What golf gear did you buy today?
Couldn't find a thread like this. If there is one, i apologise. But thought it would be interesting to see.
They had a bin full of range finders that I assume people lost, in the clubhouse today for $40 each. Google says this one retailed for $200. I guess it's an older model I gave it a test run before I bought it. Works fine. Decent deal imo.
I have a Callaway rangefinder that looks just like that and it works pretty good except that it has trouble for objects once you get out past ~250 yds. A cluster of trees or bushes it can get at that distance. To be sure, it might be a slightly older model.
Pro tip, always store your clubs inside. Extreme heat or cold, especially for long periods of time will flat out ruin them. Never just leave them in your trunk or garage.
Picked up the AI-Jailbird cruiser DB putter. I don't play or practice nearly as much as I used to, hoping the length and weight on the putter will help with stroke consistency.
Completely turned my bag over this year. Started with a Bettinardi Antidote first of the year, impulse buy after trying it out. Significantly changed my putting. Still can't read greens, but the putts at least go where I planned. I attribute it more to the zero torque than the putter brand, i.e., zero torque Spider probably has the same result.
About a month ago I was playing around in the Sim room and one of the pros ninjaed his way to a driver fitting. The Taylormade Qi4D blew my old driver (Ping G425) out of the water. Dispersion was way better, and I was gaining 10-15 yards, even on misses. I didn't WANT to buy a new driver, but with those numbers, felt compelled. My usual playing partners were blown away.
I was content with that. But Taylormade's "Tour Van" made a stop at my club this past week.....I went in thinking maybe I'd get a 7 wood or 9 wood, and didn't even want to fit for irons, but they're good salesman and again ninjaed their way to an iron fitting. Much like the driver, the improvement was just too significant. So yeah, I ended up with a whole new bag: a 60, 54, Gap, and PW, then 7-9 to finish off the irons. 3W, 7W, and 9W finished it out. Only club I kept was a Cleveland 3 Hywood. It kind of fits the gap between 7W and 3W but is much closer to the 3W; I kept it because the thing scorches through rough while keeping distance.
Bag is very much built for my home course, which I play 90% of the time. I have a slot open to decide what I want to do with the gap between the 7 iron and 9 wood, but I'm not sure I need it, and might add another wedge instead.
hey porter with new gear ♥
promise you'll let me borrow them next time we first links it up
Finally broke down and ordered new-to-me irons.
The S300 stiff shafts in my 2005 irons (Cleveland CG4 Tour) are no longer compatible with my 79-83mph 7-iron swing speed, and the heads on these things are technologically obsolete.
Fitter told me I need a lighter shaft. Found a set of used Srixon ZXi5 4-PW with Nippon 105 stiff shafts in them. I am hoping I will appreciate the upgrade. They should arrive this week.

Played 16 practice holes with the new (used, new in 2025) irons today. Felt like going from dial-up to high speed internet.
It will take a while to get used to the new distances (PW looks like it goes 10-12 yards further) and to figure out exactly which wedges I want. But I can already tell they're so much easier to hit.
