The arguement that its gonna be hard winning the pot if we dont hit the flop in some way is true for all very multiway pots, even in position alot of the time.

No, not really. KK (the counter example given earlier itt) fundamentally plays much different multiway OOP than QJs. We don't need to hit flops to have value and we face very little RIO.

QJs plays much differently in position than OOP. I expect it's a profitable call multiway from the BU, for example (we can better apply aggressive pressure with backdoors and gutties and minimize RIO losses, for example).

I have played a boatload of hours in 1/3 NL games in multiple different countries through the years, and i cant ever recall facing a lineup where i woudnt feel comfortable opening QJs.

We probably have similar levels of experience. I was an online mid stakes winner pre BF (I was taking shots at 5/T when BF hit). I have thousands of hours playing live poker since black friday and I'm a consistent 10bb/hr winner. During that time I've had three losing months and now I'm back in the streets after taking a break for covid.

IMO the feeling some players gets that they play faceup is due to range construction and/or other parts or their game that is not well calibrated. What you say about board coverage issues with your opening range is likely a part of the problem in your case yeah.

I'm not saying that I feel face up. I'm saying we necessarily need to play mostly face up when we are OOP against multiple opponents.

"Face up" is probably a poor choice of words on my part and it's resulting in equivocation.

I agree that my my EP RFI ranges are not optimal. They are exploitative. I was wrong to suggest my ranges are canonical.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean here, but I probably disagree.

From a random player I'd start by asking something to work out if they aren't checking 9 high boards with KK but are with QJs.

Playing online and being a winner is usually a big flex, but Black Friday was 16 years ago now and maybe you have some problems EP live because it was 6max online?

Also lots of hands don't make much in EP, and folding them at the lowest game isn't that bad ... but if you want to play higher then you might want to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUtX6de-... (will note that QJs is still in the nit range though 😉

Maybe interesting to the discussion, here is GTO Wizard's 9-handed cash 100bb UTG RFI range -- it's 10%.

Interestingly, it's picking a lot of hands that do well multiway (the suited aces and suited kings -- they flop a lot of top pair and also flop nutted draws).

QJs is just under 25%... you could pick your favorite suit to randomize.

It depends on board texture... but I expect barreling QJs into multiple opponents OOP is going to be -EV on most 9 hi boards.

I don't think that I have problems EP ;-)

Well, lack of board coverage I guess... but I'm intentionally sacrificing that for a range that I think is more profitable.

I've played bigger (live 5/T was my bread and butter for a long time). I'm not sure if I'll move up or not... the money that I make from 2/3 will probably make my house budget work and I don't need to keep a separate poker BR.

how they play AJo and QJs is a big indicator for me.

would love for you to expand on this
