summer getaway to the 702: TR 5/31 - 6/4

it's my second Vegas trip of 2026. This one was unplanned, maybe even unnecessary. expected to wait until November, but

BTW, I would have guessed that it was a fried bean enchilada or something. +1 to grilling the muffin!

returned yesterday and I cannot remember a thing about the first two days. and I don't even drink. glad I kept this for a journal

got a mailer today for Palms promoting their July giveaways which are like an ice cream maker and backyard game equipment. so I guess my new frying pan isn't too weird

my favorite cash games are definitely Venetian 2/3 and Mandalay Bay 1/2. and favorite for tournaments is definitely Wynn (skipped this time). don't feel much of an urge to branch out beyond.

reached my goal of only using 8 hours of PTO for my four day trip and managed to play over 17 hours of poker across four sessions. took advantage of freeplay to win over $100 and $40 dining credit.

came home only down about $250 cash what I started with, and that's including punting like $200 in slots waiting for the buffet dinner, and going from $300 to $600 to $240 my last poker game (so if I really wanted to I could have coasted to a winning line). working dealing a couple poker tournaments at home this weekend to make up the little difference. so no financial setback, we'll call that a win.
I was happy with my poker playing. felt comfortable the whole time and don't have any regrets. kinda have an itch to play some more.

ate at: KYU, Serrano Vista Cafe, Grand Lux, Blueberry Hill, Miami Slice, In N Out, Send Noodles, and Palms AYCE Buffet. due to consuming very few veggies, my dinner at home Thur & Fri was primarily a whole cabbage. learned that my dog likes cabbage too.

didn't "hate" Palms; the Fantasy Tower Rooms are very nice. but overall just had too many negative aspects. the buffet was a total letdown. and their pizza spot costs more than FB's (and doubt it's as good). wouldn't pay normal hotel price to stay there again; in fact, prefer Treasure Island and maybe even Luxor.

if it wasn't clear, I really like Fontainebleu. wish I could have had more time there. will try to return anytime i get another good offer.

still love Vegas.

Great TR-glad you could make it out to Vegas again. I’ve never stayed at either Fountain Bleau or the Palms, so it’s very insightful reading about your experiences at those properties.

I know that you only played poker at 2 properties, but did you notice any impact from the start of the WSOP on waitlists or quality of play?

sorry I haven't logged in for a while to see your question. as you said I only played at two places twice. I called ahead (or registered on poker atlas) all four time and never had to wait. at Venetian it seemed the 2/3 games always had a seat available (or they were short a player). the two places were more impacted by the large Cisco conference than the WSOP. conferencers seemed to be smart, skilled, and rich (loose). probably not very helpful info, I did not check out Wynn or Bellagio (or Horseshoe) and those places are usually very busy with long lists this time of year. I intentionally avoided the WSOP rush and crowd. but I still had a great time playing poker.

got an email offering 2 comp nights at Fontainebleu, now thru Nov 4. even has one weekend available (end of Aug). book by 8/4. hard for me to stay away when they keep that up. didn't even play a whole lot there last time, a few hours of pai gow and 49 tier credits of slots.
Red Rock also offering 2 comp nights thru Aug, also Palms. that's 6 free hotel nights.
getting easier to justify a third 2026 trip, especially with holding a remote job.

Me and my brother visited Fontainbleau for the first time this summer for an hour, and I cycled through a few hundred dollars in wagering on a Video Poker machine.

That was enough for them to send me an email with free nights (two complimentary nights during weekdays), book by same day as you mentioned above. Strongly considering taking them up on this offer, and pretty cool that they are this generous (read: struggles with traffic) to someone who in reality wagered for maybe $5-$600 USD at most.

Not a prefect location but the property looked very bright and inviting, and with the new Zoox-stop it's possible to get some free rides all over The Strip from there.

Dayum, maybe I should try to remember to play at Red Rock a little next time I go. I like that place.

you do

Oh well, makes it much less likely for me to visit, since they charge for parking.

just told my wife I am coming back to Vegas end of August. I already have 7 hotel room nights booked for total $127 (subject to change if any September offers come), rental car reserved for like $164, and I'm ready to book my flight for like $200 roundtrip.

so much for no trips before November, this will be my second one.
