MuckPls and everyone else vs Vegas (10/4 to 10/20)
Figured I’d start the TR as I have some time on my hand before my trip. Where to start…
Haven’t really played any poker a
in my normal game, I'd say 80% of the regs are young Asian guys and most are good/very good TAGs. way better than whitey.
slow rolling (along with ridiculous hollywoods) is very definitely a thing amongst the older (50+) Chinese guys and I'm all for it!
Yes sorry that’s what I meant just forgot to add. Younger ones are usually either good TAG or good LAG while older ones are the gambling and slow rolling ones.
Agreed, this is a solid read.
Here's one- which is a more solid tell? The watch tell, or the "disgusting fat middle-aged 2/10 dude with an obv 9/10 20 something on his arm "watching" him play"?
heavy/fat guy = more often loose. I'm not sure I have a read for the guy who's girl is watching him play other than it's a very weird thing to do.
weirdly, bodybuilders = nits IME
I have decided to ignore that idiot and don’t let it ruin a TR for a lot of people who actually care and follows.
Good news: Sicarui is landing in exactly 1 minute. That means that tonight will be absolutely insane and there is a strong possibility we won’t sleep until tomorrow morning.
Until then, first time at Bavettes:

Food was amazing and I left a big fat tip to the Caucasian waiter!
LOL!
Just landed and waiting to pass immigration.
Been basically offline for the last week (Weeks even?) so got absolutely no detailed plans on the gambling whatsoever.
But, with the below formula we should be at least ok:
> Survive
> Improvise
> Adapt
> Overcome
> Gambolin'
> ????????
> Profit!
glgl. let the shenanigans commence
For this evening I first decided to head on over to Horseshoe, to take a crack at their crapshoot 5pm tourney ($100 buy-in). I forgot to take any pictures of that adventure though!
Really wish I had much to report from the tournament, but I do not. I was all-in with AK against AK early-ish, and which ended in a chop. I didn't get many playable hands, and blinds went up quickly. I got some pushes through with 88 and 99, but it was a struggle to stay ahead of the blinds when I didn't get dealt many playable cards. I was down to 13k at 1000-2000-2000, but still had a few hands left before I was going to be the BB.
Instead our table broke and we all got moved. That process took a minute or two, and at my new table I had the welcome sight of being the Big Blind + blinds had gone up to 2k-4k-4k. So I was basically descimated from the blinds & ante. I chose to fold that BB-hand after a raise and a call in front, and instead got my last blind in later with K9o when it folded to me. Ran smack into AA and that was that. On a positive note, the tournament got 52 entries and had a decent price pool.
I considered staying at Horseshoe to play cash, but instead went over to the place with the fountains:

After waiting for 15 minutes, I got a seat in a $1/$3 game and bought in for $300. I get quickly involved, raising KJss to $12 from early pos. We get 3 callers, and the flop comes T-7-3 all diamonds. Not really ideal, so I just check it and it checks through. Turn is a J, which gives me top pair. BB leads out for $15, I call, and a third player overcalls.
River comes another 7 and BB quickly checks. It feels like I have the best hand here, as he could have any random Jx from BB, and the field caller wouldn't have called on the turn with just a 7. All well and good, however I should have thought more about what I want to get called by. I throw out $45, and the MP-player hems and haws for a bit before putting in the call. I assume that's good news, but no - he has a straight with 98hh.
Even though it's good to value own yourself from time to time, I think this bet is too thin. I am really only getting called by something like QJ, and I think it would have been better to actually check-call the river if the player in position had bet after two checks to him.
Then a decent-looking female raises to $12 from UTG, two players call in the field, and I come along from BB with KThh. We go 4-ways to T-9-3 no hearts. I check, and the raiser bets $20. The other two actually calls, and I am a bit confused but decided to see what happens on the turn. So I call.
Turn is a 4, and after I check she bets $75. One of the field callers actually ends up jamming on her (around $250), and I obviously cannot do anything but fold. The raiser actually folded to the shove, so I never got a reveal. Not that it matters a ton, I would have folded to the $75 bet as well.
Down $100 bucks quickly then, but won a couple of small pots here and there. Then we find an interesting one, where hijack (new-ish to the table, but quite active) makes it $12. Button calls, and I have A9o in SB. I ended up 3-betting to $60, mostly praying to just take it down pre. No such luck however, as the original raiser calls.
Heads-up to A-4-5 two diamonds flop. Could be worse, and I also have Ad in my hand. I start out with a small bet of $40, and he calls. Turn brings the 6d, so I have TP and the nut flush draw. Opponent has around $140 left, and attack is the best kind of defense. So we jam on him, and get a quick fold. I probably had the best hand then anyway; assume he might have floated the flop with some kind of pocket pair.

The plan was to play a bit longer, but I got super tired and the game was not amazing anyway. So I just took my small loss of -$18 USD after playing for 1.5 hours.

The Conservatory was looking beautiful as always, and I also stopped by Park MGM quickly to say hello to MuckPls and sicarriu5, who was having some drinks at Juniper. Didn't stay too long however, just came back here and updated the TR instead.
Now I'm gonna head to bed and hopefully get a good night of sleep. Results are not very impressive so far, but at least I am not losing a ton. And I like a lot of the plays that I do, I just haven't really connected in any big pots so far.
Hours played: 10h 30min
Won/lost: -$281 USD
Hourly rate: -$26.7 USD
Good night from Las Vegas.

Been following this TR and have been loving it. Please do keep up the descriptions of people as it helps build the picture of what the table looks like. For me I love to imagine what the table is like and who are on it. Obviously you can take pictures of the rest of Vegas for us all to enjoy but it would be wrong to ask the players for a picture. It would seem Randall would like every story ever written to take out descriptions of people as it would be stereotyping.
Keep up the good work Muck and Whale!
I realise my post above came after we'd hopefully moved on so I'd actually like to go back to an earlier hand from Whale which I thought showed how hard it can be to assess just what the hell some players are doing!
It's the flush v flush hand where the opponent flopped two overs and the 2nd NFD, but just check-called the flop and then leads out on a turn that he missed.
When he finally hits something he also only bets around 1/3 pot on the river.
All very odd.
PS - Great call of the conference guy's A7 bluff. 99% sure that's the kind of call I wouldn't make.
When you have no other reads, population tendencies are all you have and so yes, I think they all can have an impact. If you don't think a 22yo Euro male plays differently than a 65yo Asian woman then I don't know what to tell you.
and yes, tux and rolex are definitely indicators. Tux = before or after a function, not settling in for a long session and so probably playing too loose. Also more likely to be rec player and if it's late at night, could well be inebriated

Who was the poster that wore suits and watches? Leon is probably the epitome to not trust looks
And why does that matter? Does race, gender, or age describe how someone plays?
Does someone in a tux or wearing a Rolex matter?
Yes, it does. Do you even play poker? There are stereotypes for a reason. LOL. Why do you think stereotypes exist?
I love your food posts, but why are you doing this? You must not be a poker player.
Just stay out of this thread and any others where everyone disagrees with you -- and for a reason.
Except your position is a complete strawman. Whale did NOT use the ethnicity to describe how someone was playing. He did not stereotype anyone based on race/ethnicity. In fact, for the term "Asian" he had multiple player types. The race/ethnicity was only used descriptive of the person; not their play.
Not once was the ethnicity used to stereotype playing style.
As to the private message, I believe tipping was your trigger in the last Muck TR. It was you who drug that from the past into this discussion and attempted to attack muck. Why did you do that? When it was pointed out, you ignored the questions.
Also it appears Muck initially used the message (again privately) to support a position he posited but you ignored with a mod.
Plus, if you read the message posted, even you in the message said you wanted to post the apology publicly. So one could make the argument that you never intended the message to actually be private and only did so because posting publically was something you could not do.
Basically you started a rant about racism that did not occur here. You were for some reason over sensitive to something. Then you attempted to divert attention back to a past argument with no meaningful basis here (as I actually doubt a $20 tip would have changed the room).
Your tone was unpleasant and unneeded but when you got called out you want to whine.
I will congratulate you. Not on chasing Muck away but upon being the second person to make my personal ignore list. That is not an easy thing to achieve. (I will delay this a short while to allow any rebuttal you might want to post.)
Dear Muckpls,
First of all, thank you for the trip report, normally i am only a reader, i had to request a new password to login 2+2 so i can comment.
My question is about your plo friend , I play a lot plo online, my hourly is not big by any means but enough to live a normal life in western europe.
I am thinking about going to vegas to grind (although not easy with a family), but my worries are about the extra cost (flight, food, accomodation), i would see vegas as
90 % work and only a tiny bit of holiday besides it. I dont know if it is worth it with the extra cost.
My stakes would be 5/5 and i would grind around 7 hours on average / day (a bit a wild guess). I am worried that it is simply not worth it.
Maybe your plo friend can answer or you can reply.
If it not easy for you to answer, no worries, its not a big deal. If you think i need to open a new thread for a question like this, all good.
Kind regards and GL

Hey! I would recommend you start with 1/2 PLO and move up if you are up a couple of buyins. PLO can be pretty thorough and reg infested and also plays very deep. Max buyin for 1/2 is $1000, but after a couple of hours it’s not unusual to see 5-10k stacks. For 5/5 the buyin is 500-2000, and same thing there except you get a MUCH higher pro to rec ratio making it a pretty crazy.
My friend is playing 90% 1/2 PLO, with shots at 5/5 when he’s up a decent amount. Last year he took a couple of bigger shots and ended up winning $55 000 in two weeks at 5/5. This is obviously variance so should not be something you can count on.
Welcome sicarriu5, looking forward to additional reporting!
Thanks again Muck and Whale.
Lazy start to the day for me. Woke up around 7:15, and eventually went down to the casino floor. Lost $300 on Video Poker (DSTP not cooperating this morning).
Figured I could win it back on Buffalo instead. In for $100, out for this after a really good bonus round:

FFS. Muck has no view.
As someone who frequently stays at Aria/Bellagio/Park MGM:
Just don’t. I used to do it during my first couple of trips and they would always hand it back. Last time at Bellagio a couple of years ago the lady explained that some front desk employees do take a tip but it goes against their policy and if they get caught they will be fired.
Out of all the times I’ve asked for a free upgrade, unless completely full, I would say it has worked 10 out of 10 times. Just ask nicely at checkin.

His view of accepting tips is false. I did it 2 weeks ago.
Incorrect. My trigger was when Muck posted a 7/10 review for Yellowtail and then walked it back to a 1/10 (only because the waitress was hot).
Hey Randall if you seriously hate me so much I am at Aria every single day until Sunday. Come down, grab a whisky and unleash your rage. I’ll promise to tip our waitress! [emoji1782]

So you hate me because you don’t agree with my rating of a restaurant 3 years ago. Jesus Christ man you have some serious issues…
