The takeover of media by right wing oligarchs
I feel like this should be its own thread now. One by one, the media giants are being swallowed up by the likes of Ellison.
I just saw where FOX has just purchased Roku.
Here's where we stand now.
Meta(Facebook) - Zuckerburg - which includes Instagram
Washington Post - Bezos
Rupert Murdoch owns Fox, and as I mentioned, will soon own Roku.
As well as:
News Corp (Publishing and Digital Real Estate)
This entity controls the family's massive newspaper, book publishing, and digital service holdings.
United States: The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, Dow Jones, and Barron's.
United Kingdom: The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, and the Wireless Group (which operates TalkSPORT and Virgin Radio).
Australia: The Herald Sun, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, and a majority stake in REA Group (which operates realestate.com.au).
Publishing: HarperCollins Publishers.
But the big one is David and Larry Ellison, far right fascists who own the following
CBS - Which they are in the process of turning into another FOX.
In fact, I just googled what they will be owning via warner brothers

Streaming Giants: The combination of Paramount+ and Max (formerly HBO Max), creating a combined base of roughly 200 million subscribers.
TikTok (U.S. Operations): Oracle, led by Larry Ellison, holds a major 45% stake in the consortium controlling TikTok’s U.S. infrastructure.
There are others, like Newsmax, Washington Examiner, etc. Probably too many to mention.
So, we are barrelling towards a world where our information will only come through far right wing oligarchs.

Bigger this happened in 1922.
Yeah, everything is exactly the same as it was in 1922 so shutup everybody.
When did Roku become a major source of news?
On the European political spectrum, you are correct. On the American spectrum she was certainly at least left-of-center.
She is an agent of the oligarchy.
We have two party establishments. Economically one is far right and the other is farther right.
Yes ... it is technically true that far right is left of farther right. But let's stop the nonsense about claims of anything resembling an authentic left.
huge if true. I wonder what could have possibly motivated all the rich right wingers to buy all the cringy dying left wing media. Probably because they ruined star wars!
no? don't really care cnn? If were talking news media I don't pay attention. im sure the right is buying things up like twitter. but that's because they had no voice in main stream media. and well rich people are more likely to be right wing.... outside of ownership its all left wing still id imagine. Hollywood and entertainment very left! I think its just a problem with all rich people being center or center right. wcyd? The creatives who run the show are on your side. I feel like its always been like this. Theres not too many billionaire left wingers.
Ultimately everyone just echo chambers what they want now so it doesn't really matter who owns more media
While this influence is certainly part of the issue, it is not the sole issue.
Reactionary modern "conservatism" is selling well and polling well across the globe, aided in no small part in how good a fit it is for social media algorithms. A fractured opposition is convinced the main problem is their shitty politicians, while ignoring that this phenomenon is giving birth to some of the shittiest and most incompetent politicians to hold public office we have seen for almost a century.
So yes, these people are buying a lot of crap that they weaponize, but what they make with it sells well.
I think this modern reactionary movement is good at exploiting a perceived lack of civic unity, stability and patriotism, and then repackaging it into soundbites that fit the era of TikTok very well. The bad part (in my view) is the party-first message they sell with it, which does nothing to fix the problems they exploit, but divides us even harder instead.
The reality is that we never been as unified as the postcard-version of our countries would make it out to be, and nor is this the gigantic problem it is often made out to be. Standing miles apart is fine, hating each-other is not.
Whether it’s right wing oligarchs or left wing ideologues, it’s going to be half-truths and emotional manipulation either way.
