Ready to put a gun to my head with micro manager boss
overall background. I am a 60 year old electrical engineer who for the past 30 years has worked on the sales side as either a field applications engineer, regional sales manager, business development manager, or similar in the electronics world. We are talking memory, power, connectors, etcetera.
A year ago I took a job with a low end distributor because I needed income and I went to work for a friend of mine who I knew would not bust my balls and then if I worked hard it would be a cruise to retirement even though it wouldn't be a lot of money.
Three months ago he leaves for a better job and his replacement is a micromanaging ball Buster. The biggest problem is trying to get live customer appointments. Not teams, not phone calls. He wants 6 per week period
he just came over from a much larger distributor where they had a line card with real door opening companies like Intel TI etcetera and we are here at a crummy distributor whose most important vendors are Amphenol and cannon as connector lines.
In addition he resides in Philadelphia and has no knowledge of the Boston marketplace which is where I am. He handles both Philly and Boston as his territory. The Philly branch has been very consistent for the past 15 years whereas the New Hampshire branch was completely disbanded about 10 years ago and reinstated for five years where is apparent that many of the contacts and continuities that existed here no longer do exist and we are trying to rebuild it. A year ago there were seven or eight people here in the branch and now there are two due to the chaos created before my current micromanager got here four months ago.
He wants to know why we can't get in person visits when the guy in Long Island who has been here in a solid branch for 14 years and get more than enough. How do I go about showing him that is completely different situation?
