JJ in early stages facing cold 4bet

JJ in early stages facing cold 4bet

MTT early stages, 40 min of late reg remain.

We've built a 100bb stack, top 20% of the field.

6bb short stack in LJ open jams.

Folds to hero in BU with JJ, 3bets to 13bb.

Tight player in SB cold 4bet jams for 75bb.

Hero makes tight fold to preserve stack.

Bad?

Is this live or online? What stakes? If it’s a low stakes live tourney, then the range for a cold 4bet jam for 75 bb vs a covering stack is KK+ and maybe not even KK. For a higher stakes tourney, your call, rather than an iso jam might show weakness to a strong player who understands that his 75bb jam will give him tons of fold equity. In such a case, his range might be wider and include AK, AQ type hands plus still, of course pairs larger than jacks. Does a strong player shove 75bb with TT? Idk, but I kind of doubt it. I’d still lean fold in such a situation, but it’s less clear.

Online for small stakes, well that’s a crapshoot. You have some really bad players whose only poker experience is watching big tourneys on tv. They don’t understand the difference between an open jam for 10BB in later stages with 88 and a cold 4bet jam early for 75bb with the same hand. They see “pro goes all in with 88, so I should too”. In that spot, I might find a call (especially if you’ve seen villain make some questionable plays already).

I don't think we should be jamming 100BB over a 6BB jam with any hand.

Good point. Ignore that part. I somehow misread the hand history and thought hero called the 3!. Since he did in fact iso raise, that part of my post is not particularly relevant. It’s most likely a fold unless you’re playing a low stakes online tourney where someone might do the spaz jam with a small/medium pair.

Easy fold. No need to risk your remaining 87BB stack on a hand where you are at best a flip against the 4-bet jam range. The isolation 3-bet seems fine as you are usually in good shape vs. short stack's range and risk of 6BB is worth it. But I fold 100% to the re-shove unless I have a very specific and confident read/history on the villain -- and even then I probably fold most of the time.

Thoughts on 3b size over a 6bb shove with 100bb behind and a 75bb stack behind us?

Fold fine

Expect to see SB Aq+ 99+ but weighted to QQ+ AK

Fold is good.

I was thinking about a size that isolated and that it didn't need to be too big because 13bb probably discourages cold callers the same as 15 or 18bb. I probably could have gone even smaller tbh.

(for the results oriented: cold 4bettor had AK, utg had A6... hero would have held for chip lead).

I expect the cold 4bet jam for 75bb to be QQ+, AK; I expect UTG's range to have a lot of Ax which removes some AK combos from the 4bettor -- but I'm just guessing obv.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I think OK in live mtt
