Why didn't this guy retire after Jan 2025?


Regardless if he's dead or not, dude hasn't been at work for over a month. That alone should be grounds for dismissal and a special election.


His situation is not dissimilar to Diane Feiinstein's a few years ago.

I think the reason these transitions take a long time is that the Senators themselves are basically puppets for big money and their staff is the vehicle by which big money guides their actions.

So you have a team of people in McConnell's office doing the work of the Senator and those people need a new home where they can continue to serve the rich.

It takes some time behind the scenes to sort out the succession and in the meantime the wealthy masters don't have any urgent business to get completed in the Senate which requires that Senator McConnell be present.
