Poon hill looks pretty wet

feel wrath,

Sounds like you're on the right track, with the new partner and life is (slowly) going in the right direction. Congratulations for that! Best wishes going forward.

rickroll,

Those are some pretty great pictures.

yeah sadly most of the sweeping views of snow capped mountains were too obscured by overcast skies to really capture - poon hill itself, which had amazing views - kinda the closest to an everest type panorama while still being a casual who doesn't need acclimation nor heavy gear was amazing but all those photos are garbo because there were so many people concentrated up there

these are some with the least people and my phone was terrible at really capturing it

as we started the hike in the morning

I'm in my 50s and I'm lucky that I'm still extremely capable physically still. But for how much longer? If I wait another 5 years to get out there for more adventures, I'm drastically limiting how many I can have

Do you do plyo's?

I spent the last year heavily focused on knee function/health, tendon strength and stiffness, and hip flexor strength coupled with plyometrics. Before I do any plyos I spend 45 minutes warming up with bands, backwards treadmill, mobility work, etc.

Being strong is cool and all but being explosively strong is what athleticism is all about. I have been concerned about being able to do the stuff I like to do the way I want to do it as I am aging...I no longer have that concern for the forseeable future

I have had 2 knee surgeries, 1 ankle, and broken 4 bones in my lower body. My knees feel the best they have in a while from this routine.

My most recent injury was apparently a hip flexor, so trying to get into a routine of doing more stretches targeting my problem areas (*waves hands around entire body*).

My hatred and complete avoidance of gym exercise / weights / strengthening / etc. is definitely finally catching up to me as I get the olds, as my only goal now when I get out to play hockey / pickleball / etc. is to have fun and get thru the game without injuring myself.

My exact poker strat :(

I joined a crossfit gym in Nov and have been going 2-4 times a week since. Feel more fit than ever, and am not very worried about athletic injuries.

I'm doing more cardio since, I don't know, high school sports probably? And lots of plyo work with box jumps, and athletic movements like burpees, KB swings, snatches, power cleans to round out bench/squat/DL work. I'm enjoying it.

We're building to 1 rep max later this year, going for 1000 lbs club. Let's go!

Not really.

I used to do a plyo session once a week when I was playing rugby. I’ve had the same number of lower leg surgeries as you and my left knee isn’t perfect, so I’m not sure what it would recover from but I’ll do some research and see what there is I could do without damaging it.

I do still do power cleans once every few weeks but that’s about it from an explosiveness pov.

All the best for the challenges you’re facing, fw

I say definitely go on the trip, any way you can swing it, the sooner the better.

Thanks and yep. I’m booked for Vejas in June and I think we’ve settled on the Dolomites in Sept. The GF has seen a lot of Nepal already so would prefer something different

Yesterday, went to the funeral for our former bar-league player. Quite a few in attendance to pay respects.

Never been to a Catholic funeral. It's kind of a workout: up and down, up and down. There's also a lot of statement (from the priest) and response (from the crowd). Seemed like a lot of formal ceremonies.

Not being a religious person, I don't get all that, but I think it was a nice service for those who are. He was well-remembered.

Did they offer communion? Last funeral I went to they did. Makes a super long show even longer. I wouldn't have even been there had I not made the mistake of answering an unknown number call where I was requested to be a pall bearer.

I was in Vegas for work for about 48 hours. Squeezed in about 4-5 hours of play between 2/5 and 5/10. My god are the games just absolutely soul sucking. $10 bets get 30-60 second tanks. I could’ve probably played another 2-3 hours timewise on one of the days but it was just an unfun experience that I didn’t bother. For context I went to bed around 830 on one of the nights instead of continuing my session.

I am not surprised-and still the **** regs or "Aspberger backpack pros"as Limon calls them is wondering why most of the fish/whales is long gone to private games.

Its truly sad what the public Vegas games have become.

Agreed- these were my first non-private sessions in about a year when I was last in Vegas. However, last year, I played 4 private games and just only hit the public games late night / early am on weekends. This year, I had much more limited time. The two games I know play at times that did not work with my schedule.

I had initially planned to stay 1 extra day and play a fun private game but with weather on the east coast, I didn’t want to risk getting my flight delayed so I left early.

Story behind being a pallbearer at a funeral you otherwise wouldn't have even attended?

They did. It went surprisingly quickly--maybe 10-15 minutes. The guy said you had to be a Catholic in good standing to get communion, but if you wanted a blessing, come up with your arms crossed to you don't get and free bread and wine (I guess). Didn't notice anyone taking that option, but didn't pay attention either.

Then went to try a BBQ place I'd heard good things about, as I don't get to Longmont much. Amazingly mediocre, disappointing after what I'd heard.

Funny similar story to mark's: a guy that used to deal for our league happened to sit next to me. Before the service, Ryan told the story that he showed up to this church two Tuesdays earlier.

Got in, he didn't recognize anyone. Then, the service was all Spanish. Bruce was Hispanic, so Ryan didn't think much of that.

After a while, Ryan realized it wasn't the right day. (Casket closed at both, so he didn't see it wasn't the right person). Of course, by that time, he's committed. As he put it, "well, I made my bed, I guess I'll lay in it."

It was a friend of my grandmother's. I never really had any interaction with any of her family. When she got to where she couldn't drive I would always pick her up and take her home for our family functions, which she was always invited to. She was my favorite of all my gma's friends. Very funny lady. This was her at gma's 104th birthday party. She's the one on the left. She always had a great dirty joke to tell and she always brought her titty scarf to try to shock the olds. RIP Bev!

one of the last great assumptions (i hope at least, i'm sure i'll discover more) i held onto deep into adulthood was churches just allowed things like weddings, christenings, & funerals gratis

always kind of figured they had endowments that people contributed to and they operated off that interest - a member dies or gets engaged and they hear a "we got you bro" and not, no you approach them and they name a price

then, i think about a decade ago or so i heard a podcast that talked about the economics of opening a new church and how it's treated like any other startup with real "we need to find some more customers or we'll go under" kind of metrics

few years back i spent a few months living in the ozarks, was shocked to learn just how much of the property in the town i lived in was owned by various churches - sometimes it was done for good - ie a 24/hour unmanned gym that was definitely losing money but they propped up because they blasted christian rock - and they kept a few elderly busy by letting them freely lease some store fronts to operate their hobby businesses which don't really make any money but keep them occupied

but man, it seemed like quite a racket

I was going to ask what a titty scarf was but then I scrolled down lol

She seems hilarious.
