Cool guys don't look back at explosions
And cool guys don't act upset when they lose in poker. Take Daniel Negreanu falling over when he busted in 11th in the main, or Matt Affleck practically turning into the Ralph Wiggum soul crush meme then throwing a water bottle when he lost with aces. Both incredibly painful spots, but that doesn't mean you have to act that way. Take for example the coolest guy in poker, Phil Ivey. Busted in 9th or 10th to a river ace by Moneymaker in '03. No reaction. Stoicism. That's how it's done, he is human and can't feel great about that but that's beyond his control. What is in his control is his reaction. That's what we should all strive for, composure. Nobody's perfect, but it helps to think before the moment comes how we want to behave.
Another thing that I see a lot on the internet is name calling. That's also not something you see cool guys do. Could you imagine Phil Ivey coming on to this forum and calling other posters insulting names? Not in a million years, hes way too effing cool for that.

Is this a dig at Greg Raymer?
I think he acts very composed at the poker table, I don't see him having a tantrum like Negreanu or Hellmuth.
But as to the second category of being so openly insulting I think it's a symptom of being terminally online. That level of toxicity is hard to carry over in real life.
As they say we should all touch grass from time to time. Cool guys touch grass more than most. And they stay off the internet almost entirely because they're too busy doing stuff in real life.
Think you could find a better example than Ivey who just comes across as soulless. Seems like he could walk past 1, 000 dogs chained up and starving and a burning orphanage like nothing happened. Someone like Ausmus comes to mind.
Anyhow Affleck’s pain was probably more pronounced as he probably regretted not just jamming over the 4 bet. Usually when you say “the pot is big enough” it’s an error born out of fear but not with those chip stacks in final two tables of Main.
"Cool" guys don't use phrases like "touch grass" imo...

Affleck would've been chip leader by a lot too and likely when the final table started. There is some merit to just saying look I have a stack let's just take it now and chip up but I loved his play myself definitely at the time anyway. The main has unusual circumstances like that. I mean if moneymaker doesn't hit an 8 on humberto or hold up against dutch's bluff we don't hear of him today so that's just the game we play. I'll never blame someone for showing a little emotion at a huge life swing. At your local casino yeah gtfo and shut up.

the last thing you want more of if you gamble for a living is robotic "cool guys". I made the most money in rooms of emotional addicts throwing tantrums or acting in self destructive ways.

Yeah after seeing 6 box trucks with Rampage, Doug, and Ivey AI shirtless and dancing rolling down the strip I realize none of them are very cool. It's cool to have emotion but it's never cool to throw anything in anger.
FWIW I like Affleck's play it takes real balls to wait to the turn to get it in with aces there and I think he's giving himself best chance at high finish.
Being a cool guy is overrated. Enjoy all the highs and lows life gives you and don't be afraid to show it.

this is a very good point I think it's very much okay to show emotion in huge spots like that in the biggest tournament and spectacle the game has to offer. It's human. Obviously dont do anything crazy but saying damn why me wtf how is it this bad every time is fine in most circumstances like that
OP joined a forum that’s down over 99% from its peak traffic two days ago to start a thread about 16 & 23yo old hands.
FWIW Affleck after no cursing or screaming went way out in the hallway with no one around to throw the bottle, then came back and shook everyone’s hand around the table.
And yes, while he played the aces properly to maximize EV, Doyle’s long ago prophecy whispered true yet again. Same with Greg’s kings v runner runner boy in 2005.
