Dropped Stakes--- still just a beginner

Howdy... I started at 10NL and realized I should just drop it to 2NL and keep the study meter running.

I'm doing fairly well at this level, doing about 35bb/100 ( if that's actually good?). Where I get caught, is they just don't fold. I had KK, cracked by AJo on the river with all in post flop -no J either- all sorts of other hands, too. Plus the hands where I should recognize that I'm beaten and hang around to showdown.

I'll still work at this level, but I'm wondering if 5NL is much different. Do people actually play better at that level?

Thanks!

35bb/100 is a good win rate at any level, but I highly doubt you could maintain it at higher stakes. The hand you posted is an example of why you can get that win rate at 2NL - players are generally bad. We have a tendency to remember the times when a stupid play cost us a big pot. We forget that there were many more times when a similarly dumb play allowed us to stack someone. You are winning 35bb/100 precisely because people are making plays like you describe.

Moving up in stakes to play better opponents is not going to help your win rate. It amazes me when people think “I can’t beat these players because they’re idiots; I’d do better against good players”. Honestly that’s absurd. However, 5NL players are only marginally better than 2NL players, so if you’re winning 35bb/100 you should do fine at 5NL (assuming you are properly bankrolled). Probably you won’t win 35bb/100 but you don’t have to. You’d make more actual money if your win rate is at least 14bb/100.

35/100bb over how many hands?

That 35bb/100 was with 1200 hands. I'm now over 12, 000 hands and I'm at -4bb/100. Still playing 2NL. Really starting to see where I need work. --- And it's STILL mostly, not believing when the whales/fishy types have me beaten.
