I'm sure she was originally going for the ball. But once she saw the ball was away there is zero reason she makes a fist and puts it into Caitlin's throat and knees her like you said.
Stephanie White just spoke at the press conference and said this play was egregious. But also said that in general Caitlin is being treated unfairly by the refs. Paraphrasing... that there is one set of rules for others in the league and another for Caitlin. Thank you coach White for finally standing up for Caitlin. Still should have been stronger though, but at least she had her back.

Jason Whitlock is kind of a crank but he has been posting a lot about Caitlin Clarke on twitter. He is completely convinced that CC wasn't hurt, but that she and Steph got into it during the game and CC quit.
I don't know what flavor Koolaid you'd have to drink to get on his level but it's not my kind of beverage anyway.

I don't have a final opinion on whether she's hurt or if Stephanie White benched her after an argument like she did the last time they had words on the bench. Then either Caitlin got fed up and left. Or she was sent to the showers/permantly benched for the game.
I've seen footage that fit both arguments. 1st argument that it was her back. There is video showing Caitlin grab her back after Ayayi recklessly closed out on Caitlin's 3 pointer. So i lean towards this argument but not strongly. Here's why...
2nd argumnet- Caitlin had just thrown a turnover trying to fit it into a tight window pass in the lane. It got picked off for a fast break and Caitlin was the last defender and looked to be jogging(she wasn't jogging but could be interpreted that way) and she didn't try to stop the player from going in for a layup. Whch is understandable imo as she woulda just picked up another foul and said player probably scores anyway. But all this happeneing could have sent Stephanie White off and immediately benched Caitlin. Once again embarrasseing Caitlin like the last time she benched her for Raven. So maybe Caitlin said i'm tired of this nonsense. If you bench me and embarrass me a second time well i'm out see how you do without me and left. Or Stephanie White just permantly benched Caitlin and said you're done for tonight because she was so mad.
What gives credence to the 2nd argument is we have history of the benching and emabarrassing from before. But the biggest thing that gives it credence is that there is video showing what went down when they got to the bench. Caitlin sat down on the bench with the team like she was ready to get back in the game. Then you see assistant coach January go over to Caitlin and say something and Caitlin gets up off the bench and stands. Then the team does there team huddle and put hands together is solidarity. You can see Caitlin not looking happy and very disilusioned and half-heartedly join in. But it looks like she didn't even touch hands and just put her hand out then immediately walked to the locker room looking very disheartened.
So i don't know. Knowing this team all theories are on the table and all have credence with past history to say that any of them could be true. I'd slightly lean to she hurt her back for now but i need to see and hear more before making a final decision. After Caitlin supposedly may have hurt her back she looked fine after that and was playing great. So makes you wonder. This team can't get away from drama lol. It's fun trying to figure out whose lying and whose telling the truth. I feel like an investigator Sherlock Holmes trying to solve the mysteries each game with this team. WE NEED A SOPHIE MEME! Lol.
I just hope Caitlin's ok. Hurt, or not, i bet we don't see her on saturday. Then they have like a week or more off so we won't see Caitlin on the court for 10 days to 2 weeks minimum. Sad. I think the way she's been playing the last few weeks she deserves to be in 1st on mvp chances currently.
Also adding to the theory it was a benching is why wasn't there an immediate response to where's Caitlin from the announcers/reporters? Meaning the reporters must have went to the coaches and asked them is she injured and they didn't get a repsonse obviously. Otherwise why wasn't it reported right away that Caitlin went to the locker room for an injury and we don't know if she's coming back or not yet. Or she is done for the night due to injury. It was a long time for a report as it seemed a mystery to the announcers and reporters until sometime in the 4th quarter when they finally told us why we didn't see Caitlin on the bench or in the game.
Btw once again all these theories wouldn't exist if Caitlin comes out right away to tell us what happened? Just like last time she says nothing to let it fester, then days later answers questions and says paraphrasing.... you all read to much into thing. Nobody knows what they're talking about. And that's probably what's going to happen again this time. But why does she let it fester? Is it because there is more to it and she's deciding if she should tell everyone how she really feels? Then gets talked down and given a speech to say to reporters to make it look like there's nothing to see here.

This has been happening in every aspect of Caitlin Clarke in the wnba. Players yell at refs all the time. Coaches go into tirades into refs all the time. Breanna Stewart was screaming at her assistant coach this year in the game against the Fever. Taurasi allegedly asked a ref to step outside or meet her in the parking lot after the game i think they said. They show and tell us all this but then give the players and coaches the awesome narrative of.... These players are just great competitors and have high basketball iq so they are just trying to explain to these people what actually happened. We're lucky to have these greats to show us how it should be done.
Then Caitlin gets screamed at and benched for the rookie by her coach to embarrass her. Caitlin says i put my hands up like you siad i should do. Narrative..... Caitlin Calrk is a spoiled petulant child that needs a timeout. Go sit in the corner and learn from your mistakes. How dare you talk back to your coach. Your not bigger than the coach, the team, or the organization. Let this coach teach you how to be a grown up, and how to play basketball! And how dare you Caitlin Clark complain to refs!!! Stop whining and play basketball you spoiled child! Learn to play defense and they won't call fouls on you. Oh there's video showing you didn't touch the player they said you fouled? No comment, now let's get back to what's wrong with you Caitlin!
So all these players that you would think would be very disliked by fans are seen as classy superstars. This while Caitlin is seen as a smug, spoiled child that is unlikebale.
Btw i'm ok with the coaches and players complaining to the refs. I just want their to be consistency. That Caitlin is doing the same thing as all those coaches and players are doing. So she shoudln't be singled out like the bad guy or girl in this case. While the others are seen as heroes and applauded for their competitive spirit.
Btw another point in favor that it was a benching is why did Caitlin go to the bench in the first place if she was hurt? That normal protocol for players when hurt immediately leave the court with their trainer. Hmmm?????

I watched the highlights. She was on a heater to end all heaters. She took and made a couple of threes that were so tough that I can't imagine she would have expected to make them more than 10% of the time.
