What's more damning is that LA voters are so stupid and tribal they wouldn't sweep out the clearly corrupt and sociopathic trash that's infested the Democrat party because of uniparty politics. Not that Spencer Pratt was a viable alternative, but still. Decades of uniparty rule (on either side) is far more harmful than even the worst of the Repbulicans.

Blacks are tribal. If there is a black candidate that is who blacks will vote for. But blacks are actually not a big population in So Cal. They are 10% of LA City itself, and not a significant demographic in the vast majority of suburbs.

Other than that I would say LA voters are generally not interested in politics at all, which is typical of 1st generation Hispanic working class immigrant communities. You are all severely underestimating how much activists going through neighborhoods telling people who to vote for determine how people vote.

This is something general about California show no ID mail in political culture you probably dont see in other places. For example, if you go to a shopping center on any random day around election time, there will be someone sitting outside the store with a clipboard asking you to vote for something. And they dont even really want to tell you what you are voting for. They just want your to fill out the form as you walk by*.

*This type of activist behavior generally skews left, but not entirely. Although they dont go through neighborhoods like left wingers do, plenty of right wing canvasers sit outside stores trying to get you to sign the conservative side of an issue. Generally the rule is if it is a Boomer white guy sitting outside a store it is a right wing guy, and if anything else (female, minority, younger, etc.) it is going to be left wing.

The fact is though lets say you are correct that Pratt it a laughable candidate what would you classify Karen Bass as ? Competent?

It's quite telling that almost 2/3rds of the voters voted AGAINST incumbent Bass.

The fact is though let's say bottom line for all intensive purposes do or die bases loaded 30 seconds left down by 3 wickets 4th quarter I don't not think you have the processing power to gauge her competence.

by StoppedRainingMen

LA republicans ran some halfwit from the hills cuz bigly trump vibes and you assume this means there’s no way he can beat a wildly unpopular candidate in a majority democrat city except cheating

Get ****ed

Pratt would clearly lose the general even if the voting was 100% fair.

But Raman herself gave a tearful de-facto concession speech on election night.

And some newspapers a day or two day after the election (e.g. the Mercury News) ran headlines like 'Bass and Pratt Heading Toward Likely Runoff.'

In other words, you're not going to answer the question and personally attack the questioner instead. Very Trumpish of you!!

Yes, I understand in ya'lls culture it's some god given right to be taken seriously when questioning other people's competence regardless of whether you can even articulate the queries sensically.

mf posting multiple times about others' "processing power" and "competence" and "dumb white welfare Trump rurals" and even asking if someone "can even articulate the queries sensically"... while at the same time writing "intensive purposes"

That's just picture perfect. Very, very well done.

I realize I ain't no English major, but even an old, dumb white rube like me can figure out what Lozen is asking. Kinda surprised you can't figure it out, but maybe you have a learning disability we don't know about and if so we all understand.

Here's my translation of Lozen's question: Do you classify Karen Bass as a competent mayor?

Hope that helps!!

Geezer you seem like a reasonable guy - I wouldn't waste my time jousting with the ******s on here. Lozen asked a fair question but these guys are so far left if there's any chance their response will say a Dem is incompetent they type up nonsense to dodge the question. Anyone with half a brain would agree Karen Bass did not handle the wildfires correctly nor is doing a good job and should be replaced. If you don't agree with that sentiment, you're an idiot.

I would gauge competency on how I live by daily life in a city as it pertains to property taxes, crime, permits, homelessness , police and fire services, road maintenance, safety.

We keep on hearing a reality star wants to become mayor he is an idiot yet we praise the leader of the Ukraine who was a comedian with no political experience

For some reason leftist tankies like E-c can't bring themselves to criticize any Dem, even an incompetent like Bass, unless it's accompanied by ridiculing righties. (Of course, right-wing tankies do the same thing.)

The Young Turks Ana Kasparian (who is a non-tankie leftist) said she voted for Bass, but also acknowledged Bass' many failings as mayor. For Ana, voting for Bass was a 'lesser of three evils' moment.

Pratt even admitted upon entering the mayor's race he did so primarily for personal reasons. He said he was running because "Bass burned my house down." He also was mourning the death of a neighbor who died in the fire.

Blacks are tribal. If there is a black candidate that is who blacks will vote for.

**** off, Crusader. I'm sure you looked up all the data on this issue in a sober and dispassionate manner and are coming here merely to present this information in a humble manner. Meanwhile, there are many instances of the black voter block preferring a non-black candidate to a black one, such as when Joe Biden (whose political career got started by opposing busing) crushed known black people Kamala Harris and Cory Booker among black voters in the 2020 Democratic primary (even relative to other racial groups).

If you were to actually spend some time looking this up, you'd see that black people disproportionately choose to not vote AND disproportionately have their votes suppressed. I know Dunyain is way too scared of "blacks" to interact with them regularly, so let me inform him that I have spoken with numerous black people on this issue and have heard multiple versions of "Republicans, Democrats, whatever, neither party speaks to my issues and my life remains the same regardless of which party is in power, so what's the point?" Every time I respond "wow, enough with the tribalism already!"

Back to the comments section of Captive Dreamer's Twitter page with you. You're missing out on some sick memes insulting this massive population group that thoroughly terrifies you.

Anybody who is "far left" hates the Democratic Party with a fiery passion. We think, much like you, that Dems are incompetent (albeit for different reasons), and furthermore, we think they're EVIL.

keep this in mind the next time you don't want to look like a moron

So something very hard for us to do in a city where neither of us presumably live. Of course LA is 1000X times better than any super conservative area. But it should be based on extreme white rural culture and I'm not giving Bass any credit for that.

by geezerchess

leftist tankies like E-c .

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The guy is literally a centrist Democratic. Holy ****. Yeah, classic Leninist E-C, constantly going on about how poor people should be thrown off a bridge. Good lord. Also, there's no such thing as a right-wing tankie. A tankie is an authoritarian Communist, not a synonym for extremist.

I get your point, but I'm not sure bringing up Biden is the best way to make it. Much of Biden's support among black folks was because he was President Obama's VP.

And Harris dropped out before any of the primaries iirc. (I believe she dropped out after the Iowa Caucus, but maybe she was still in for New Hampshire which has very few black voters.)

Probably gets more complicated when there are multiple candidates.

I stand corrected. E-C is a middle-of-the-road Dem well-known for supporting establishment Dems like Hillary.

I think 'tankie' has morphed into a synonym for 'in the tank for..." I could be wrong though.

If you were to actually spend some time looking this up, you'd see that black people disproportionately choose to not vote AND disproportionately have their votes suppressed.

This combination is deeply amusing.

As for vote suppression, the opposite is true...packing seems to win over cracking in blacks having disproportionately more candidates of their choice. Incidentally, there's an excellent sociology paper title in there. "Packing and Not Cracking: The Realities of the African American Vote in America" - that's a joke about girth and having good skin at old age before anyone gets uppity about it.

I know Dunyain is way too scared of "blacks" to interact with them regularly, so let me inform him that I have spoken with numerous black people on this issue and have heard multiple versions of "Republicans, Democrats, whatever, neither party speaks to my issues and my life remains the same regardless of which party is in power, so what's the point?" It's hard to argue they tried Republicans when 90% vote Dem and majority black cities are nearly all Democrat (and also where they do the worst).

Lol Ok. you're really starting to concern me. You brought up LA reading proficiency metrics seemingly unprompted..... did you really not notice something peculiar about the construction of that sentence? In response to a clear solecism ie "the fact is lets say"

The fact is though let's say bottom line for all intensive purposes do or die bases loaded 30 seconds left down by 3 wickets 4th quarter

Like just maybe there might be some other malaprops there.... so many in such an unnecessary preamble that maybe it was all intentional? I know I know extreme white rural ultra conservatives don't have access to the integers or whatever else growing up and that's why they end up how they do.
