I'd like to see him go to a team that isn't currently in that tier 1 contenders and put them there so we have another team in the dance, preferably in the west

so denver, minnesota probably would be my 2 choices....would like to see SA/OKC get some comp rather than run the conf for the next 3 years

cavs, sixers in the east i guess

Luka trade is the only thing from saving Boston from worst trade of the last 10 years.

Not sure how much cheap owners plays a role when they took back George who barely makes less and paid a 40% FT shooter 3/47 today.Yeah they aren't gonna shell some huge luxury tax bill probably but that is most teams, don't think finances really plays a role in deal.Only thing I'd say is the night Tatum tore his achilles and they got out running the Jrue/KP team back for the bi

PG is almost certainly not getting another big contract.

Brown prob going to want an extension at the end of this year that will make him the highest paid player in the league again. His contract timing has been impeccable.

Owners shipped out Simons at the deadline this year for corpse of Vuc to duck tax too

I mean it looks like the 76'ers won the trade. But did they really? Like you said you have to pay Brown alot of money. And no disrespect but is Brown better than George? I know a hot take. He may be now but if we look at their careers George was always ranked as elite while Brown was seen more as a role player until recent times. Borwn over-exceeded and is now seen as elite. While George was injured and whatever. Again this isn't disrespect to Brown but he over-exceeded expectations because he plays hard. Where George on paper was always the more talented player. And maybe he has under-exceeded his ceiling so far. If George still cares and is healthy isn't he possibly the better player? Plus picks and save alot of money? Yes he's older but he should still have some in the tank at 36?

But also i think the reason the Celtics wanted to trade Brown was him saying his favorite year was when their superstar player was injured for most of it. And the team lost in the 1st round. Then Borwn knew they tried to trade him for Giannis so nothing good was gonna come from keeping him on the team after all that. I actually like Brown as he gives you everything, but i understand why the Celtics traded him. Hopefully it works out for both of them.

This doesn't work at all. Yes, the Celtics would have had to pay Brown a lot of money -- $183 million over the next three years. But they also took back Paul George's massive contract. He will get $111 million over the next two seasons. So they basically saved having to pay Jaylen his final season at age 32, plus about $10 million. Whatever you think of Jaylen's contract, I think it would be fair to say that the Celtics took on one of the worst contracts in the league in this deal.

Jaylen's WS and VORP over the last two seasons have been 12.1 and 4.4, respectively. Paul George's WS and VORP over the same period have been 3.5 and 1.6. Yes, a lot of that disparity is because Paul George is always hurt and Jaylen is relatively durable, but given their respective ages, there is no reason that expect the trend of Jaylen playing a lot more games than Paul George to change. Over the last seven seasons, Paul George has played 407 games. To put that in perspective, Anthony Davis has played 392 games over the same period. Staps has played 430.

I doubt he is getting a full max at 31 after this season unless Philly wins the title or something, but yeah he would've had to be given an extension sooner than later. Seems like with the new CBA you are going to start seeing hard negotiations making a comeback rather than teams just blindly taking care of their own players. Being more comfortable being uncomfortable so to speak.

Simons/Vuc was to duck the tax but also created trade exception and I do think they thought they could play 5 out with Vuc and Simons was superfluous with Tatum coming back. Vuc was just too garbage for it to work. Simons just signed for 2/12 with Philly so we're not exactly talking someone considered a big piece here in general.

Guess we'll see but most teams are trying to dodge luxury tax with new CBA unless they are title contenders and have to keep the team together another year or two.

Lakers lighting the LeBron/AD era on fire with the Westbrook trade was pretty bad. Cost them Caruso and KCP and even Kuz/Schroder as well who were decent roleplayers for them. Had to give decent assets iirc to get off Russ just to get DLo/Beasley/Vandy

Kyrie for IT/Crowder/Nets pick was honestly pretty bad but Kyrie flamed in boston so no one cared. That is actually kinda most similar to this Brown deal in terms of guy being disgruntled, getting 50 cents on dollar to a rival team.

But then the Celtics would have to pay max money to keep Brown soon. Signing a guy to a max contract/franchise type player money who until recently was considered a number 3 or 2 player on a team would be a very questionable decision. He's not Giannis.

Brown plays hard and is very good. I'd love to have him on my team. But not for franchise player type money. And that's what it takes to get Brown now. He deserves it for how great he's played. But i'm not paying that. I'd only pay that for Giannis, Wemby, and Jokic. Probably SGA, Tatum, and Luka as well. Though they are not Giannis, Wemby, and Jokic. But you have to pay them anyway as they the next best thing to the super greats.

an underrated aspect of the jaylen trade is trading him to the team that you choked a 3-1 series lead to. making a bad trade is one thing, but to a conference rival like that? lol

maybe embuust will finally get to the 3rd round of the playoffs now...

Since chilltown said run it back....

Kyle Lowry to retire with Toronto Raptors.

Quietly made the hire nearing 7/4 weekend. Nearing Labor Day weekend:

Mitch has made the difficult decision to move up to the front office in order to cut down on travel and soend more time with his family. Mitch will report directly to both ownership and the VPOBO.

In a statement, Johnson said, “I am eternally grateful to the Spurs organization & McComb family for this new opportunity…”

The Finals were so bad even Pop had to set loyalty aside.

Brown had three years left. The Celtics weren't going to be forced to engage in extension talks this year. And they were never going to be "forced" to extend him. If Jaylen had demanded a trade two seasons from now because the Celtics were unwilling to give him a huge extension, then they wouldn't have ended up doing much worse than they did in this deal.

And Paul George had close to negative value given his contract. If the Sixers had waived PG, how many teams would have wanted to pick him up on that contract? Few, if any, imo.

I hearya. I'm not saying i love the trade for the Celtics. Just saying if Paul George plays anywhere near the Paul George it probably was a good decision for the Celtics. Especially when the Celtics are getting i think it was 2 1st round picks and 2 2nd round picks as well? Paul George alone might be a better player if he plays like Paul George. And they don't have to worry about having to pay some big contract whenever it's time to pay Brown. Not to mention Brown wasn't happy and could have been a team turmoil situation.

You could be right that teams are going to start doing things differently soon, but as of now I don’t think there’s been a single player ever who was max max eligible from AllNBA/Awards results and didn’t get the full bag.

PG has regressed some as a sixer and he played about half a season for them each (he's 36, we forget how normal that is), he's more of what boston wants on offense than brown is.

It's really wild that a guy coming off a 28.7 ppg a game season got a lot of "analytics says he's bad" stuff out there and a few hit pieces after he got traded. You can grind up to 20ish and just be a volume chucker and not that good but you definitely are good in some way if you get over 25 ppg. Team fit still matters more and for philly it's going to be interesting how to get maxey (who should have the ball in his hands), with brown (who wants the ball in his hands) and embiid (who wants the ball in his hands but now is more of a 3rd option on this team with VJ (who needs the ball in his hands to keep improving) all on the same page.

NBA goes into eras where everyone finds something and then overdoes it a bit and the game adjusts eventually ie, 2 point attempts on offense have become basically just as good as 3 point so maybe we'll get teams adjust back to quality of shot rather than the shoot 3's damnit era.

This FA where a bunch of tall injured guys got paid a bit more than they would've in a normal FA because everyone is afraid of wemby was this years thing too.

Yeah, any analysis that has the trade as okay is wrong. At least get more picks.

It's like the Luka trade. Fine, get rid of Luka, but get all the draft picks.

If 76ers just wanted to get rid of PG as a salary dump they would have had to attach a first round pick to it to get someone interested. And that was to get nothing back.

You know who I'd say is having a good offseason? The Knicks.....Giannis winds up on a gutted Heat team, Brown moving to Philly and weakening the Celts while probably not making Philly good enough, Detroit hasn't done anything yet. Raptors might be their biggest threat in the east and that hinges on Kawhi Leonard staying healthy.

You know who is having a bad offseason? The Lakers....Gave up too much draft capital for Kessler, Sandro/Grimes signed for big money and they're gonna lose Smart, Rui, Kennard. Nevermind the LeBron aspect, I think they barely got better not even including him and they have limited ways to get better going forward other than finding guys like Zubac, Reaves, Caruso 2.0. Clock is ticking with Luka 2 years left on deal. I'm sure he wants to be in LA all things being = but 2 first round exits can change that in a hurry.

Embiid has become so bad defensively and rebounding that if the ball isn't in his hands then he probably shouldn't even be in the game. Atleast vs the top tier teams.

I'd say try to deal him for AD but they got no picks left so probably a no go.

You are right about the evolution though. The pace/space 5 out led to no offensive rebounds and few FTs and has been replaced by the possession game. Why a lot of these bigs who can protect the paint and create 2nd chance pts are getting paid.

also lol @ that lebron/rich paul white board

i'm not sure what my favorite part is, where it says "no garland" for the cavs insinuating he doesn't wanna play with harden or under the mavs it says "oil", wtf? is he looking to get into fracking or something? the rest of the board just lists the main guys on the team, we got espn.com for that, it is on the internet man

guy thinks its the summer of 2010 all over again

Almost all of the potential LeBron signings look exciting. Except Cleveland. Mitchell and Harden feels like Luka/Reeves. I want to see LeBron join something fun and different.
