would have guessed that TB won in a sweep. For much of the season, it was only this line ever scoring, now they're the worst regular line in the playoffs (min. 60 minutes) and Habs are still gutting out wins. Obviously they'll need to show up big to have any chance vs. Carolina.

yeah, them luckboxing into the conference final when their worst 5v5 players have been (from the bottom) texier, anderson, suzuki, caufield, matheson, danault, dobson and slafkovsky is the most playoff habs thing ever

can't even credit the 13 powerplay goals when they've given up 14 on the pk. the habs never make any sense lol

Carolina is -265 for the series, value play Is Habs again?

They did sweep the season series 3-0 outscoring Carolina 15-8. Habs tend to do better against smaller teams as well so the Suzuki line will probably have an easier go of it.

Of course, Carolina is playing very well, have played 6 fewer playoff games, and got a nice long break, so another grueling series would probably favor them in later games.

I was surprised to see Carolina as bigger favorites than the Avs. Maybe Vegas is docking Montreal for all the extra games played.

Our top line is right there with them haha. It'll be interesting to see how both play in the series.

Our 2nd line has been insane.

I'll be at game 1. Should be a blast.

Our 2nd line has been insane.

Your 2nd line will be a big key. Habs can usually take away 1 line, but then 2nd line could feast.

That's awesome, have fun!

by 72off m

if the habs scored on that breakaway you woulda had em right where you wanted

At least I was able to watch the game and not think it was over just because it was 2-0. Gut punch in OT but what a fun ride.

Rooting for Habs now (ugh)

wooooooooooooooooooo

couldn't celebrate yesterday cause got a temp ban.

Habs sucked once up 2-0. Played reasonably again once it was 2-2. We gotta be better with the lead.

Housenuts!

Stop being naughty, some of us come here for your Montreal posts, lol.

your ban was something

If you like Carolina, wait to bet them until after they (maybe?) lose Game 1.

If you like Carolina, wait to bet them until after they (maybe?) lose Game 1.

yeah the history of winning game one after such a long break does not favor them

i have hopes that now that it's so much better known and studied that the team has been doing stuff to better negate that disadvantage

Lol no just 24h

History not favoring CAR

How many of those teams had two straight sweeps?

Funny that we’re responsible for two of the wins.
Dan Szymborski culled the historical database for every matchup in playoff history where one team had a layoff of four or more days while their opponent had a layoff of two or fewer days [...] There have been 35 of these games in baseball history. The team with more rest has gone 24-11 in them. Dan also predicted the winner of each of these games based on the team’s seasonal record. From each team’s record, you’d expect the rested teams to go 19-16

Baseball is a game of repetition, and these guys play every single day. Hockey can be an issue with the physicality and the goaltenders getting too much time off. Basketball is different than both of those stylistically as a sport. So what does the data say? Do teams with extra rest come out sloppy in Game 1? The overall verdict? Not really.
couldn't find any evidence as it pertains to hockey, but i would imagine that the results are similar. i doubt that the long layoff will negatively affect the canes, either in game 1 or for the series. if the market thinks otherwise, i'd bet against.

edit:
Rest is beating rust so far in the NHL playoffs. The teams that have two or more days of time off than their opponent are 5-1 in series openers.
this was just from 1 season, but i suspect a larger study would also show that rest isn't disadvantageous
