I have one of David Sklansky’s 1982 WSOP watches — curious what it’s worth

I ended up with something pretty unusual and figured this might be the right place to ask about it.

It's basically all been said already. There just isn't a big poker memorabilia market and sklansky isn't a big enough name. Rarity doesn't equal value if there's no market. You are looking at gold value and that's basically it.

If you had a negreanu, helmuth, ivey or Brunson bracelet or watch it would prob be worth a bit more.

Nothing would be worth more. There is no nostalgia associated with poker. No one dad took them to the wsop. No one stood by the tv wearing poker gear and screaming for their favorite player. It’s a semi criminal hustle and people get mad when I correctly point that out because they realize all the time they wasted trying to do something pointless without the money and the money is made elsewhere.source: multi millionaire legend of gambling. Sorry if this hurts anyone.

a literal legend of gambling who helps others make millions.

Floyd Mayweather? Is that you?

by HawkesDave

Floyd Mayweather Is that you

No. But I was part of a team that “hired” Floyd as a front to get down massive action on sports bets and other +ev plays.

Do the altruistic thing and give it to Mat. He should be the one to decide where it goes, although I bet he doesn't keep it.

if exhibits of massacres and murder weapons isn't macabre to you, welp, uuuhhhhhhh, ya. Ive never noticed mobsters being glorified, do you only watch the first half of mob movies? i hate to ruin goodfellas, godfather, casino, etc. for you but in the end almost everyone gets murdered or imprisoned.

The plotlines of the most beloved mob movies have little to do with the question of whether or not a segment of the general population glorifies mobsters. Rest assured, there is a segment of the populace that most certainly does romanticize mob bosses. My favorite sandwich at the Italian deli I frequent is called the Chicken Gotti. Not the Chicken Da Vinci. The Chicken Gotti. You can claim this is just a marketing gimmick. My response would be that it's successful marketing because there's a swath of the populace that glorifies/romanticizes mobsters. Just as other segments of the populace glorify gangsters, or serial killers. Or Trump. Don't underestimate the darkness of the human psyche, my man. The University of Michigan recently released a study which found that 7.3 percent of the American adult population, or 19.3 million people, have 'seriously considered shooting someone else'. That's a decently high number, in my book. But you don't have to engage in homicidal ideation yourself to romanticize mobsters. You kind of just need to be a.) human and b.) not extraordinarily ethical. So, most people. Personally, I'm not a big mob guy. I don't prioritize money enough for my ideal criminal to be a mobster. But are there criminals I romanticize? Sure. Iconoclasts who outsmart the system in some way. Those are my dudes. You (rhetorical 'you') can take Al Capone; I'll take Sam Bankman-Fried. And I'll hate myself at some level for liking/respecting the SBFs of the world. But it's part of who I am. Humans are complex creatures. Not all good, not all evil. Right, Sklansky?

Cheers bro. I like your posts. Just don't come at me with 'I'm worth millions and you're a broke loser' because I happen to disagree with you on something. (I'm neither broke nor rich, for what it's worth). Fair enough?

How many other legends of gambling feel the need to constantly declare themselves literal legends of the game?

Sounds like a "screw in a light bulb" joke.

I saw the Pawn Star episode. Think he said the WSOP which he won, not to take care to say it was a part of it. Felt it was polished truth. But it was David.

Not sure his death necessarily adds a lot of value to it as it would to a bigger celebrity, but I do think it will continue to appreciate yearly and if there's ever an in-person poker Hall of Fame you might see it grow exponentially in value.

literally no one will ever care about a poker hall of fame. it is basically a criminals and scoundrels hall of fame. WHICH IS FINE! (as a

I’m literally one of the 73 people ever who would have cared about it and even I don’t care about it. HOFs by their nature eventually become irrelevant, self-degrading jokes. The only existing one worth anything still is the hockey one.

That said, if I had a net worth of $5M I’d pay $10K for the set of three watches, assuming they were intact and in excellent condition.

no one thinks that. these things happen. the original statement was that the rock n' roll hall of fame was "filled with pedophiles" which is laughably wrong.

Holy projection of one’s own fantasies, good grief!

Who thinks that? That's half the reason people become rock stars. It is known.

Can I ask You Questions about SVU episode 41 Witneses from 2016 etc?(~~~~).

SBF was probably the dumbest white collar criminal of all time. Bronze ELO league of legends player that lost everything trading against his own customers, with their money, while holding the order books.

It’s like if GG Poker made Rampage a sponsored pro and he lost all the funds to customers while playing on a super user account because he just couldn’t stop degening it up and chasing every bad draw.

Nah I disagree with this take. While I agree Sklansky's watch isnt worth more than its weight in gold, there are a few players who could sell their WSOP bracelets for a premium, Johnny Chan, Negreanu, Ivey and Brunson come to mind.

by LimpDitka

Moneymaker’s probably be the only one to gather any real ‘mainstream’ interest from collectors of esoterica like Jim Irsay imo. Maybe the Chan-Seidel “Rounders” one. Hamilton’s would be funny to flash around on TV & streams if you were a high roller. Talk to it like a Dick Tracy watch. “What does he have, Russ?”

nah, the pawn stars dude explained this isn't the case (not my opinion). People generally dont want other peoples awards unless theres personal nostalgia. TJ cloutier was a well known author and athlete and couldn't sell his bracelets for the price of scrap metal. you think people care about johnny chan but no one actually does. maybe people who didn't get their chips cashed when his card room folded.

It appears that T.J. is still with us at
86 years old. Wonder how he is doing.

I'd check the $3 craps tables at Rio. If he can still throw the dice im sure hes doing fine.

No one cares about TJ Cloutier (No offense to him), but like I said there are a number of players who could sell their bracelets for more than scrap weight in gold. An Ivey Bracelet for example would sell for 2x weight of gold. Im not insinuating that any of these bracelets are priceless or anything like that , but you underestimate the amount of poker fans. Also, I believe Moneymakers bracelet from 03 would sell for north of $1 Million dollars.

Sad to think about it, only sellable bracelet would be Moneymaker's. With Hellmut's ME as a wild card.

This is spot on. Even for those there would be a v small (in terms of population) potential market. The rest, effectively worthless. Id perhaps chuck in Stu Ungers to the mix for the story but thats perhaps it.

A criminals and scoundrels hall of fame is cool. No one will go to see Ike Haxton’s mask or Jason Koon’s protein shake bottle
