thanks for all the kind posts about my pup. i appreciate it.
I am ready to hang up the gubmint job now...but I have to work 4 more years FML.
I came back into coaching for a 3-year stint after what should have been my last year coaching was highly unsatisfying. It's fun, but I am really not built for it anymore. I *want* to be. But I am not.
I guess it depends on what outcome one's looking for. A lot of people are excited.
Your department will be cut under project 2025.
Just kidding.
I hope….

MBN to only have 4 more years to retirement.
yay politics in the chat thread! What's Trump gonna do with recreational marijuana? Leaving it to the states would be good for me (bad for my clients though).
You don't need a million dollars to do nothin. Take a look at my cousin. He's broke, don't do sh*t!
Gonna reduce my work hours in 2025. Really struggling with whether I'm even reducing them enough. Or whether I should just completely pull the plug and simply adapt / make it work. Kinda playing it year by year right now.

I have seniority so (I think) I am good.
I was trying to figure out how to make it happen in 2 but it isn't in the cards.
Don't fall victim to the "just one more year" cycle. Pretty soon, you'll be too old to do stuff in retirement because you worked so long.
2.5 more years for me. Then to see what, if anything, I do post military.
Most definitely becoming more aware of that. Still relatively young so not overly concerned, but something to keep an eye on...

Reminder to self. I can retire earlier if things get really stupid.
I'm over 30 years of service now, and though I owe 1.5 more years for my PhD, 1) that's waiverable and 2) the last year I plan to serve is just because I (currently) really like my job and want to do the full assignment.
get a cushy security guard job with a long key chain and a sick taser?
Bonus that he will be expected to tuck in his shirt.

Could retire now if we moved to Mississippi and sold the kids. Really torn about this
I put $2K on Trump when the bookies were offering even money - figured it was +EV and here we are. Still kind of bummed though.
I took trump 2016 at 11 to 1 before he was even the Republican nominee and on the day of the election my book called me up to offer a buyout and I just hung up the phone, I knew it was a lock at that moment. Same reason I just thought he had way better than 10% chance and it was +EV. I don't sports bet even money though so I didn't bet this year, it was pretty much even money odds for the entire election. I think Trump's real odds in the election were way better than even money, but I don't like locking up money for months on a bet slip for even money.
Make sure to spend time now thinking about what you'll do then do fill your days.
It's great for the first 4-5 weeks or so to have nothing to do, sleep in, laze, etc. But, pretty quickly, you need to get going.
So, have an idea going in. Even if it's just a concept of a plan.
I'm really bad at lazing, so yeah, I totally get this. TBH when I say "if anything" about what to do post military retirement, I meant as in a formal job. I'll definitely keep writing, working or not, and I have a project list as long as my arm.
But mostly I'm trying to decide if I'll do a few more years of professoring at a civilian college, if I'll finally open that little brewery I've always dreamed about, or if I'll just putter.
Why sell when you can sharecrop?
