The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

No ones having a meltdown were just discussing how stupid Pride Month is . I have no interest in attending a gay parade though I cant say I have attended a parade since I was 10 at Klondike Days

I don't care for attending parades in person. I might watch ten minutes of the Rose Parade on New Year's Day.

Then ignore it. There is zero need to go on these ****ing internet rants about how stupid you think pride is. For some people these things matter. It isn't everyone. It clearly isn't you. That's ok. If someone else is able to feel more connected to their community then great, you don't have to enjoy it or participant in it - but can you try to not whine about it so much?

Lotsa luck with that!!

That said, folks can celebrate anything they want anytime they want for as long as they want. (At least in America; that may not be true in the People's Republic of Canada.)

Some folks celebrate White History Month (March). Not sure when Heterosexual Pride Month is, though.

I literally forgot it was pride month until you folks started whining about it. It's the easiest thing to ignore ever.

But thanks for reminding me. I have a large social media following, I'll make sure to make some LGBT themed content in my niche early next week. I'll even wear my rainbow T-shirt that always generates hate comments.

Probably depends where you live and/or where you go and/or what streaming sites you visit. If one stays put in a monastery or a convent without access to any media whatsoever it's easy to ignore for sure.

You omitted the whole second half of the acronym. It's 2026, not 2006 my friend! Which is okay, because even if one remembers the whole acronym it can be a task trying to remember what all the letters mean anyway.

I suspect nobody is going to believe that. (Unless you're joking about having a 'large social media following')

unlike some ITT I don't exactly obsess about LGBT people day in and day out. And no, I'm not joking.

2006 wants their 'LGBT' back!

You people sure do obsess over other people's nomenclature huh!

IRONY ALERT!!!

All seriousness aside (as the late, great Steve Allen used to say), I enjoy your lighthearted attitude toward this stuff.

Teach is just lying, as per usual. I guarantee you 1 thing, unless he lives in the middle of bum**** nowhere, it's impossible to ''forget'' it's pride month in any Canadian city.

I was in Provincetown Massachusetts either 2024 or 2023, we went there the day they had a gay parade, had no idea it was going on. They had this giant march down Commercial street with people dressed up and what not. It was honestly a ton of fun. My oldest was 4 at the time and there were these 5 giant dudes, I'm assuming gays, dressed up as playdough. Best day of my son's life.

I don’t know what to tell you guys, the sight of a few pride flags doesn’t feel me with rage so they don’t exactly stand out. Like I have a pride flag on my office door, I see it every day, I just don’t think about it. I think my town might have added some down the main drag. If there is more about the city, I haven’t paid attention.

What if the school told you everyone must have a pride flag on their office door ?

Do you feel that a MLB ballplayer being forced to wear pride clothing has the right to write a bible verse on his hat like John3:16

I don't care what the MLB does? I get it, some of you obsess over american culture war BS and every utterance and word choice is fed through the lens of which side you are on the latest culture war debate.

I put a pride flag on my office door because I have thousands of students and I want them to feel welcomed and comfortable coming to talk to me about math, and about the various learning challenges they are experiencing so I can maybe help. That is the kind of thing I focus on.

Are you really suggesting that university students feel less welcome when a professor doesn't have a pride flag on his/her/their/them door?

You focus on nonsense.

I don't think that necessarily follows at all. I do a lot of things to try and make students feel welcome and comfortable. Others do different sets of things. That's fine. I think there are multiple ways to do a good job, I'm just mentioning one tiny detail that I personally do that is an aside to the current conversation.

Nonsense. I don't care about MLB, have not read more than a headline about this story, I don't know how else to say it, I don't care. I get that you are really, really invested in every culture war thing that comes by but I'm not obligated to give you my hot take on each new twist and turn of it. That isn't disingenuous. That isn't avoiding simple questions. It's choosing not to engage with a specific new thread. I absolutely fairly respond to any meaningful critique of a position I'm actually debating ITT - something you utterly fail to do regularly - and if there is something I've discarded as irrelevant that you think is crucially important let me know. But don't confuse that intellectual honesty with an obligation to follow you down every twist and turn.

Reality is make sure you list your pronouns on any paper for professor Uke if you want a good grade extra credit if your pronouns are they/them

I once had a really powerful moment. I had a trans student who came to my office. We'd talked several times about math and learning and I was doing my best to support them in some academic struggles of the time. But this one time they decided to share their actual name with me which was different from my class list. You could tell it was a big deal for them in the moment, and they were quite vulnerable about it and eyes welled up, I think they hadn't told a lot of people. I know at their retail job they didn't use that name, for instance. I really treasured that moment that this student felt comfortable enough to share that with me.

I don't know if having a rainbow flag made a difference. I try to be welcoming in many ways and a human connection trumps all. But maybe it made a bit of a difference. And if so, I don't really see why laughing at it is quite the take you think it is.

I don't think you can ever accuse someone else of being a disingenuous poster ever again after BS like this bud. Can you like try and keep your critiques like at least somewhat grounded in reality?

Sounds like you're trying to be a therapist with math as a side gig. It's weird.

Yes, supporting student through the many challenges they face can indeed feel a bit like therapy sometimes. I don’t think this is an uncommon feeling for teachers to have.

Looks like Poilievre is refusing to attend a pride event this year. As before. You guys will be so pleased.
