Fowldogg finally plays the WSOP
Hey guys, FowlDogg is heading back to Vegas.
Did I let you down with the last trip report? Yes. Absolutely. I start these
sorry but the whole hh is icky.
Pre flop....the hand is far easier to play as a 3 bet, particularly as we cover him.
A10o is not strong enough to slow play & it's not a hand with great post flop playability, so we don't really want to allow the blinds to play. We are guessing on a lot of A high flops which is not great. Plus we can get a lot of equity to fold - some pocket pairs, KQ, KJ QJ type hands & maybe AJ.
I don't like the flat at all.
Flop is is a meh call, but really as a one & done because we are guessing with a marginal hand. (think how perfect a board it would have been for you as the pre flop 3 better)
as played I think turn is a fold. He is unlikely to be barrelling a worse A. SO you can be dominated and we lose to a huge amount of other hands that are in an opening range - AK, AQ KQ AA-QQ, J10ss. The flush coming in also means we're done vs his random heart suited connectors.
tbh I'd rather raise turn than call because we're only bluff catching & we have a key blocker in the 10h.
river is a street you shouldn't be seeing but I would want a whole tonne of proof that this guy is risking his tournament life by bluffing merrily before I called. & I think I still fold happily
Pre flop...3 bet>call>fold
Turn fold > raise > call
I agree with you. I definitely went into hero mode there, and that wasn't the right approach in this spot.
Looking back, I think the biggest mistake was preflop. A 3-bet is just the better play with ATo against that player, especially with my stack covering. If I'm not going to 3-bet, then I need to have the discipline to let it go on the turn instead of talking myself into a hero call.
Good feedback. Lesson learned, and hopefully I don't make the same mistake again.
Man... what a roller coaster.
I got whittled all the way down to about **175k**, mostly thanks to that Brazilian hand. Then I got moved from the Normandy room all the way over to the main tournament room, which somehow took about ten minutes. Once I finally got settled, it was a completely different dynamic. The blinds were getting huge, everyone had tightened up, and I managed to pick up a couple of uncontested shoves to stay alive.
Then came the hand.
Blinds are **6k/12k**. The chip leader opens UTG to **25k**. I'm in the lojack and peel back **10♥10♣**. I've got about **175k**, and with just under 15 big blinds this is a rip all day.
I shove.
The chip leader lets out one of those dramatic tournament groans like I just ruined his day... then tosses in the call.
He tables **A♠Q♠**.
Alright. Fair race.
The flop comes **Q♥-8♥-6♣.** Not exactly ideal.
The turn is the **K♥**, giving us some extra life with the heart draw.
Dealer... one time.
River...
**6♥.**
Boom.
The river completes the flush, we scoop a huge double, and just like that we're right back to around **30 big blinds**.
Tournament life restored. Let's go.
After doubling, I got moved to a brand new table with a bunch of randoms and was sitting on about **350k**.
First hand, I open **Q♥10♥** from the cutoff. The button decides to 3-bet me to **125k**. Yeah... not exactly a sizing I'm interested in messing around with. Easy fold.
Literally the next hand I pick up **A♥5♥** in the hijack. Blinds are **15k/30k**, and I open to 35k. The same Indian guy from the previous hand smooth calls from the big blind.
The flop comes **10-7-3 rainbow**. Not much happening, so I check, and he checks back. The turn is the **4♠**, which at least gives me a wheel draw. I think about taking a stab, but decide to check again. He checks behind. The river is the **K♦**, which changes absolutely nothing for me, so I check one last time.
He checks back and tables **A-Q**.
Damn. Would've been nice to find a bluff somewhere in there, but I guess I'll take the free showdown. At this point, I'm definitely going to need a little help from the poker gods if I'm going to make a run.
Alright, we're hovering around **9 big blinds** now. Not exactly comfortable, but definitely in the "one double and we're back in business" zone.
I'm on the button and look down at **K-8 offsuit**. At this stack depth, it's an easy shove. I rip it in, and the small blind thinks for a bit before calling. He shows **Q-J offsuit**.
Alright, we'll take that.
The good news? We are officially **in the money**.
The bad news? My friends immediately start chirping...
"Strip club once you're done?"
Dammit.
They got me again. Every time I think I'm free, Vegas finds a way to pull me back in.
Stay tuned.

wowee - awesome that he threw that away. run it up!
Alright, pretty standard one here. I'm down to about **7 big blinds**. Hijack opens, and I look down at **9-9** with about **175k**. Blinds are **25k**, so this is pretty much an automatic shove.
I rip it in and he thinks for a bit before calling.
He shows **10-10**.
Not exactly what I wanted to see, but that's tournament poker.
Flop comes **2-2-4**. Still alive. Turn is another **4**. River is the **6**.
And just like that, we're busto.
Also, Texas Mike just sat down at the table. Weird dude.
Overall, a pretty wild run. We made the money, had some huge swings, and now it's time to figure out what kind of trouble Vegas has planned next.
Congrats on the cash. Great TR so far!
I may be called a nit by feel wrath (go ahead, I'm still a big fan of u) but I wouldn't even mind a fold preflop with ATo. You're going to have to do a lot of chip expenditure guessing to find out if you're even good when you do hit which is only 33% of the time. As expressed by feely 3balling is absolutely the play if you do want to play the hand, but your playing 3 bettor reputation + position more-so than the pure absolute strength of your hand imho.
Ato Turn call is a little questionable, river call is a punt, loose splashy hits all sorts of flushes/JT on this runout and they don't tend to bluff, bluff, bluff bomb river

I really dislike A10 and AJo at most stack depths but I do think his range is too wide from the low jack to fold?

Yeah, that was a great tournament. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about the structure. There was plenty of play, the levels felt great, and the whole event was run really well.
The WSOP app is awesome too. Table changes, seat assignments, chip counts—it makes everything super easy. The one thing I'd love to see them add is a feature during hand-for-hand play where each table can indicate their hand is complete. It would speed things up a ton instead of everyone waiting around for the last table to finish.
I'm gonna be honest with you though, Texas Mike is beyond ****ing splashy, but the dude is running hotter than the Vegas sidewalk. I watched him call a **14-big-blind UTG shove** from the big blind with **7♣4♣**. The shover tables **pocket jacks**, and I'm thinking, "Easy double."
Nope.
The flop comes **J-7-7**, the turn is the **10**, and the river is another **7**.
Quads.
The dude is absolutely on fire. At this point I'm convinced he's either winning this tournament or punting off every chip trying.
