** World Cup 2026 - USA, Canada, Mexico Thread **
Saw no thread was active yet while it starts tomorrow so I'd gave it a go
No real time for an extensive write-up but lets
i bet he doesn't realize that
Pretty sure all their neighbors are vastly pro-Paraguay today.
They don't really see Paraguay as a threat since they don't really win anything. It's different for Brazil and Argentina with each other. Paraguay is their indigenous little brother.
You know there was a big war in the 1860s though right
As a Canadian, it's weird to see all the Canadian politicians and media extolling what a dream run it was and how amazing and inspirational they were. I mean...were they? They came into the tourney ranked #30, and proceeded to:
Beat #59
Lose to #15
Tie with #61
Beat #54
Lose to #6
They beat no one of consequence, and were upset for a draw, lost their group and didn't get to play at home in the knockout stage. They basically met expectations or slightly fell below them.

They achieved something they have never done before right? Two things in fact?
Also FIFA rankings are not a particularly good metric.
Considering Canada didn't score a goal in the world cup until 2022 (and lost all those games). That's why, to your average canadian citizen this was amazing because they hadn't done it before. They hadn't even made a draw in the world cup before so anything at all was seen as a win and they made it to R16.
it was the best of times, it was the blurst of times...
They didn't learn from their shithousing back then and neighbors teamed up to cull their male population by 60% or whatever.
Yes, they achieved something that has only happened 16 times in the history of our great sport, win a round of 32 match. They should be throwing parades all over the country imo, even Nunavut.
I bet over 4.5 cards for the France game as I knew Paraguay was going to go full savage mode.
And they did. France got 3 yellows for medium level retaliation. Paraguay literally got away with everything.

I meant Canada winning a knockout game in the world cup and you knew that come on. They had never even drawn a group game before including only scoring what looks like twice in 6 total games.
Dictator Mbappe anime is ****ing gold.

Superb banter from Greggs
I find Stevewilldoit very irritating, this line of the article made me chuckle though, given their history.
However, Fifa's Code of Ethics has restrictions on offering and accepting gifts, with article 21 stating that such gifts can only be offered or accepted if they "have symbolic or trivial value".

They know how to appeal to the Ingurlund Reform and Restore customers.

Unlucky. That ref can sit the rest of the tournament out imo.
Brazil 2 - 1 Norway
Mexico v England is a weird one. There will be a lot of captain hindsights afterwards either saying of course the heat was the major factor or of course England just have the superior squad blah blah blah. The market for it appears to be very efficient in that the exchange odds have barely moved, but weird in that England are favourites but not by the amount you'd think. I'll go with Mexico 0 - 2 England.
You can also bet on the kick off time. Supposedly the forcecast is 90% chance of thunderstorms for the hour before and after kick off time. Could be a long night.

Sounds like Balogun will be able to play for USA vs Belgium.
That is massive news. I’m shocked.
Good. It was a bogus red anyway.
Just read an article about it which might be bs but apparently the red still stands on his record. USA didn't appeal but he's still been cleared to play lmao. I didn't think it was a red either tbh.
Not overturning it but allowing him to play is the weirdest decision of them all. Just say a panel has overturned it and strike it off his record?
when has fifa done that before
most rigged world cup oat ainec usa#1
Totally corrupt. There was no path to overturn a suspension until FIFA decided to make one for this.
If they had a panel to review all cards, especially those contributing to a suspension, that would be good.
But the FIFA is corrupt so don't expect them not to be corrupt now line is weak af but totally expected from American partisans.
I hope Belgium wipe the floor with them.
