Key details from what I understand on Leo Carlsson offer-sheet: Front-loaded and bonus structure, as we’d all expect In the next 12 months, he will earn approximately $39M

the nhl is so ****ing stupid part #78845098634

it's insane you can load contracts like this, 43% of it in year 1

^ ok nvm, thats year 1+2

Just over one year ago: Leo Carlsson joked that he’d sign a 9.5Mx8 contract ‘for sure’ if offered

it was Verbeek who called off all negotiations with Carlsson at the start of the year (by Verbeek’s own admission).

great work all around

the nhl is still a ridiculous old boys club clownshow

Bob Murray, the long time GM for the Anaheim Ducks prior to Verbeek, who was let go for alcoholism and creating a toxic work environment, is currently a senior advisor for the Philadelphia Flyers

on the ducks winning an agents' poll for hardest front office to deal with for the 2nd straight year:
(2026 voting - ducks 7, canucks 4, canes 3, jets 2, 7 teams with 1 vote)

AGENT 1 On the Ducks and GM Pat Verbeek: “Anaheim drives the hardest bargains, but they need to be careful because they can also affect the relationship long-term with the players. And hopefully they realize that.”

AGENT 2 On Anaheim: "When I start negotiating a contract with Anaheim, I tell my (partner), 'You take the first 10 calls with (assistant GM) Jeff Solomon because I don't want to waste my time.' Then when it gets to the end, I get involved because otherwise we're all wasting our f---ing time. They'll fight like tooth and nail for like 10 grand at the end of a deal. If you have a player at a million (point) one and you want it a million (point) 15, it's going to be a f---ing grind. Everything's a grind."

One agent described the Ducks front office as something of a throwback.

“When I started, everybody was angry and telling you to go f--- yourself,” one agent said. “So I kinda miss that. Anaheim, personality-wise, they’re tough. (GM Pat Verbeek) is cranky and runs the show himself and (assistant GM Jeff Solomon) is a grinder. I like those two guys, but tough. I appreciate when they’re a--holes.”

“Verbeek is ridiculous. He draws lines in the sand and sticks by it irrationally,” one said.

“The guy that makes Anaheim tough is Jeff Solomon," another added. "He does all their contracts. Something as simple as doing entry-level deals … there’s always something they nickel you.”

sounds like the problem might be that the ducks owner is a cheapskate, but also verbeek sounds like a dolt. only management experience is working under his buddy yzerman, so you can probably see how we got here. #trusttheyzerplan

Jason Robertson turned down 8 years 15 mill a year from Seattle from Darren Dregger in a trade deal

I know a couple guys in different industries who were offered promotions & big raises. The bosses waited until the very end to mention they required a move to Seattle. Both turned them down to stay in SLC.

reminds me of that possibly true anecdote about kovalchuk or someone trying to get into a busy atl restaurant by saying he plays for the atlanta thrashers and the host was like what's the atlanta thrashers?

I didn’t let a Mammoth player into the bar last year because he didn’t have his ID. He was cool about it, his friend was like whispering “he plays for the Mammoth”, sorry buddy. Bar was dead anyway.

cold as ice lol

[Shanya] Pavel Mintyukov isn't ~$7.4 million-caliber yet and doesn't project to be worth that over the next five years, either.

[Matt Didier] Would you rather have Zellweger at 3.1 million per year, or Mintyukov for 7.2 million per year? They had the same stats, with Zelly having better metrics last year.

if you have a ducks fan in your life, probably a good time to check in on em...

Bar is in Utah, right next to a cop station.

There are bars in Utah?

Rogers buys rest of MLSE and now have 100 percent ownership.

Soak bars

I cant see Danny Briere being popular at the GM meetings this year.

If I am Anaheim I let him go

I agree. I think I like it for Philly if you can't draft a C, but this will definitely have some repercussions.

Leafs hire Daniel Alfredsson as associate head coach.

Say what now.......

Not surprising they do cuts, people still listen to radio? Supposedly they were not getting supplies and stuff needed in the rogers offices lately so they can buy the rest of ownership in sports teams, lol.

Rich people ya know.

I've said it before but I'll say it again. I'd love for a player to go into his GMs office and say "you expect me to lay down in front of pucks to my face to try to slightly lessen the chance of a goal, and to punch the best man in my wedding's face to "set a tone", but you won't make moves to materially improve our team because the boys won't have a drink with you at the GM meeting?"

The Chicago Blackhawks announce Connor Bedard had shoulder surgery today and is expected to recover in four months

so, november? seems like the estimates tend to be on the worst-case scenario, so he might be back sooner than that. still kinda cooks them for this season though. funny it happened just after the byram trade ..... feel like they might not have done that otherwise, instead just draft someone at 4, then tank for another t5 pick. keep building up the base of talent. uh2ci

Maybe prime time to offer sheet him

Sounds like the Leo Carlsson offer was matched.

Statement from Ducks owners Henry & Susan Samueli: "Matching the offer sheet was an easy decision, as Pat has intelligently left enough cap space to give us the ability to retain Leo."

lololol

You have to wonder if Mcdavid's agent had him sign that cap friendly 2 year deal knowing salaries were going to explode?

Heck Mcdavid is looking at 25 mill a year now

by 72off

lololol

Lol wut

just noticed that byram got more money than nico hischier, thats crazy work

devils actually good to be in a pretty good spot, especially now with sunny running the show

hischier $11.7m until 2032
luke hughes $9m until 2032 (if he's good, wow)
timo meier $8.8m until 2031
jack hughes $8m until 2030
jesper bratt $7.9m until 2031
brett pesce $5.5m until 2030

and of course they should have plenty of room to sign quinn hughes next summer, if he doesn't stupidly re-sign with minnesota.
