** World Cup 2026 - USA, Canada, Mexico Thread **
Saw no thread was active yet while it starts tomorrow so I'd gave it a go
No real time for an extensive write-up but lets
an early start tomorrow as the round of 16 wraps up:
argentina vs egypt (in atlanta)
switzerland vs colombia (in vancouver)
inject Team USA choking to death on their own dick right into my veins
Romelu Lukaku in his last three World Cup matches: vs New Zealand: 1 shot, 1 goal - vs Senegal: 1 shot, 1 goal - vs USA: 1 shot, 1 goal
gods bless the 1-shot kid unkaku
Courtois "Everything that happened before the match didn't necessarily play a role. I read that and laugh about it. I felt a bit more confident today that we would win than against Senegal. They were a stronger team than the US, and that was evident today."
oof
Ricardo Quaresma: "There hasn't been a single game at the World Cup where you could say Portugal played well or that we attacked a lot and were unlucky. MartΓnez never impressed me. Since MartΓnez arrived, I haven't seen the national team play a great game. He tried 50 tactics, none of them worked."
hmm, i wonder what the common denominator is there...
Ronaldo: "I won three trophies for the Portuguese National Team, before me Portugal had zero trophies. Euro 2016 was the most important one, for me it is at the same level of winning the World Cup"
ok grandpa, let's get you to bed
portugal obviously shouldn't have kept playing ronaldo the entire game this entire world cup. If he's just a late sub, maybe it's passable enough.
Coaches sometimes just stick with players too long, USA had a 38 year old as the last defense guy and belgium torched the crap out of that. Probably was in their plans coming into the game, hey let's pick on the old guy, while their old guys who aren't even that old still came off the bench or didn't even come in. Most players on the us may still make the next team but idk how many actually will, so many have to improve a lot cause today was a mess, too many people didn't have the heart in this game.
Pulisic can't be the best player on the next cup team that's for sure, sheesh. Berhalter was better in this game than him and it wasn't close.
I fell asleep before the game and overslept the whole thing. Luckily was able to watch the entire game on Telemundo without checking any social media for spoilers.
LOL what an embarrassing performance. Got outplayed from start to finish and only scored on a lucky deflection. Amateurish mistakes at the back, and barely created anything up front. Even let old man Lukaku score at the end. Good riddance!
Highlight of the match was Pochettino punting his water bottle, shown on slowmo by Telemundo!
Justice has been served.
The best players and the best teams are all still alive.
Spain, France, Argentina and England are top 4 in FIFA world rankings. Morocco is 6, Belgium is 8, Colombia 11, Switzerland 15, Norway 19 and Egypt 24.
I'm kinda rooting for Norway. They don't get here often and Haaland is a likeable character. A happy force of nature.
I'm obliged to support England, but would be happy for anyone to take it, bar Spain or France.

I don't know why - maybe because the economic pressure is less - but in national football you have a lot of instances of coaches going with "their guy" and refusing to make the right/ballsy move to drop them out of loyalty or something. Deschamps is like this to some extent and Martinez was doing the same when he was managing Belgium.
Bit ironic that Spain scores a late winner with a fresh substitute while 41 years old Ronaldo plays the whole 90 despite having fresh & youngs legs in Ramos on the bench.
Well I hope Portugal is happy that Ronaldo got to statpad his goal count against Uzbekistan and Martinez didn't have to deal with Ronaldo pouting him as he does the obvious thing of taking him off 1hour in (or even better, don't start him).
I didn't agree with benching Doku yesterday but Martinez 100% plays KDB yesterday in Garcia's spot but we wouldn't have been able to boss the midfield like we did with him yesterday
welp
Les Bleus or bust from here on out
leggo FRA!
Always love a lolUSA moment

Americans finally done with the Captain America bullshit? I don't think I've ever seen him play a good game and he leaves the pitch injured more than he finishes a game.
It was perfection. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed hate-watching as much as this game.

Not sure who you're referring to with Deschamps but for Martinez it's easy enough to explain. He's a nobody, a tourist lucky to come to the world cup with Portugal. Martinez is not benching Ronaldo. He's not Ancelotti or Klopp.
If Ramos doesn't score the 2-1 against Croatia after subbing off Ronaldo, they hang him the next day for treason.
That will be the unemployed games fully over then. If you made it this far and have watched them all then congrats you are a sicko.

Argentina in 90
Draw at FT, Colombia to qualify.
Argentina are strong favourites to win in 90, but they were even bigger favourites vs Cape Verde and failed to win in 90 there. Think they will get the job done this time.
Other game seems evenly matched. Hopefully not a 0-0 zzzz fest.
Yeah agreed, I thought they had more than they showed last night. Clearly not, major rip. Looked like it needs a full reset of every part.
Wonder if Infantino/Trump regret their life choices over this incident. I doubt it.
Putin never got a red card rescinded in 2018, Trump taking this as a W.
If I was a Belgium manager I would just make **** up at this point.
Seems like they play like crazy when they have something to hate.
Like lads, you wont believe *checks notes* these paella eaters said about our chocolate
You know the world is upside down when Dutch people start rooting for Belgium. Trump effect on full display.
Nothing we can do about Trump. Just hope he leaves this planet soon, but surely a handful of federations could come together and get rid of Infantino through the Ethics Committee or something? Am I being too naive?
