Let's talk about Stream and buy mountains of games
I thought we might like to have a Steam offers catch-all thread, and maybe even any general discussion about the service
I could see getting carried away with that.
edit: yeah that spirals pretty quickly. I'll probably be picking that up.
Cool, will wishlist it.
Currently playing AC: Shadows, Expedition 33, and Kingdom Come 2. Need to beat at least one of them before next month.
I was hesitant to buy after hearing some of the reviews, but decided to bite the bullet.
If you have a PS5 Pro (like me) or a high end PC, this is hands down, the best looking game out there. It gets me even more excited for GTA6 now.
I heard the story was bland, but I'm still too early in to comment. I'm most looking forward to all the exploration. The map looks HUGE.
Got hooked on puzzle game,
, after watching a bit of the Cracking the Cryptic guys streaming it.Started yesterday, decided to do "just one more puzzle", now I'm 300+ deep...So I finished the demo and it's a little too expensive for me to just buy on a whim for PC. This type of puzzle would be fantastic on a mobile device.
ngh, i have kingdom come 1 from the epic free games - thought i'd enjoy it so figured i'd try it out - was not a big fan, but more importantly, i was never able to escape the village on horseback - they always caught up to me and killed me, after like 10 failed attempts i just quit
is it worth going to the university of youtube and figuring out how to get past that part and play it through or no?
also, do you guys experience that stuff ever, where there's certain levels or sections of a game that you just for the life of you can't figure out what you're supposed to do or even worse, you know what you're supposed to do but are unable to do it and thus just stop playing?
hard to think of any examples as i don't play too many games these days, but that was usually what killed an NES or sega game for me back in the day, i'd hit a part i couldn't get past and that would be it for me
most recent one i can think of is playing god of war on the playstation back in like 2007 and there was a cut scene involving flying and i had no idea what i was supposed to do and just died over and over again, my roommate got home, i asked him to take a look and he did it on the first attempt and was genuinely shocked i couldn't do it
I have a FT job and other hobbies outside of gaming.
If I get to a particular section in a game that's really tough, I have no issues with lowering the difficulty (if it's an option) or looking it up on YouTube. But I always give it multiple attempts on my own first.
I probably attempted to beat the final boss in SilkSong at least 20 times before finally looking it up.
Yeah normally it's something trivial I didn't notice. Like a boss has a laser you can't dodge but there is some way to disable it.
Obviously some games also have really difficult parts.
I have no problem looking up boss fights to get an idea. I don't need to beat stage one 12 times just to get killed in stage 2 immediately every time.
Conversely something like majoras mask which I'm playing for the first time try not to get spoiled at all.
Super Meat Boy 3D
Played some of this. I'm still in world 1, I'm sure the challenges will crush me later, but so far it is really good. It's a dream game for those who like 3d platformers.
Well I didn't know that existed. Wishlisted.

It's been a long time but I do recall that it took me a few tries to get past that part and it seemed unnecessarily difficult. I think it's worth googling or Youtubing how to get past it; the game is quite good. I have the sequel in my library but haven't had time to start it yet, but I'm looking forward to it when I have some time.
I generally avoid games that are intentionally designed to be hard and require multiple attempts, i.e. Soulslike games. I just don't have time for that ****, nor do I enjoy the struggle. I did really enjoy Clair Obscur even though it incorporates some of that w/r/t to mastering dodge and parry timing, but I enjoyed the game despite that rather than because of it; and it's not really that difficult outside of optional encounters. And where there are optional encounters that are super hard, I usually just try them once or twice and move on. I'm kind of a completionist at heart, but too old for that now.

Yeh it's a nice game. Very relaxing - easy for me to start a short run, then suddenly it's 3am.
I've tapped out for now at about half the 1,225 puzzles. There is one rule I hate (Palisade), so normally avoid them, but I'd definitely like to see the other ~10 I've not seen.
House Flipper is currently free:
Playing the new Heroes of Might and Magic - Olden Era.
Going through the campaign at the moment, and have to admit I'm not really feeling it so far. Seems to have some great reviews, so going to persist for a bit longer.
i fell for the mobile version, thinking it was a real port, it was a bait and switch, one of those "tap every few hours" game
bought the game FEZ after toiling with ai for a bit about my philosophy of what makes a game good
also got the demo for The Artisan of Glimmith which looks stellar i don't see how i don't end up buying it
FEZ is still great. I just replayed it last year.
Glimmith showed to be more of a chore than a game.
The Witness and Braid are on sale for $10.78 for both games. Got them both!
After several years in my backlog, I finally got through Axiom Verge 2. There are some similarities to the first lore-wise, but it plays very differently from the first. Borrows very heavily from Super Metroid, but in this case it's a good thing, as I loved the game from start to finish. Highly recommended.
You haven't played any of those?
Took two parties both to around the start of Act 2 in BG3, and played a bit of PoE2 and Exp 33. That's all.
Bought RDR2 for $14.99, which seems like a good deal for the best game of all time.
