The Summer Wind - A WSOP Trip Report …… and beyond!
Don’t ask me why I chose the title of an old Sinatra song to be the title for this year’s trip report, i have no idea, i
I never felt unsafe inside the casino but the surrounding areas definitely aren't great. I stayed 45 min away at harrahs joliet.
I played in a Circuit event in the Horseshoe Hammond some months ago, and as I wrote in my thread at the time the casino is in an awful area, and the tournament took place in a dreary auditorium that had zero personality. You commented at the time something along the lines of the photos I posted were extremely uninviting.I suppose it doesn't matter once you are at the table and
This is very true! The area around Horseshoe Hammond is a shithole. Horseshoe Hammond itself? A shithole 😀 The tournament area is in The Venue which is the place they have thier stage shows. It feels like a warehouse. The tables suck, the chairs suck. But once the cards are flying its just poker. I played there today (and will again on Sunday) but think this tourney is a one and done. My commute there is only 45 minutes but I hate it as it takes me through some extremely sketchy areas. Wandering around during the one hour dinner break was depressing. This place is degen central. At least in Vegas people appear to be having fun on vacation. Everyone there seemed like a broken degen scratching an itch.
Yep, Hammond definitely off my list of places to visit.
Anyone been to Texas Card House in Austin? Thinking about going for their WSOP circuit stop.

I was at TCH Austin once and the Lodge a couple times 3 years ago. TCH was a smaller cash room and Lodge was then expanding their room to accommodate more tourneys.
Both were solid rooms - in Texas it was certainly strip mall poker. Austin a decent city with some other things to see. Just a couple (thousand) steps better than Hammond.
I’d recommend a trip to Texas for poker, would also be an close-ish flight for you.
Keep an eye on TCH Social (Las Colinas) and/or Dallas too, on PokerAtlas. Not sure if it would be worth your time to make a drive up or not, but they have had a 75/150 mix cash game going semi-regularly. It's going now at 1pm on a Monday. I can try to find out who organizes it if you're ever considering coming up for that. You could probably call them too and they'd either give you the organizers number or pass yours along to him.

TCH Austin moved into a much, much larger location in mid-late 2024, which is why they can host an event list this now.

Might be an idea thanks. There were a couple of players from Dallas playing in the mix game at Bellagio this last trip.
Renewed my ESTA today. Was slightly nervous after all the trips in and out these last couple of years, but it was approved online in about an hour. We’re good for another two years:

Would have put a big spanner in the works if it was rejected lol.
They have a new app now so it’s easier to do it via the app than on the website as you have to scan your passport and take a selfie.

It works the same way with entry to the UK now; you just download an app and scan passport + take a selfie.
(I realize you don't have to worry about this, but just in general)
If you can't beat 'em join 'em!
My first attempt at making a vlog, from the Bahamas trip. It should be noted I wasn't thinking about making a vlog at the time so didn't take enough video content and had to make this mixing the little video I did take and some photos. I guess I just did this as a test really to see if I could do it.
Love it!
Working for me still.
Seems video is not working. Did you take it down, or did YouTube remove it for some unknown reason?
Link works on the app, not the webpage. This is it:
Fixed it.
Weird, it worked fine for me on Chrome.
I thought you did a really great job of capturing both the poker and the resort, and doing so in a very balanced way. The video quality was quite good (plus the property is extremely photogenic and you conveyed that). A very nice look behind the curtain at the life of a poker player. And you did so without the annoying, self-indulgent gimmicks that many vloggers employ to beg, borrow and steal their way to clicks. Bravo! I'd gladly watch more of these if you decide to go down that path.
It worked for me on tap talk via mobile but not in the browser
David, where are you from in the UK? I found it very difficult to place your accent and…having grown up there and lived all over…I’m normally pretty accurate. Guessing it’s morphed as you’ve lived abroad

Don't buy your flights yet, lol, they were raided by the TABC this morning. Hard to imagine they won't open right back up, but who knows. Unknown yet what the issue was. With TABC involved, you'd think it has to do with their liquor license.
TCH too? I read where the Lodge was raided today.
Well done. One of the challenges with a poker vlog is deciding how heavy you want to lean into the strategy vs. the "lifestyle" content.
I can't speak to what's optimal because I don't know the space well enough.
This feels like a pretty good mix.

I can hear twangs from several parts of the country but really can’t guess.Guessing it’s morphed as you’ve lived abroad, as mine has, but did you grow up in d
Originally from Blackpool but also spent time in Liverpool, Manchester and London. My accent is very messed up now though from having lived all over the world. Apart from England I’ve lived in Ireland, Gibraltar, Italy, Curaçao, Costa Rica, Panamá and Colombia.
TSA still not being funded is causing problems with long waits. The longer it goes, the worse it gets, as people pick up part time or temporary work and aren't able to report for TSA duty.
